  • It sounds great with lots of synths bu alchemy is choppy no matter the latency and Synthmaster is buggy too with I but sounds great when working.

Wow, really good. I'm a big Zappa fan - bet Frank would have loved apps like this.

I hear Franks influence in your SOTMC contributions @monzo. big fan of your posts.

Thank you very much! I'm probably Lumpy Gravy era!

Looking into the TC data app, tempting...

Started with Freak Out for me! Based on your SOTM posts, sounds like you have plenty of essential sound generators and I would love to hear how you drive them from TCData.

Tempted - can you make the same sounds as those in TC-11? There are some lovely arps and filter sweeps for example - can you achieve these, glides and stuff using TC DATA with other synth apps?

    The answer is 'NO'! 100%

You can not modulate synth like you modulate the internal parameters of TC-11.

So, there is a limitation for midi data transmission and target assignment.

  • Buy TC-11, if you like the way of TC-11.

I can't. I bought it when it first came out, but because of bugs and crashes got a refund (probably the only one I've ever asked for), and Apple now won't let me repurchase. I was hoping to replicate it with TC DATA controlling another synth.

I notice when using iFretless to play other synths you lose the note glide and string bend, so thought this might be the case with TC DATA

    Bummer.

It will occured (lose data), 100% sure. I actually keep the TC-11 and refund the TC-data in past!

I know what you said. Oh, Btw, My country iTune store allowed me to repurchase the refunded one.

  • Did u try the-player?

  • The internal synth of TC-11 is very nice!

  • Just got nave and Isem to play together nicely! Just had an idea for using this on my iPad mini and midi over Bluetooth ! It will allow me to control data on one and make changes to the apps being controlled on the other, wicked!

Yeah, I want to go in and tweak though.

I've read you can repurchase via desktop, but I'm nervous it still wouldn't let me download into my pad.

  • @monzo I suggest viewing the user guide at http://www.bitshapesoftware.com/instruments/tc-data/

TC-Data is a different beast compared to TC-11 in that TC-Data can only control what the controlled app will allow via things like midi learn. But many of the iOS synths out there allow quite a bit with regards to mappings. There are over 300 controls and the possibilities are limitless IMHO. The LFO module has 74 waveforms with numerous touch mappings possible. You can have many many LFOs setup, each one mapped to its own midi CC on a specific channel. Each LFO instantiation allows touch control of frequency, center, and scale of the LFO. Just playing with the LFO modules on droning soundscapes and such is a joy. $9.99 is a bargain IMHO. I have TC-11 and love it but use TC-Data far more. Sometimes I look at TC-11 patches for inspiration with TC-Data and synths like MitoSynth, Thor, Sunrizer, Animoog, Z3Ta+, etc.

I'm a bit puzzled by MIDI - how are the supplied presets? Would they provide a reasonable amount of control without lots of custom setting up?

You know! To truly tell who a person is!

You need to look two sides!

    I am the bad guy!

  • ahh, I was wondering if repurchases after refunds were possible. I now wonder if it is dependant on the app or a universal repurchase lock out for all refunds.

as a total midi novice myself i find it a bit hit or miss with the presets being able to work well with any given patch but over time think there are enough to select and enough parameters that are not too arcane that I will get my 12 canuck bucks worth.

  • edited November 2015

Canuck bucks? I live right on the border in NY but have been a Habs fan since I was five.

  • Hmmm. Problem is @Tritonman, I'd have to buy the MIDI-controlled robot arm too!

  • I do have a 14 piece midi /Dfx lighting set up that might be interesting on some winters night.

Really annoying as I want to buy it! It's had loads of fixes and updates since I had it so it'd work fine now.
Still tempted by Data but worried it'd miss out in a lot of the performance capabilities you get with 11

  • edited November 2015

hmm. Right, well you can have multiple accounts on the same ipad so if you really wanted to you could make another account. 8). (Not 100% sure that will work but hey...)

  • @monzo Could you buy TC-11 from the iTunes account of a family member such as your wife? as Apple allows family sharing of apps. otherwise you could try to have someone gift you the app.

Thanks for the suggestion, not sure I'll have to check it out in the morning (bit late here now). Not sure how long the sale is in for, hope it lasts a few days.

  • What is the setup time required for setting up each app with TV-data parameters ?
I am just arsed to go and spend mapping and then remapping each midi param for a synth differently. Are there any predefined or shareable synth templates for tc-data that perhaps make this easier ? Wonder if audiobus preset sharing could be used here to share tcd presets with setup with various synth

Huh... TC-Data actually works quite well for recording sequences in gadget once you crank the grid size on gadget up to 64. Very cool

I know it is very good performance tool.

Can it command the Start/Stop on Korg Gadget? I wonder, because without this function, it is useless midi tool for my Gadget recording.

    No offense!

@monzo , you can buy it again, but not directly, you have to send it to yourself as a gift.

You do that by clicking on the rectangle with arrow (right top corner) and send it to your email address registered to your account and then redeem it.

Thanks for the info. It seems I might be able to buy it via iTunes on the desktop - but a bit nervous I'll still be blocked from downloading it via the iPad. I'll probably give it a go later, I guess if it doesn't work they'll have to refund the purchase.
