Actually the MPC Live ($1199) is $200 more than Machine Studio ($999). Last year Maschine Studio was even on sale for a while for ($799). N.I. will probably put it on sale again to compete with the MPC Live or do the Machine/Komplete Bundle thing.
@ syrup core honestly I'd think someone like yourself could make dope shit using whatever, I'll be keen to see what you think of the mpc live
Cool! I just found out that PSSL has a 17% off special running, the MPC Live can be purchased for apprx. $995 and the MPC X for apprx. $1825!.

The MPC Touch is smaller and lighter than the MPC Live. Tack on a MS Surface Pro than you would essentially have a nice portable setup which is also capable of hosting your essential plugins such as Omnisphere, Nexus, Waves, etc.
NIce idea, but then your powering the Touch off the Surface, slow screen response because the Surface only runs integrated graphics. You also have to carry around two pieces of gear everywhere.. And your using windows etc
I would rather just use the live standalone and plug it into my much more powerful studio tower on the rare occasion i want to use the full software, mix down a track, or use extra audio tracks.
Not to mention a sound card if you want to record. I did this type of setup with Maschine and a Surface Pro 3, and the hassle of it eventually soured me on it. There's a big difference between a system that you turn on and start working with, as opposed to having to plug in two things to a hub (SP has only one USB port) then troubleshoot to see why the control surface isn't responding. The non-touch desktop experience on the surface is also rough, and I don't think you would get 2 hours of battery with the MPC Touch attached, let alone a sound card.
MPC Touch IS a soundcard
Whoops.
How about this?
Does MPC Touch require a power supply or is it USB bus powered?
MPC Touch includes a power supply which is required for the product to function fully. Without the power supply connected, MPC Touch will still send data from the pads and controls to the MPC software via USB, but the built-in touchscreen will not power on.
@ksound That's why I sold it. Too many cables. And that's why I'm so excited about the Live.
Yep. Totally frustrating.
A "Copy Mixer" function would go a long way.
Also forgot you have to sell your soul to get existing samples into the app.
Also forgot how completely frustrating the piano roll is. I couldn't even get it to pan up and down. Half the times I selected a note I was unable to move it.
That said, the main purpose for me was to try and wrap my head around program->track->sequence->song and that seems more straight forward than I recalled.
Damn, the most frustrating thing is just how feature packed iMPC Pro really is when considering the shortcomings. That main page is just chock full of useful things. The track navigator couldn't be simpler. Copying sequences is dead simple (once you know). Muting pads, 16 level options on pads... good stuff! The sample editor isn't great but it's good. Would definitely be a big boon for my type of work if it supported MIDI programs + MIDI out. Or at least keygroup programs. I might be able to save 1200 bucks.
Getting existing samples into iMPC Pro went from being a major pain in the butt to a joy! First I tried iTunes file transfer into iMPC Pro. That was no good because of the lack of folder support (everything ended up in 1 folder). Then I tried copying samples to the AudioCopy iTunes transfer location. It copied the folder structure but getting the files from AudioCopy into iMPC Pro was a major pain and literally took hours. Finally I remembered reading threads about iFunbox. iFunbox worked like a charm! I was able to copy all of my favorite samples directly into iMPC Pro within a matter of minutes:) I even copied my entire Beat Thang Virttual library into iMPC Pro. Despite the Beat Thang hardware failure the sound library was actually quite nice.
woah that looks nice.. only $2500 here lol. out of my price range
With 128 tracks, keygroup programs and tons of storage, interesting to consider that these can also serve as pretty robust multi-timbral sound modules.
Great machine. Thanks for the vids
yep, I think the beat thangs samples came from the streebox, I have one and people are always surprised at how good it sounds
Woooo

Omg! I'm more excited about NAMM then I was for Christmas lol.
At first I did not like the look of the MPC X but it does look pretty sexy in action. The portability of the Live is the main attraction for me.
Zoom SB-246 Streetboxx! Yes Beat Kangz created the sounds. I had one up until last summer. I gave it to my nephew who has gotten into Rap music production. He loves it.
thats the one, I've had friends borrow mine and sample all of the sounds out of it... the beatkangz know how to make good sounds
Yessssssssssssssssssss
Yep and it runs on a few AA batteries. Nice little mobile drum machine
Just went down to my local music shop and they had a mpc touch setup. Sat there for about 30min jamming on it. Really nice unit, had a great time chopping up samples and building some beats.. preorder the live on the way out
...and you didn't film anyone of it??!?! Lol. Nice. I need to check out some shops in my area ASAP
The guy in the music shop said no one knew how to use it so just said go for it, I managed to work out loading samples, adding fx, chopping a loop, and recording a sequence all within 15min with no manual. All on the mpc touch. Was really impressed with how intuitive the workflow was (granted I've used the old standalones a lot).
The pads are great too, I'm really looking forward to picking up my live when it comes in stock
Also the screen was really responsive, and people are saying it's improved on the live so that's pretty awesome. Got a month to prep loops on my iPad in samplr and gadget haha
Excellent. What did you think of the FX section? This is one area I have not seen much coverage. I know there's an X/Y grid in there but I'm guessing standard effects, delay, reverb flanger etc; and how about 2.0 in general, anything weird happen? lol. The software is the only thing stopping me from a preorder. This is why I need to call in sick for work and find a store
Dude, he played with the TOUCH not the LIVE.
Which have similar workflows
PS: Happens to me too... I read stuff to excited about it and I often overlook the details.
