  • Minor update of Ruismaker on the way... the plugin now responds to MIDI Program Change messages.

Also, since Apple's last iOS updates there have been some minor changes in the AU implementation guidelines, some invisible (memory management, retain cycles), some visible: plugins GUIs would no longer refresh automatically when changing presets, depending on how the GUI was implemented. All these changes are now implemented in Ruismaker.

I expect approval to take the usual 24-48 hours.

Great news, thanks for the note, the app, the update(s)!

  • @Kaikoo2 very impressed how you're managing all that...
Did you try Midi Designer 2 ?
Do you have meta controllers into Sonic Logic ?
    Is it "free" latency ???

I have 3 iPads + midi controllers, but now I need "super midi control panels" that could echo's some of the parameters assigned on my midi controllers...Also some of controls are too slow on physical controllers...

I also try to avoid glitches, and keep some panels quickly accessible is faster...Anyway...
Do you have videos online or something we can hear yet ??? I really love to see how it sounds... :)

Hi Gent - I can confirm Kaikoo2 has left the forum. He sent me a personal note before leaving. I won't go into detail why as its quite political.

So we can cycle through saved user kits with program messages? Sound Great

Only the factory kits. Unfortunately AU plugins have no access to user kits; it's a technical limitation of the AUv3 standard (user presets are managed by the hosts, the plugin doesn't even know about their existence).

So, for MIDI access to user kits, you'll have to do a feature request to the host developers, until Apple update their standard.

I wish I could wander across the world tonight and walk into his noodle shop and tell him to take a step back. But I can't. Maybe time will tell....

  • @supadom problem with midiflow is it is almost stable...But sometimes it just crash, and you don't have a clue it does...
Maybe it's my setup, I'm using an ICA4+ also, and midi does crash sometimes...
But globally, even if the solution seems seducing, I would recommend not to use any midi routing apps for a live performance...
But if you have not too much apps running, not any additionnal hardware (sound card mostly) could be very powerfull indeed.

@dchild thanks for letting us know, and sad for @Kaikoo2 , very prolific and helpful guy...Hope he'll change is mind someday whatever the problem was.

Well. Didn't he create the kaikoo2 account after he came back from leaving ? Won't be surprised if we see a Kaikoo3 in a. Few months or a year.

I also don't want to use intermediary apps because I don't want another step added (turning on etc). And yes, of course there's one more app to go wrong.

  • @brambos
Sorry I fail to add advanced midi parameters with my beatstep...Can you help ?

I have the step sequencer playing a pattern to Ruismaker (one note at the time) on midi channel 8. Fine.
Into AUM it's written Ruismaker @ Ch8, that really confuse me...It's just FYI, as you can set the channel you want, right ???
Anyway, I assign from channel 1 to 8, CC 22 to 29, to select each instrument, to be able to select individually and use 8 knobs instead of 64 (so cool :) ) that I have assigned + the global ones.
But every time I use the controller to select a sound type, the sound goes to "none"...

    What am I missing ???

    Short answer:
The problem is that Ruismaker doesn't like sweeping through instruments.

    Long answer:
Due to its internal architecture, any Ruismaker sound can only be assigned to one channel at a time (i.e. you can't have a the same snare on more than one channel). Whenever you're trying to assign a instrument that is already assigned to another channel, it "steals" it away from that channel, and sets the other channel to "none".

As a result, if you're sweeping through all instruments, you'll come across sounds that are assigned to other channels as well - setting those to none. So, it's best to directly select the instrument you need, rather than "sweeping" there with a midi controller.

    Does that answer your question?

  • @brambos thanks :)
And partly yes, but if I also assign pads from the beatstep to play let's say the kick, it does not select it, it just plays it. It's less elegant to have a kick drum during the loop, but I thought it might be a workaround, but no...
Also with this theory, the pattern I'm playing with the beatstep would have change instrument too fast to do anything, so it's a silly workaround anyway...

I would like to avoid the use of the screen of the iPad...Because something else is running of top screen actually...

Will there be a fix for this ?

  • Looking forward to playing it.

  • Remind me how you map Ruismaker to BM3 pads via AB3? I'm sure I had a working at some point...

Its much simpler and less straining on the cpu to sample from ruismaker to bm3 pads. But i think it was Eb minor pentatonic scale that is all black keys and ruismaker was triggered by black keys only if i remember right

Thanks but I should have clarified that I'm after the sequencer, not the sounds. I've loaded my own samples onto the pads and want to drive them with the Ruismaker sequencer.

Okay. Well the problem is that bm3 pads respond to midi cc and ruismaker sends midi notes. Not sure if some ab3 midi effect thing lets you convert notes to cc, that or running the midi through computer where you turn notes to cc, and then run it back to ipad is the only ways i would see it being possible.

  • I'm experiencing a problem with Rusimaker when I choose Export to WAV it crashes the app. I'm on Ipad Pro (small model, not the big one) and latest version of iOS. Anyone any ideas, I've tried deleting the app and re-installing and have tried hard reboot also. Otherwise fantastic app.
