@syrupcore good question
@mireko_2 -one can only hope.... the rytm is a great sampling drum machine as it is
@kobamoto Asked one of the devs on Twitter. No support for keyboard shortcuts at launch. Here's the reply:
I'll stick with hopeful. Also asked about the extent of external CC control but didn't hear back.
I'm wondering how the workflow will be compared to a desktop daw or iOS device. It seems like a lot of adjusting settings to create some simple beats.
Edit: I watched 4 mpc demo videos with a lot of bla, bla, bla about the software. Any videos demonstrating how to build a song from scratch?
I feel the main thing being overlooked is when there's a software update to the sequencer, it won't make the hardware ins/outs obsolete, or an update to the editor software, it won't make the sequencer software incapable of normal operations, etc...
Yes exactly. My previous mpc's sat on my desk for years and every time I sat down to use them they worked as expected. Never had to worry about an update or compatibility or anything. I only got lured away from them by easier sample editing and file management that new software had (Reason REX and Ableton)
Extra-strange considering the Akai Advance keyboard has decent VST browsing via the Big Tick Zen system.
I bet they will do it if you remind them, that was a freakin great idea!
Sold Push 2 today. Sad to see it go but anxiously waiting for MPC Live
really!! I think they would make excellent companions
Yeah but can't afford to keep both... also I need one box that does it all.
This year Akai hit it out of the park.
I'm hoping so, if they hit 80% stability it will be worth it's weight in gold even if you don't use it with a computer.
Well that's mostly how I plan to use it
Just the MPC, a guitar and the ipad as a sampling source (synth oscillators, fx, spotify beats, etc)
Although from what I remember the MPC has a nice library and they said it's improved in 2.0 also... they have a revamped browser with better search. YAY!
yeah the browser update will be great, this 30 year old workflow has always only needed the smallest of tweaks to return huge benefits. I will be using it in much the same way as you.
Love Jakobs honesty/ openness

actually the other stuff outside of the mpc is a nice discussion, I'm enjoying the other 2 guys comments as well
Nicee!
I have not decided if I want to sell mine yet. The past few months, I have got a nice workflow down. I do not know if I would sell the software either. The MPC live is exactly what I have been waiting on for a couple of years though. I do not want to use a computer any more (not including iPAd). I work 9 hours a day on a laptop for work so it's nice not to have to look at a computer screen for most of my waking hours.
I defintiely can not afford both but @kobamoto makes a good point, the combination sounds declious! Perhaps we should all rob a bank and split the money?
That's the Akai I know
as long as it's not my bank
the thing I really like about push 2 and the mpc is that even though they do the same thing they feel nothing like overlap because each has some unique features and because the workflows are are different and can feed into each other nicely...... I guess that's why native instruments went and created the jam to go along with maschine, unfortunately the jam is no push and the maschine is no mpc
Me too. I felt similarly with iMPC Pro. I redownloaded it last night to see if I can get down with the pattern/track/program/song workflow before I get too excited about the LIVE.
don't know if that's a good idea lol, the mpc live is def not a retronyms deal.
but if they did take the mixer per sequence idea from the impc I'd faint... I still think people don't get how dope that is even after I explain it, it's like there isn't a reference in other apps for it so I end up calling it snapshot feature or something...
but other than that thank goodness akai let dan, pete, and jeff do this instead of cough..cough... anybody else
lmao deal. The workflows do go together so well. I still need only 1 so I can focus 100 % of my effort.
Speaking of NI, I have not heard much from them lately. Perhaps they are being really tight lipped until NAMM actually starts. I would love a surprise standalone maschine type controller from them this year but I doubt it would happen
I don't even think they attend namm anymore, but that would be a great surprise if it happened, I'm hoping roland come with a surprise and I'm interested in what elektron is teasing
Yeah, I get that it's not the same (doesn't even have MIDI out iirc) but the basic programs->tracks->sequences->song MPC paradigm should apply. I had trouble groking that last time.
I actually remember being frustrated by the mixer per sequence.
Is there a way to change the level for a track across all sequences?
they have the technology. I don't know what they are doing to have squandered this opportunity they've had all of this time.
only by duplicating that sequence and leaving the levels where they are I guess
@kobamoto thanks. I'd prefer if there was an overall mixer for tracks and then each sequence offered the opportunity to offset the mixer from the overall value. Like automation in a linear DAW I guess. Though I guess in MPClandia, SEQ1/TRK1 could be a totally different program than SEQ2/TRK1. See, maybe I'm too stuck in other paradigms...
everything has it's place, as exhibited by that track you posted.
speaking of, they just started working on updating it again, might wanna suggest this to them and they are looking for testers too
man you made me load it up again, when you haven't been doing the mpc thing on iOS for a bit and then come back to it it's kind of nice to think this is possible on an ipad mini
on second thought I just love the mixer that way
