I actually already have TF-7
But AU integration is that important. I suppose if I were only playing live then these standalone synths might be worthwhile.
This is probably where the currently disconnect is, live vs production. Probably the bulk of the innovation on iPad to date has been focused more on live and live-ish workflows
Properly implemented AU begins to address DAW-ish workflows. For live playing I just prefer to use Motif...no iPad.
Whoa I'll have to check that out thanks...
great, I almost assumed I was stating the obvious...
but AU wasn't designed when TF-7 was released, let alone developed - iirc
I get your point in DAW integration, yet not all recording must follow this scheme
the iConnectAudio4+ (as an early bird in this domain) allows easy integration into the classic DAW context on PC/Mac...
well, at least if instant recall of EVERYTHING isn't the main point
cheers, Tom
SynthBook is surprisingly good. I imagine this one could be, as well, but 10 presets and limited functionality...I'm likely to lose interest.
Free source for quick and dirty sampling/freezing into DAW, Audioshare etc, I spoze. Like the one in synth book, that morph orb control surface is cool. (This one also does programmable automation...)
Oddly enough, the programming of the orb automations is saved when the app closes...
I have too many other synths and sample players to spend time with this. Deleted. Appreciate the free offer though.
So the only way to unlock is to connect a yamaha keyboard? The few presets I heard sound great, too baD.
Yes 'Version 2' of the MX-Line which is not yet available in the shops and no firmware update available for the current MX line...
What's cheap about giving away a free app?
Hardly seems worth the hate
No I'm telling you that if you buy a keyboard there's this great free app that expands its capabilities.
I don't mind a strong message being sent to Yamaha about this. Crippleware of this nature distorts trust in the App Store. Hardware locked presets is one thing, Disabling state-saving crosses the line.
“I’ll let you have a lick of my popsicle, and I’ll give a whole box of them, if you buy one of my refrigerators.” Really, Yamaha?
It’s called advertising, but you get to play with an app instead of just passively watching a demo. Yamaha’s a business, not a charity.
Yep. I was just thinking this.
I'm thinking that, in maybe, MTS there's a quick set up to:
Or something similar with longer decay sounds into Bilboa.
Might be ok for adding some FM spice into Gadget. Although no doubt FM4 audiobused into BlocsWave and then samples out to Gadget is probably just as quick or quicker.
This would be my favorite FM synth if it was functional. I hope Yamaha make an fm VST one day.
It's sad how big synth companies have amazing code they don't utilize, like the physical modelling stuff Yamaha had. Or Clavia with the Nord Modular...
The 'pressure' to add IAP as alternative way to unlock the app seems to be quite high...
(My support mail has been forwarded to Japan HQ and I'm apparently not alone asking for this).
So use the support form and ask for it...

Thanks. Just sent them a request.
How about the state-saving do you think this an unlocking issue or more of a bug?
I think it's intentional so it's will be next to impossible to use it in a meaningful way without unlocking...
The more I play around with it the more it grows in me, 4 different 'modes' (the noisy DX100, TX81z is spot on, V50 and 'clean') add the effects and no FM synth on iOS comes even close....
Hopefully the unlocked version allows the user to select witch parameters end up on the 'ball'
Done
No problem with advertising, but this is deceptionware. They are a better company than this and I'm sure they'll modify it enough to bring some decency back.
Deception, how? On iTunes, it says you have to connect to the hardware. The app being free, I think is clue #2.
I don't think it's deceptive, but why not go the line 6 route and make it free to unlock with their hardware or pay a fee to unlock to use with other hardware? Especially since the Yamaha app sounds good and the line 6 app, well, I tried it out because I got the interface for $30 on eBay. Nice interface for other guitar apps...
I don't care that much though honestly , I have more synths than I need. But since Yamaha is obviously capable of making good sounding apps why not? Im sure it would sell. They're not hurting though, they'll do whatever they want.
IAP $800 - with a free keyboard.....
I'm referring to the state saving being disabled. Audio Units have state saving, that's one of the features. To say it supports Audio Unit extension means you support the spec. That as I mentioned before is where the line was crossed.
I get that you don't agree. Fine.
I'll give this some time. I mean it took a while for Yamaha to respond to adding AudioBus and IAA to the AN2015 synth in 'SynthBook'.
The FM Engine in this 'FM Essentials' is really nice with the 'emulation' of DX100, TX81Z, V50 and the 'clean' new original engine. Add to that the effects and no FM synth on the iPad comes even close.
Yamaha should make a dedicated 'syth-app' with some of their synth-engines as AU-X's and add say a $15-$20 IAP per synthesis engine and it would sell like hotcakes...
Yes I'm sure they'll make it right, and not only that... I'm in the market for a new keyboard/controller so I'll probably end up with the new MX anyway.
But they should completely remove "Audio Extension" from the free version if it's gonna be butchered like that.
