@theconnactic Wow! Well that was a bit different wasn't it mate. The spooky main melody is fun,but I like the middle bit where you just rock out with those cool "climbs" the best.
The mix is spot on to my ears.I do love how your stuff varies mate,as I'm sure if you wanted to you could just pick a style and make a hundred awesome tracks like that. You creative bastard!!!
@JohnnyGoodyear @Igneous1 @MonzoPro Thanks very much guys,I'm glad you liked it...haha! Igneous,I'm quite chuffed that you had no nits! although I must say I never mind it when you do.
Hi mate, thanks for your feedback. Regarding the piano, personally I tend to always lean towards a really "verby" moody, soft grand piano, but in this case Dave played his "upright" live in his studio and I thought it sounded great and rolled with it.
Thanks for your compliment about my recorded vocal sound however..I've still got loads to learn!
My set up is a shure PGA58 mic going through my presonus ibox 1 into the iPad mini2.I have been singing in front of a hanging duvet, but I now have a fancy reflection shield! (same one Captain America uses!! )
I record directly into Auria, where I then use pro Q,then I smack Klevgrands "Korvpressor" on and squeeze a little, then after that I usually use convolution reverb.
I have lots of other fx apps, pro C,proverb, etc but I've whittled it down to the above really.
I hope that helps mate.
Leo
Thank you for the kind words!
Thank you very much indeed!
As soon as I have time to listen the songs with proper attention, I'll post feedback for all of them!
Don't go crazy yet! There are some of us deep in the well of loneliness and lack of inspiration etc but who are (somewhat) still hopeful that a tune will turn up....
I am stuck in a holiday cottage in the Kent countryside, with my guitars, interface, and microphones in storage back in London. All I have for SOTMC this month is my iPad. I'm writing the song in GarageBand, not sure how I'll do the vocals. @LostBoy85 could get away with singing directly into the iPad mic, but I don't think my voice is up to that task...
a ) stuck in a holiday cottage in the Kent countryside doesn't sound so bad to some of us
b ) I think it's a great opportunity to produce that piece which really uses vocal samples in a creative/fulfilling way...
Or maybe see if I can really get my head around Phonem....
...which could then turn into a Tutorial Of The Month for the rest of us. Win win.
Different Drummer recorded (collab with Flo26) into Logic:
Is supposed to have a laid back saxophone as when we played this live at South Next...but I used a chill flute on this.
sorry didn't comment last month, real life taking over. new tune. i literally cannot tolerate my voice any higher in the mix than this. brings me out in hives. seem to be channeling my inner david sylvian here. thanks for listening and comments, will do my duty v soon.
This article, somewhat about Nick Cave and written by Amanda Palmer, may not be for everyone, but some of it is or should be if you think at all about writing songs...

Love the start and the sound, love electronics that are slightly untethered. Yes, of course David S., nothing wrong with that. Leaned alot listening to the drum in and outs here. The first three minutes feel like a journal entry (in a good way). Overall heartfelt, perhaps less of a narrative for others to hear, but more as if something overheard. Love your harmonizing (as ever). Not wholly convinced about the vocal sample in the background, feels dated somehow. The end, to these old-fashioned ears, is, erm, abrupt
Thanks as ever Johnny. It's one that I actually ended up feeling q positive about. I'm usually sick of 'em by the time I post. Yes, the ending. Well I thought either fade out or stop and just plumped for the latter, no artistic reason, just spur of the moment. I always find September a melancholy month (which includes my birthday) and so wanted a tune that kind of went with that. Trying to make my arrangements sound more sparse too, and hope to make the style of the tunes more consistent. I just wish I knew what I was bloody doing! On the bright side I wrote this all in Modstep then mixed in Auria Pro and it went really well, better than writing it all in AP I found. Will get to reviewing now!
@LostBoy85 Will comment on your gawgus tune later. I'm in the process of getting a mic (not very punk i know but.....) as my Elnett Satin hairspray canister is empty, dented & quite frankly too feminine for my screaming duties. I notice you've grabbed one of those reflector thingies. Does it work? Is it worth it please? Lots of street banter & noisy neighbours I'd like to make disappear....(I bet they say the same about moi) .........from my recordings that is.
@LostBoy85 very moving and beautiful piece. I'm not surprised I would like this I've become a fan and just gotta say great work man.
Everyone should check out "Recording drums what difference does the room make ". In you tube. It is a great video that shows that everything sounds different when you move or move things or rooms. Blue punk its def worth it . I recommend it
Like that, vocal definitely a beaut! The Dummer Man sample took me back to the days of big beat, then it got a lovely trance pad/arp infusion that carried it through v strongly. Not an expert but the mid range sounded a tiny bit cluttered (but I suspect that is more due to Soundcloud playback), but the bass really needed to be louder. A great tune nonetheless. Have enjoyed all your tunes here a lot.
Thank you for your kind views. When I read views & positive comments like yours, it encourages me to make more music.
Pleasure. Really liked that arp in this one in particular.
@technemedia hey dude,I like the lyrics to this piece and your delivery was good, but the vocal needs some/more EQ imho, also there were a few heavy "p's" in places which can be taken care of while recording with a pop filter,or in post production with careful editing.
A nice chilled vibe though and I liked the way you ended it with the phone.
I like the industrial/tribal/acid/hardcore/funk thing that happened there. It sounds great, a bit off what I can constructively offer a comment on though. It got me nodding most when the beat cut through the mix more, but I realise I'm probably missing the point there. Great stuff
Thanks for the feedback! It's live so it does tend to drift off and get mushy in places. At some point I'll make loops of the best bits of the stuff I've done and use those as the base for more user-friendly fare. Probably.
Very impressive. Dave seems a handy fella to have around. Loved the line about that unpleasant bloke flying a plane and having a house in Spain. No good will come of that, the big show off. Your vocal is fantastic and you should be rightly proud of that tune. Great use of reverb for me. It gives the song a perfect sense of space. Brilliant.
Moody and lovely. Love the organ pad that balances the piano fantastically. The vocal is a great performance and the level is just right. Love the bit when the harmony first comes in, perfectly timed. Totally agree about spending £ on apps each month that I hardly use. Oh for a bit of will power... Great tune, well done both of you
Interesting bit of a change there Dimitri. I always look forward to your guitar/electro fusion tunes. I know you've done something clever with chord progressions there, however I have no musical knowledge and so I can only marvel at your skill rather than try and understand it. Great little menacing/spooky number. Brilliant.
@crouchie
Well you're certainly channeling your 'inner Dave' with this one ! I really like it, but (as usual) I have some observations:
The voice is too dry, in my view and too low in the mix. The drums are a tad too frenetic relative to the tempo of the voice and the instrumentation and the drum breaks a tad long (more of an opinion with this one) and I'm not too wild about the outro section, I felt it dragged a tad.
All in all though, a great track !
