There’s this one called “App Store”, it’s rather good, but tends to ask for money.

Ha. Talk about "In App Purchases". Jeez.

Maybe with AU we will get inter-app purchases?

  • Nanostudio. Still.

iSem and LoopyHD are the runners up.

  • ISem is great and I think the guy who did the hardware Animoog controller with built in iPad, should do the same for iSem.

  • AudioShare never leaves my devices.

  • Only because it's the first app I got for my then-new iPhone 5, I have to pick Garageband (plus I'm a sucker for a cool UI).

BUT what I like/want to do with GB involves other instrumentation it doesn't have, so MusicStudio & ThumbJam are permanent residents, as well. But then none of this works without Audiobus, so it's tricky to make a choice of one part of such a fertile ecosystem.

    Where's the Synthmaster Love?

The heir apparent to Alchemy, it features a similar soundpack IAP model and even two X/Y pads to replace the magic 8 square. And the patches sound sooooooo loverly ...

I'm still waiting for the iPhone version to come out! :-)

  • As for myself, favorite apps are like potato chips--it's impossible to have just one! :-)

  • I couldn't name a favourite - there are 10 - 20 apps that I use in my tracks that are all pretty essential.

  • Wish I could play keyboards, then I am sure my answer would be different but Tonestack is my Fav.

  • Cubasis in Audiobus! I NEver start without those two just in case I might want to save something I am farting around with.

    Alchemy!

    Not a bad shout.

  • There's so many good apps out there. There's so many apps with huge potential but just aren't "there" yet. Then, there's apps that had promise and just ended up royally sucking.

I mainly use the iPad for creating lil loops and phrases that I export and use in "real" DAW projects. I'm trying to incorporate it more. Any suggestions?

  • Korg Gadget because it looks great, sounds incredible, and it allows you to make music without having to deal with strange issues and cumbersome workarounds.

  • Fave app for drums- Figure
    Fave app for synth- Alchemy
Fave app for signal processing- Crystalline
Fave app for DAW- Auria/Beatmaker2 tie
    Fave utility app- Audioshare/Audiobus tie

  • loving tap delay recently. wanted to get the vst version but it's like $150. great saturated sound out of it tho, and i've made some drones/bases of songs by taking a piece of audio i like, sampling it through the delay, and turning up the feedback alot so it distorts and forms its own weird rhythm in a ~3second loop.

  • Then samplr and egoist come behind... With sector/patterning/fugue machine/chordpolypad/thumbjam in the next peloton

I like Tap Delay as well. I believe you can do everything it does already by working on settings/timing etc with kit you have, but like the latest Klev, this thing just gets there in certain sectors more quicker. So it's not a what it does but how value proposition, which in terms of riding any moment's piece of inspiration is (for me) worth plenty.

the combination of look, feel, and sound get me to keep opening up Animoog. It just feels nice overall. Even though if I had to pick just one app to keep it would probably be gadget, I have a very soft spot for one of my first purchases, animoog.

course others like samplr, thor, patterning, impaktor, figure, tonestack and xynthesizr get a lot of use and appreciation.

great sound + UI polish = my many thank yous

(if I have to tap at something multiple times or put my nose to my screen to read labels I'm out.)

Oh....and if Gadget had full screen gadgets I would have no hesitation in mentioning Gadget alone as my very favorite. I will wait and expect this to come.

Hmmm, the Klev and Tap are fighting for my Saturday night app purchase now.

I love Animoog. But the one thing I've been annoyed with since I bought the iPad version is that the in-app purchases from the iPhone version don't transfer to the iPad. I've been hesitant to buy the in-app purchases again for the iPad, hoping that they would do something about it.

Thor is another favorite of mine. It's nice to sit on the couch or go anywhere with my iPad and make some new patches and use them in Reason at another time.

I agree that Gadget's instruments would be better if they were displayed in full screen. I'm on an iPad Mini 2 and it's difficult to see what's what. Korg really should improve the touch sensitivity on this app as well.

There are many great music apps, and I have several favorites. Looking past the various new and recreated synths, orchestras, world instruments, the incredible variety of percussion, and the truly insane effects apps: there still sits Alchemy like a trusted friend. It is capable of almost every music production task, it runs smooth, and has fantastic sounds. Alchemy, regardless of its questionable future, is still my all time favorite!

most of the tracks i haven't recorded, but they're there. here's some strings in fm4 sent through tap delay, slowly building

i rly love it and am rly chafed that it's 150 damn dollars to get as a vst

edit: hmm now that i think about it i can use the ipad version as an effect in ableton using musicIO...

Thanks for the link - good drone! I like the slowly building nature, not sure if any of my current delays do this.

well, i looped the melody, the slow build is because the delay was on the whole time but i started turning up the feedback during the last minute or slow, which of course compounds the melody itself and the tape hiss around it, making it into a wonderful fucked up swirl.

  • Taking advantage of this posts' ressurrection, my all time favorite is Drambo. Yes, i'm a time traveller :sunglasses:

  • Audioshare
