    lol! yes i know.it was a joke.

If you're in need of an addition to your Christmas list I can suggest this volume.
  • @Matt_Fletcher_2000 It's all personal toast of course, but I feel as though Homeland's the first show to really get and showcase how this kind of music (often the music I have in my head) can actually work and flow and succeed.

EDIT: And then I turned away from this screen for a moment and someone nameless had written this Jung quote in my large black daybook across tomorrow's date:

In all chaos there is a cosmos, in all disorder a secret order.”

    Perfect.

Was that a kind of 'sorry you lost 15GB of your music, mate... look on the bright side' kind of message?

I'd like to think so, but Mrs. Goodyear can be particularly elliptical in her communications, so who knows....off to watch Homeland etc.
  • OK, just for the ever demanding @johnnygoodyear i've spent the last couple of hours adding said 'drowned cinematic piano' to the track. I'm nothing if not obliging :)

Actually I think it was a good call from Johnny I hope.

So - as above (2 instances of Twin 2) but now with added Lyra factory grand piano soaked in AudioReverb.

I also did a bit of ProQing and ProCing in parts and stuck some limiter on the master.

Sounds great. How do you check your mixes? What headphones do you use?

Here is my test, @JohnnyGoodYear, you always want to listen one of mine, here it is. Just made it on 2 hours work.

    !

  • Chaos Theory is beautiful outside of chaos.

  • @Kaikoo Very peaceful and quite beautiful also Captain. I would say if you made that in just two hours you should limit yourself to that from now on :) ....all native to AP sounds? Like all of it, but particularly the second half/end...

  • Thank you, Johnny, getting busy from now on, work my Pizza out soon....

  • A little off topic, but here is a link to a track I did with Reaper+Slate Digital plugins. Check out the bassplayer (punk/surf rock fans only!)

  • More punk rock. Just put this on here for anyone who likes punk stuff.
My son is playing the guitar. His mate (Josh) is the best bass player/singer I know.

My Oct SOTMC was made using multiple instances of Lyra playing imported midi files. I couldn't answer @BvsMV at the time. Sorry for that.

Hahaha! No worries. That's really cool and now I'm tempted for Auria Pro!oll see if Santa brings any gift cards.

the trick to adding and deleting notes in Auria Pro is go use the multi select icon and use the draw pencil icon. You must have the multi select icon flashing when moving notes around. Don't for get to turn it off when inserting notes. You can also select groups of notes by double tap and drag creating a greyed area, Then tap select highlighted and again tap the multi select icon so its flashing, now grab the notes and move them to the new location and use the snap value to make it land on the beat or what ever snap you set it to. Cheers and I am working on some really great videos for my channel on the subject.

I posted a quick instrumental track last night

  • @Kaikoo
Very nice, some lovely chords toward the end.

Look forward to these. Especially anything and everything that helps work in the piano roll go more smoothly etc.

    Thanks @pichi

Right now I use Sony MDR V8s and I also compare on standard iPhone buds and some B&O in ears. When I get a chance i walk round the house trying on various hi-fis and in the car - but with this track it was just the 3 pairs of headphones. Generally the Sonys tell me how the bass is going to sound but they artificially mute and dampen the very high end... whereas the standard iphone buds are all high end and so they tell me what nasty high end spikes might be lurking and need EQing. The B&O in ears are somewhere in the middle. This all works fairly well as a way of headphone mixing I think.

  • @Kaikoo Nice&inspiring!

Cheers. It does work well. Your mixes are great. I'm going to have to pick up some buds to check my mixes too...

Cheers @Matt_Fletcher_2000 Interesting track, has something of the boards of Canada about it.

As a 'Gadge-teer' yourself, how do you think a Gadget user could 'migrate' over to AP ? I'm thinking about piano roll editing / entry and drums / percussion primarily.

I'm already mostly sold but looking for the best ways to best integrate. Would be very interested in what @Matt_Fletcher_2000 has to say about the State of His Nation on this one...

  • @Igneous1 , @Ral, thank you all for listening, wishing you all forum members happy and fun with Auria.

  • @Igneous1 @JohnnyGoodyear - not sure I'm really an expert. But...

So far I've been almost completely avoiding gadget and been enjoying the new freedom AP (and MTS) gives me to use various others synths or apps that have been gathering dust.

However one thing I did do was start a track in gadget (chords, melody, baseline x 2) and then export each track as midi and imported them into MTS. The same would be possible into AP I believe.

Since Gadget is so much easier (still im
afraid) to write midi in and jam midi over a loop into etc this might be a smart way to write your basic core parts. But then you get to import the midi into AP and replace the Gadget instrument parts with your Animoogs, Thors and Twin2s etc and keep adding stuff in Auria.

However, often I suspect I'd be happy with the sound from Gadget - so you could just export the audio alternatively.

In a way AP is liberating. But in a way it makes things harder than Gadget because there are so many different ways of doing things and you theoretically have the choice of all the synths and sounds on your iPad. That can be curse as well as a gift when it comes to getting things done.

Midi entering and editing in Auria is very possible, especially if you read @richardyot 's excellent tips thread. But it's got a bit of a way to go to be as fluid as Gadget TBH. As with anything it's bound to get easier the more I do it.

I've been enjoying adding drum and sound kits to the Auria sampler by the way. Commercial loop masters SFZs actually. Ive had to do a find and replace on the paths in the .SFZ text files but then it works. So I have a couple of GB of drum and bass and electronica kits now on board in Auria which is pretty nice. Especially when you stick the fab filters onto them. The alternative (which has also worked very well) is syncing with elastic drums or patterning or whatever and just recording drum patterns and live tweaking in live. Then choking the audio up to get the best parts. Auria is absolutely great at manipulating audio.

So in summary, the sky's the limit really. It's just a bit more work probably.

  • @Matt_Fletcher_2000 Thanks Boss. I hear you on 'I can now use whatever I like, damn, now I can use whatever I like...' conundrum...haven't been back to Gadget since installing AP, but can imagine doing so happily once I feel comfortable exporting/importing the midi etc.

  • Here's an example of using AP with a TinPan Rhythm track pasted, me on guitar, and me adding another bass track. After listening on headphones, I realized the bass still needs EQ (way too much low end) but it gives you an idea.

  • Forgot to add that the guitar had some light Saturn effects. The added bass was played through Lyra.

Nice man, For a couple eating at steak house kind of music! Yes, can add Pluto next time! o:)

I am playing POLY with midi now, it is awesome for recording Animoog to AP.

  • Thanks @Kaikoo. Definitely steak house music...but you gotta start somewhere!

Midi options are crazy with AP! Working on getting my e-drums set up, and I'm close.
