Issue with iFretless Guitar update

edited July 2013 in General App Discussion

I updated iFretless Guitar with the new Wah feature, but when I activate it, I get no sound. Anyone else getting the same? I'm surprised nobody has yet mentioned this update.

  • Works for me. Check the tone controls, etc.

  • Odd, just went back in and its working now! Dont know what went wrong the first time, but great effect to have!

  • I wish the little wah box was half the length. Would make it much easier to slide the thumb and get a better wah effect.

  • Thanks for the midi n wah.

Any chance of a setting for scales and chords being colour coded or highlighted?

  • The Wah effect is activated by the little pedal icon, right?

  • Yea, it seems to be very "quiet" and only comes through strong on two-ish guitars

  • Most Wah effects tend to have a sweet spot in their frequency response where the "wah" is most apparent. If the signal being processed contains less of those frequencies compared to others, then the effect will be less pronounced. Having said that, I have no trouble getting a decent "wah" with all the iFretless guitars except the steel string, which I don't think contains enough lower mid freqencies to really do the effect justice, and is a little on the quiet side anyway.

This app running through Amplitube in AB is absolutely amazing!

Hmm, has anybody noticed that the low strings on the first "line signal guitar" (Clean Bridge Pickup) patch were out of tune before and now they are fixed?

@commonstookie We don't have any plans for additional scale colourings but with the coarse tuning adjustment you can get any diatonic scale mapped to the white notes.

For chords, in major thirds tuning, the fingerings are so simple that I don't think you would even want them colour coded. I play the app exclusively in that tuning - it doesn't take too long to learn and It's worth the effort. See this tutorial, if you haven't already:

@JMSexton We added the "EQ gain" slider to compensate for quietness caused by EQ and Wah effects on certain sounds. The Wah effect, in my opinion, really only works on sounds that have a strong mid-range. You can get it to work with the clean sounds by putting on overdrive and boosting mids in the EQ. For the rest of the sounds, especially the steel string, I personally don't use it.

We designed that Wah effect for the upcoming iFretless Sax app and based the sound on the plunger effect in this video: It was only after I fell in love with the sound of it in our test versions of iFretless Sax that we decided to put it into the guitar app.

As @PaulB mentioned, the volume post-effects really depends on the effects settings so you'll want to adjust the gain to get the loudest volume without clipping.

  • @Sirhans,thank you for the vid

    ...and ifretless base update.

Looking forward to the new app.

  • @Sirhans Is there any chance of the Wah effect turning up in iFretless Bass at some point?

  • @PaulB,the one in Ampkit isn't that bad.

@Sirhans,slides (pitch bends),get recorded as separate notes as midi events.

Have tried recording without slides and then switching to the Cubasis 'wheel' to do the bends, but not getting desired results.

    Any Chane of a fix?

    Sorry for being a pain.

  • How do I wiggle the wah in Ampkit while playing notes in iFretless Bass?

  • Set wiggle mode to auto.

You still have control over the degree of speed/depth and type of wah.

  • Ok. I suspected it might have to be autowah.

  • Or once you've recorded ifretless (without effects),do a cubasis to cubasis with ampkit in the middle and wiggle your wah freestyle.

  • Should add....

Use the tilt function to wah.

  • That'd be more useful.

  • @PaulB We debated about adding the wah to iFretless bass. It would be useful on the fretless bass sound; probably not useful for most others. We will add it in the next update though.

@commonstookie This is the first time I am hearing about the pitch bend problem when recording midi. I've not tried it myself before. Are you recording with cubasis? Do you know of if other midi recording apps suffer from the same problem?

  • Hi, Sirhans, I'm enjoying both iFretless Bass and Guitar apps, any news on the Sax?

  • @Sirhans,hello.
    Yes I'm using Cubasis....
Just tried pitch bend with Nave and it works fine.

  • edited August 2013

In Cubasis, what's your pitch bend set to in the MIDI setup panel? I always set MIDI pitch bend to 12 semitones in both iFretless and the destination app, in this case Cubasis. That way it seems to work fine for me. I do this for all fretless controllers such as Geo, Cantor, etc.

  • Thanks Paul.
Just tried your suggestion. I'm still getting string slides in ifretless turned into individual notes in Cubasis.

Are you recording your bends as midi tracks or audio tracks?

  • edited August 2013

MIDI. Just tested it with the Cubasis piano instrument. Have you set the MIDI pitch bend slider in iFretless to 12 semitones as well?

  • Yes..everything set as instructed.
I can get the pitch bend working in ifretless if I use the Cubasis wheel...that has always worked fine and is my work around.
Just doesn't work from within ifretless and performing a slide on the string.

Not a big problem as such, but I do like using Ifretless UI and if possible, would prefer to record the midi events as I hear them..bends an all.

Works perfectly on my iPad 2, latest iOS and app versions. You in Audiobus or standalone?

  • Tried both ways

    So if you press record...

play a note in ifretless and then slide your finger along the 'string'...(in ifretless)

    1)you hear the note bend?

2)cubasis records that as a bend?

3)plays it back as a bend?

  • Yes to all 3.

We ARE both talking about iFretless Bass, right? :)

  • Ok.
Yes,ifretless base with latest everything's running.

Will delete/install/scratch head and start again
