Professional use merely implies that someone would be using the tool as part of their profession. I personally am an enthusiastic amateur and do not feel belittled by that title. I make no money from music. I do not have a good income anymore, most of my apps and my iPad were paid by a tax refund from when I was well enough to have a good job. What I can't afford, I don't get, simple.
If something I deem to be too expensive for the use I would get, I just don't care about it, after all, I do have enough apps to keep me going for the rest of my music making journey in life
Attention! An update has just arrived and it killed the "open in" import.LMC instantly crashes when I try to open
an audiofile from audioshare which worked before this update. So right now itˋs useless for me because I
want to work with it when Iˋm AWAY from my studio (mac/logic)!Hope it gets fixed soon (again).
Very good points @Fruitbat1919 .
I have a very similar experience and approach @Fruitbat1919 .
If something is not working as expected, I assume you've reported it to the support team? I'm sure they can help get to the bottom of any issues with the app.
The last update brought, in the IAP section, what seems to be the first app subscription strategy in the whole iOS audio apps ecossystem. If it's just a clever way of a potential customer "demoing" the product for a few days for a small fee, it's a welcome addition - I am surely going to buy a few days to test the app potential.
On the other hand, if it's the beginning of a transition from the app selling business model
to the app subscription business model, it's really bad news, specially if other developers decide to follow the same strategy, and a deal breaker for me (ditched Adobe and Avid altogether because of it, and don't think I'm the only one, and it seems this strategy hurt Avid badly).
By the way, it's not working yet, it seems: the prices for the limited usage won't show up in the IAP page, and the buying process results in an endless spining wheel (the iOS version of the beachball of death).
Yes - I don't "buy" (rent) into any subscription-based software that prevents me from continuing to use the product. I don't mean to say that I don't purchase update subscriptions ^^ , I do, but never any that I am obliged to purchase or it would mean I no longer have access to the software that I have already paid a license for. (Yes, we never own software, just pay for a license to use).
So, if that's a trend that this would start then I am 200% against it. Totally.
It is not a business model I support at all, and any vendors who move to it and don't offer another means of e.g. outright license purchase with in-perpetuity use lose my business.
^^ e.g. I didn't bother to update a Waves subscription recently, but the Waves product in view didn't stop working. I will likely pay a reasonable sum shortly for another desktop DAW update subscription for continued updates, but if I don't, I'll still be able to use it until the bits petrify in my SSD.
The flip-side of this - in the app store model of course - is that there's currently no way to actually provide an update subscription for those app developers that labor hard and produce updates to an existing otherwise already excellent app and don't see any new revenue as a result. If there was a way to rectify that, it would help developers - esp. the one-person shops - tremendously.
This.
There is still the option to purchase the full functionality outright without any need for renewal. This is similar to the arguments I see condemning a company for offering a desktop plugin subscription model while they clearly offer the plugins with perpetual license too so it seems like the choice is there so one can take whichever path works for their workflow.
I have relayed any reports of the pricing not showing, too. Thanks for mentioning that.
As long as you guys at IK Multimedia don't go full Avid - it wouldn't even be clever, given the results it brought to Avid and, in a lesser degree, to Adobe - we're good. I'm trying to redownload the app to see if the prices here and report here.
P.S.: reinstalling didn't solve anything.
It should now be working for everybody. Please give it another go (without reinstalling). Thanks!
Any news on the temp files bug?
Yeah I get the prices now. Thanks
I don't have information on that issue, but if you reply to your support ticket about it Support may have more information or be able to circle back with Development to get more information. Thanks.
After playing around with the demo a bit it seems like you can get very nice results from it but for someone like me who likes to have control over what every part of my signal chain is doing its not going to cut it but I can see it being valuable to the right person. Although I'm not sure what's to stop people from just recording the output onto their desktops and just resplicing the file so it doesn't have the noise burst in the limitation. You could probably do that in about 10 minutes, effectively getting the functionality of the app for free.
OT: For those interested, the Mac/PC version is available now too http://www.ikmultimedia.com/news/news.php?id=657
Well, I invest the needed money to have it for a few days and can say it was worth it: it's an excellent tool, specially of you need fast results e.g.: with a customer anxious to know how his/her songs will sound after it was "ready for release": the presets were useful to show a little fireworks, specially with those "push" knobs, and that is good for business. I still prefer using Fab Filter for a thorough post-production, but the ability of showing quick hi-quality results indeed came in handy.
