Mostly stupid games, too. Time wasting, brightly coloured digital baubles.
Jesus, I wish Apple would WAKE UP and see that in addition to selling shit by the shovel load, they could also exapsnd music and music making.
Over time, I've populated my Vita with a stack load of great games at low prices in the Sony sales. They play great and are leaps and bounds better than 99% of the trash on the iOS store.
Yet I cannot ever see mobile gaming recovering from the kicking that iOS has given it. They make a fortune selling trash to the average joe who is quite happy to spend money on trash for a quick fix on their phones in between social media time and taking inanely dire selfies.

Yeah. Maybe it's an age thing, but I don't think there was an equivalent in my youth. Sure, people were always getting conned into the Next Great Thing. But there were also diamonds aming the trash.
Nowadays, ISTM that the majority of a generation have wilfully bought into playing games that're either mind-numbingly tedious or excessively violent, and when they're not doing that are obsessively checking their Facetube page to see if other numpties have noticed whatever boring aspect of mundane life they've posted about. Including, as you said, the inevitable scene spoiling selfie.
Most troubling is how such people seem to equate social media with knowledge and truth. During my brief attempt to publicise a project via Twitter I aquired a few 'followers' and was drawn into an attempted discussion with what turned out to be a vicious troll. The bloke seemed to think that the bigger the number of followers a person had (and bearing in mind that figure can be artificially enhanced) the more valid their viewpoint must be. Having factual information was considered secondary.
Looks like Huxley was right, we're amusing ourselves to death
What you have said reminds me of the attitude I see so often regarding a things intrinsic qualities being equatable to the fact something is making lots of money. People really seem to believe that we must not decry anything that is financially successful, or that something used by millions must have admirable qualities, or be intrinsically good.
Brings us back to the idea that Apple, while a business, can do no wrong if it making wads of cash. I personally think we should hold higher goals in society than bowing down to the worship of quantity and profit. We should see our tech companies not only reach higher technological goals, but also serve the best that mankind can be.
Absolutely. You will have people say no doubt that iOS music production by anyone not drawing income from it are hobbyist & " doing something for entertainment, just like with games". I feel nothing could be further from the truth.
Music is art, and commercial or not, it is so powerful that many feel (myself included) that their purpose in life is to play & create music. Not because we can or want to, because we need to.
That to me is a bit more powerful than the highest score on 'Motercycle Demon Zombie Race'...

Couldn't agree more, Mr Fruitbat. Yes anyone in business needs to make a profit, and there's nothing wrong with Apple doing that in spades, or for that matter including products for the Sad Generation. But given that Apple have made such phenomenol amounts of money - after what tax they bother to pay - the failure to innovate and show a at least ittle more altruism is inexcusable.
Omg, I think it's time for my steroid gum now.
Gee, did you notice you have to press "I refuse the challenge" to get rid of whatever.

Indeed. Apple could be actively encouraging IOS musician on a global basis. Instead, the literally give away an app as good as Garage Band, and yet fail to produce the hardware that could really take advantage of that and all the other wonderful music apps.
Imagine an iPad Pro with all the trimmings, specced as standard with 500gb SSD, 8gb RAM, SSD card slot, Apple Midi keyboard, etc, etc. All sold for around £500-£600. If they really wanted this, I have no doubt it could be done, and they'd still make truckloads of cash. But no, all we get is less for more, with a subservient to maximum profit.
the hardware is capable, it's iOS that is so half assed.
That's why I refuse to buy new hardware.
My first music computer was an iBook,
The iPad Pro devices eat that thing for breakfast.
Developers always said the App Store was a problem because of no paid updates. But I don't think that is what is happening.
People buy stuff because YYY made it. And you remember oh hell YYY rocks the house and is fine quality and you get it.
So please @Sebastian release ab3 and give us an ice cubicle in hell
