Maybe to give this whole thing a twist. Are there already people overhere that switched to other things than Apple hardware and software (Windows/ Linux/ Android) because they got tired of Apple or it's just becoming too expensive. I always had to work on both platforms. But nowdays my main computer is a PC with Win 10. Also a lot of friends with small companies I know switch to Windows, main reason for them is just costs and the software they use is same. Adobe Suite, 3D software, Office, etc.
Unfortunately I really can't stand windows. Hackintosh is the way to go for me.
Only an affordable and very powerful mini or macbook could get me to buy another mac. Nothing else really makes sense to me.
iMac maybe, but I prefer to have my own separate screen, my own kind of expandable storage etc.
Mac Pro is just way too expensive for what it is. And so are most of their products already...
I think Apple has data about how many people use a specific product, and how much they use it.
I guess this has to be a very very niche market?...
being 100% honest I have never heard of this product before now other than the Apple iOS app called "airport utility" or something like that which I always thought it was meant to be used literally in relation to airports and planes.
I sure there are better options (checking to product latest release it's really outdated) and seeing what supposed to do it's completely non essential now for almost everyone.
AirPort has spdif out! Wireless
Three computers I'd to get over the next few years would be an ipad pro and stylus, might go for the 12" for auria, 15" mbp, looking at the speed of the solid state drives of the new ones has got me excite, but I'm going to wait for cannonlake, which looks like two more years. Also the surface studio, although I prefer osx over windows, having a larger touchscreen to work on is something I've been pondering for a while.
I have a couple Airport Express which I use for streaming music. Don't use them for routing, since I have a VPN router setup that is too complex for them to handle. Hope Apple have a plan for Airplay connection to speakers moving forward.
I'll I can say about "this isn't the place for politics!" comments is the topic was Apple's business structure/decisions and Apple is one the largest companies in the world, certainly the United States. Through it's impact on the economy, lobbying and influence on the nations general collective (I mean how many Americans don't own an Apple device?) Apple has a definite influence on American culture, including the government.
The latest version of the Airport is on the tail end of its life, that's fair; as is the lack of its commercial success can be determined as the people "talking to Apple". The OP had Airport as the example of Apple's recent practices and it evolved from there. As the forum of one of the most popular iOS music creation apps that's exclusive to Apple's devices I think the conversation has merit.
The routers provided by ISPs are the low quality, cheaply built with very limited features. People are much better off buying their own routers with free upgradeable firmware that provides a wealth of features and performance enhancements.
Well, the BT Smart Hub (6) is actually very well specified, highly powered and well made. I've got a BT Home Hub 4r here, and although it isn't 802.11ac (only n, 600) it is very satisfactory (replacing the previous BT Home Hub 3 that came with Infinity, and which wasn't quite as reliable, and wasn't dual band (which is where the pair of Airports came in useful at that time)).
If all you want is access points, you can get extenders (but be aware that a wifi extender will actually halve the speed of the subsequent network, as it is duplexing (but not if it is operating the link to the router wifi at one freq (eg 2.4GHz) and spreading another wifi range to the devices at another freq (eg 5GHz))). Do a search for Aukey wifi repeater (either AC720 or AC1200) - I don't have one of those, but nearly did buy one recently. In reading the reviews I think I wouldn't have regretted it at all, they look pretty good, and very low cost.
One has to try to separate "Apple doesn't listen to their customers" from "Apple doesn't listen to me." Much conversation here appears to stem from the latter but is presented as the former. Where is the evidence that Apple doesn't listen to the majority of their customers? Apple has a game plan that must predict what people will want, and they've obviously been successful at it. They can't please everyone. Every move they make, there's a negative reaction from people who continue to buy their products. There's much hypocrisy from those who claim to benefit from what Apple offers, who ride on the backs of cheap foreign labor, who exploit the developers who provide dirt-cheap tools on Apple devices, yet also want to get on their soapboxes to portray Apple as an evil empire. So if Apple's such a thoughtless, greedy, uninspiring company, stop buying from them. Enough already with the threats and dire predictions.
The problem is apple doesn't listen to its old users anymore.
Time capsule is auto backup...
Without cloud
I guess this is very political.
People can be led to vote based on fear and prejudice, and to express their hostilities, even against their own best interests, and that hasn't changed. I read the statement as a comparison to times and situations, because history repeats itself, and we hope to learn from that. No one is forced to accept the comparison, or to wear the shoe if they don't believe it fits. "Many of us" implies knowledge of an electorate, and is not merely about an individual's views.
If this thread was a court case, the whole jury would have been discounted from selection by now for expressing prejudicial views
Are there any 3rd party Network Attached Storage (NAS) solutions that work with the apple stuff? That will do time machine and ios backups?
I have both a WD My Cloud and a Seagate Personal Cloud, both can be time machine targets for macs, but not ios backups (which is as far as I'm aware also true for the Time Capsules). One thing, though, the WD My Cloud is a far slower and vastly more irritating product than the slicker and more usable Seagate Personal Cloud.
3rd party solutions are 3rd party solutions
How many companies do you want to scream and shout with?
Apple, Adobe, oracle, you get the idea ...
No more airport one airplay target less
What's left as airplay target, Apple TV?
The alternatives are no alternatives for me.
Windows and Linux make me burp.
Let's not talk about money spend on software licenses ...
Someone just flagged this thread as a 'political discussion'.
good morning. this again, oh no ^^
How was loop?
Depends where you live I guess. Been using Airports for years and they worked fine. When we moved to Luxembourg we couldn't use it with the modem/router they gave us. But it was just as easy to set up and had all the features of the Airport Extreme I needed, so wasn't a big issue at all.
@Sebastian
I really would like to know what other airplay targets are open.
I only know of airport, airport express and appletv.
So goodbye wifi spdif and goodbye airplay and goodbye time capsule.
Audio on tv speakers with Siri and more cloud stuff, aha. &_&
And the let's kill the headphone jack thing...
Arrrgh
Be aware that Kodi (for example, on Android TV, or Amazon Fire TV, or on a Raspberry Pi) can't do full airplay, even though it appears to - it won't work for video sending, just audio, from iOS9 onward. http://kodi.wiki/view/AirPlay
I'm using AirPlay via a WAP to connect to my NAS drive, which then sends music back into my receiver. I use this a lot. So is Apple now going to wreck that, as well, in the name of false progress?
Unknown
Looks like the guys from airplay are on Apple TV now

It's really sad to see such a great company slowly committing economic suicide.
the thing with apple is happiness used to drip down the line
When the computer geeks and the creatives were happy everybody else was happy.
Now the focus is on to keep an absurd number of iPhone Users happy.
This is very dangerous.
Agreed.
Happy, or flappy?
Am I the only one here to be a bit disconcerted when I look at the app store front page and top charts and see reams and reams of nothing but games?
The next big hit will be good old uncle Mario...
On phone and tv
