For me ios is one of the greatest things to happen in music gear. I sold racks of old gear. Now I have 2 grooveboxes and NI maschine + reason. I use my iPad as a sound source and sample either into audioshare or into the computer live. I only ever use one app or one app and a few fx at any one time. This way I avoid most of the mucking about faced with trying to do it all on the iPad. I just see/use the iPad as a sound module.
I don't know how old most of you are but this is how it all started with midi then digital! I feel that the iOS revolution is the beginning of the new way of doing music! The amount of potential music making power within my IPad is mind boggling compared to my MacBook! Is it better, no, but give it sometime and I predict that it will slowly takeover from laptops or will at least be a powerful compliment to music making! With things like Auria Pro that future is much closer than most may believe!
Do you mean you didnt end up using audiobus for it and just loaded egoist in as an iaa? Which device and OS? I have recorded tons of egoist in cubasis as an IAA without any problem. Even using it to midi control other synths at the same time while recording audio from it for up to an hour.
odd- I left the PC because of all the figity issues and crackles and crashes-on ios everything works and when it doesn't it usually does if you just restart- but I don't try and make it glitch with cmplex AB and midi set-ups- Keep it simple
I'm in favor.
out of curiosity which grooveboxes do you have and how do you like them? i've been lookin at the new electribe and the novation circuit, they've piqued my interest
Cubasis didn't show up in Audiobus so I connected Egoist to Cubasis by selecting it as an instrument for a track using IAA. Egoist would play through Cubasis for a couple of minutes and then the audio stopped working. I've got an Air 2 running the latest version of iOS 9.
Hmmm I have an air1 and a mini retina with 8.4.
It must be iOS 9. Here's a screenshot from my mini retina with the latest version of iOS. As you can see most of my apps are missing (including Cubasis).
That's not good and partly why I never rush into any update.. The other part is - I'm always half way thru a track.
mkell, Egoist syncs well from Cubasis' midi clock. Turn it on in Cubasis and set receive in egoist.. if ios 9 allows that !
+1 > I use my ipad as an expander with cubase on desktop. My iPad is connected to a valve preamp to add "warm" and analog feeling and i'm really happy with it.
Animoog sound better...And iMini sound like a real Minimoog
That's odd. Are you sure your apps are updated?
Thats a cool idea... Might have to do the same.
I have a SP404OG and an Electribe EMX1. I swapped the Electribe2 for the EMX1.
The Electribe2 is a great groove box but sounded too tame and I felt it lacked character, plus the 4 bar limit and pattern switch gap really put me off in the end. If they update it to have 8 bars I will possibly get another. The circuit looks like great fun..
If your interested here's a jam on youtube I did with iPad and Electribe2 (put it in a bitly link so the video doesn't spam the forum..)

I can totally see where the frustration comes from. There are many folks who are creating great music only using the ipad. But if you're proficient with a computer DAW there's always the nagging thought that the headaches you're experiencing with the ipad wouldn't exist if you were using your computer DAW.
I can relate to this frustration because I'm currently on a quest to complete a song only using the ipad. I've completed a bunch of tunes where I've used the ipad to sketch a beginning that gets fleshed out in Ableton Live. Finishing in Ableton would be much more efficient, but for some reason I feel compelled to stick with this quest. Maybe I like the challenge. Or maybe I'm too lazy to walk down to the basement where my computer DAW is. ;-)
Soon we are gonna hear about the new Surface Pro 4 from Microsoft. Then maybe I'll decide where to go next. Continue with IOS, or go back to Windows? I was really, really hoping that Apple would of done something special with the Pro. But descions have to be made. Continue splashing out hard earned cash for iPad app synth/DAWs, ect, that do not work together, or go back to Cubase Artist, Ableton Live, which has flipping load of great Vst, free or paid for?
If Microsoft price the Surface Pro 4 right, Apple are screwed.......
Yeah the iPad pro just got served

Where have I heard that before?
I think I might just make the move to the Surface Book instead.
(Will probably still pick up a second hand Air 2)
@studs1966 and @TGiG I've got my eye on the Surface Pro 4 too
The beauty of the Surface Pro 4 would not IMO be in music apps like the ipad. Microsoft is obviously light years behind ios on that front. The potential of the Surface Pro 4 would lie in the ability to use major PC DAWs using a very well specced touch screen laptop.
This guy seems to have had pretty good success using nearly all major PC DAWs on a Surface Pro 3.

That Surface Book looks pretty good.
I begin to like Microsoft again and Apple loose a bit magic every year!
wait until u have used music software with a pen, apple will gets its glow back immediately
its nice to see microsoft doing something, but no thx
nothing happening in user land Zzzzzz
see the horror show, nothing is made for touch - they think touch is an add on &_&
actually music making on iOS got really good lately
i am having so much fun with audiobus and mimix and all the other nicknacks made for touch
can't beat that
thats something my mac can't do nor the surface, its iOS only
That might be true and i agree in some things but sadly 95% of my tools are not available for iOS. If i could have touch versions of all this tools i would be in love really.... but that can´t happen with an iPad Pro and iOS
Also it´s not only Microsoft fault... it´s up to developers as well.
Maybe i change my mind in a few years again.... today with a crippled pro device and laggy and buggy software, no usb, no file management and prices far beyond evil i want more for it.
All my iPad apps are wasted money while i will using my other tools for years and then i could resell them if i get rid of it.
huh?
that "crippled pro device" hasn't arrived yet, nor has its software,
I´ll get one next year with 3d touch, filesystem will be in the cloud or on my own server, bye bye laptop
apple could upload logic touch next month to the app store, bang bang baby, you are all dead ^^ who knows?
100% agree. I have a mini2, and things like Sector, Patterning and Samplr make it fun to be alive. None are "laggy and buggy", or, at least, no more so than Logic w/ plug-ins.
No, indeed.
Again logic touch would not solve my iOS trouble The cloud?..... never. Like to stream 100GB.... no way for me.
Laptop all the way baby ;D
Apps like that are going to be AWESOME on the large screen of the Pro. It will make a difference. Still like people have said before I'm waiting for 3D Touch. I have it on my iPhone and it really is a great feature.
why wouldn't it? use one main daw, keep all the files in that app, done?
I mean in the end thats what u want, no more missing files and no more searching for files? and no more how do get my samples in for the nth time ^^
