I do have a thing for hardware synths, and this one is pretty sharp.
Wow. Total wow. Discreet electronics? 12 voices??
why does it say "phat12" on it?
Ah, I see this is from about half a year ago. Things have changed since then. That's good.
Original idea was to recreate the Juno 106 they say.
4 FX engines each with like 30 fx that can run simultaneously or synced to the synth. And built in wi-fi with most all parameters controllable "through typical tablet apps" CV gate control via pedal input, "CV can be used as a mod source, or note value, Gate to drive the sequencer/arpeggiator"
but if I'm not mistaken the midi out is only usb, I hope they end up with midi din as well, there's allot of people who'll want to use this with other hardware.
I was actually just reading that it's RTP-Midi on an article out a few minutes ago on SonicState - though not sure where the info is referenced from: http://www.sonicstate.com/news/2016/07/30/behringer-deepmind-12-first-look/
Looks like onboard wifi with an Editor for all Os'es. Usb Hub (1) + Midi In/Out/Through & CV/Pedal. Here's a pic of the Mod Matrix: https://www.amazona.de/preview-interview-behringer-deepmind-12-analogsynthesizer/7/# - Wondering if the parameters wil be controllable via external instruments & apps, or just their Editor?
I was hoping this thing was going to be in the price range of the korg minilogue lol at me
Seems they're going to manufacture these a mile or so from where I live. Might have to blag my way in to do some QT.
Lots of good info there. Mod matrix is seriously impressive though I don't see MIDI CC as a source. Here's an English version via Google Translate https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=de&tl=en&u=https://www.amazona.de/preview-interview-behringer-deepmind-12-analogsynthesizer/3/
I'm not that impressed with the sound in the vid and don't particularly care for a boxful of on-board effects. To each his own.
Full MIDI din setup, including Thru.
What do you mean by USB hub?
Some behind the scenes, about the Phat12
Erm, DeepMind12
Mmmm desktop....
If Behringer did not exist, one or more other manufacturers would fill their place. It's not a "noble" business model but then they've also made a lot of decent musical equipment far more affordable to musicians who don't have as much disposable cash.
999USD

It does sound a lot of synth for that price, particularly with analogue signal paths. Start saving now for Christmas!
Wow, they didn't even bother to change the name much. UA from Roland/Edirol becomes UCA from Behinger. The "C" is for Copy:)
I would say I'm worried about quality because of the past experiences I've had with their hardware breaking down quickly, but I've had similar experiences with a lot of the cheaper end of hardware to be honest.
$999.99
save for something better, except the sheer number of 12 voices it hasn't much to offer...
afaik 2nd oscillator is severely limited.
The folks who design it have no experience in synths, the master himself isn't exactly a talented sound designer either ...
The only thing they CAN do, is make a difference in quantity terms, hence the number of voices - because they HAVE the production facilities - but that's about it imho ...
Some folks will shurely brag about their dozen analog voices... and bath them in reverb.
You may pick your favorite (say) PPG synth on iPad, make a poly pad, bath in reverb, too... and NOONE will be able to tell the difference.
You not only just saved 1 grand, but the PPG can do a ton of stuff more than this hobby release of a rich bloke
Synth world isn't limited to Jump or The Final Countdown...
cheers, Tom
From Uli's statement, I would say "Feature Creep 12" would be a good name. I'm pretty sure I'll get one of these.
Maybe so, probably spot on, but hey sometimes I have to shoot back to the eighties and swim in reverb
They're going to sell a metric ton of these at $999. Or the synth sales equivalent of a metric ton. Can't lie, I'm definitely intrigued but think I'll wait a year to see how the build holds up.
hey, reverb is cool - but if I send my Casio HD600 through the proper one, you might mess the synth with an Oberheim
cheers, Tom
Yeah, I'm no expert on mid-to-upper end hardware, but from what I was reading on some other forums, $999.99 was probably the lower end of what people expected something with these features to cost.
The problem is that this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone familiar with Behringer gear - they're famous (infamous) for offering versions of things other people do at prices that nobody else can match. But I'm a bit surprised there's so much excitement for this thing just given who makes it. Not that I'm knocking Behringer as an overall company - they serve a nice purpose. But when I'm thinking about paying a premium for an extremely complicated piece of machinery that I really don't want to break down, Behringer is not high on the list of companies to which I would prefer to assign that task.
Yeah, I've owned a lot of cheap synths and most of them had problems within a year or so of buying (dodgy screens, loose keys, faulty sliders and knobs). On the other hand, the expensive synths I owned all stood up well for many years (only issues were not finishing off the operating systems - looking at you Waldorf!).
Not saying all cheap gear is crap, but there is a reason why you still see much of the more expensive gear lasting longer - it's built with higher quality materials and more is spent on quality control.
Obviously there are exceptions
