This update is amazing! Big up to Korg for their hard work! I want to be able to move the audio clip in the timeline, future update hoping! Mixture with Auria can help with that for now atleast.
Just thinking about buying the mac version.
It's £160 or there abouts because unlike the Apple Store the Korg store takes the live exchange rate rather than saying $=£.
I think.
So at that price it's certainly cheaper than Logic for us in the U.K.
Tempted.
Anyone know how long the special price is for?
Until the end of April.
I finally broke free of the computer. Not looking to jump back. Only computer use i've had recently is sample management.
Nope...looks like the Patches are saved directly in the .VST instrument. I don't see them anywhere in the VST folders in Finder...just the instruments. Looks like you can create whatever Patch you want on each instrument, and the settings will carry over from iOS to OS X instrument, but you'll need to save a unique instance on each device to Save the Patch...so it's no different than it is now if you use Gadget on multiple iOS devices.
Well, nothing's certain, but if there was someone in this scruffy brotherhood who might most benefit from taking the Gadget-on-the-Desktop plunge I think most of us would vote for you...
That's very impressive stuff right there. I don't know of anyone who has pushed the 'Export to Ableton' thing nearly as far. Suddenly $199 doesn't seem quite as out of line to me (were I a heavier Gadget or Live user!).
Indeed. Don't even bother fighting it, Matt. Looking forward to hearing the consequences.
Well...I took the plunge and I am really enjoying the workflow. I really love using Gadget as a Sketch Pad, and now that I have it on the Desktop, where I like to finish things in Ableton Live...I feel like I've found "my workflow". I love to sketch on the run whenever I have time...and now it all just works. Anyhoo...here's a finished experiment from the trinity of Gadget on iOS+Mac+Ableton Live Midi VST integration. I used a few extra instruments once I got into Live (of course)...

That's lovely.
Very impressively done.
Making me more tempted (although I don't own Ableton beyond the 'lite' one)
Ha. Thanks...
My current self justification internal monologue thing starts a bit like this:
"I have about 3 years worth of musical ideas stored up in Gadget projects"
And ends with:
"I really ought to make at least one 'proper album' sometime - and im sure I'm likely to put the time into polishing and finishing things sat at a big laptop screen/monitor rather than hunched over an iPad or iPhone screen - great as they are for generating ideas".
So I guess that would be how I'd justify clicking 'buy'.
(I'll probably buy it tomorrow!).
Thanks...I'll be the first to admit it...if you're not an Ableton User...the Desktop version may not be for you...but if you are...that connection to a proven Production environment is a nice workflow enhancement.
Starting on my iPad or iPhone, polishing on Desktop Gadget and then finishing in Live is what I've wanted for the last two years...glad that day has arrived
Ableton Live Set Export support via their SDK was the greatest idea ever!
Next to Ableton Link
Shouldn't have done it but I did. Spent the last couple hours mucking about with Gladstone, London, Kamata, Lexington, and Helsinki via Logic. I know that the general consensus around here is that Gadget works great on the iPad, but I never felt it -- I loved the idea of awesome, diverse, simplified sound modules but found the app difficult and uninspiring in practice.
Now that the instruments are available in Ableton and Logic, it's the best of both worlds. IMO the Gadget Plugin Collection is peak Gadget.
Picked this up a few hours ago to use with My Korg Nanokey Studio. It's awesome, but definitely a 1.0 release.
Problems so far mostly have to do with integration of the hardware and software:
Missing some midi mappings for the new gadgets when running in Native Mode.
Tap tempo button on the studio doesn't work.
Scale and key selection work from the studio but don't update the scale and key display in the software until you reopen the scale and key display.
I can't figure out how to scroll around in the sequencer.
The download was a link from an email. I've backed up the dmg file but I really prefer to download from an account. I have no idea what I'll do if I ever lose the dmg file.
Good stuff:
Gadgets sound amazing.
iCloud integration is fantastic. All my iPad and iPhone projects were instantly available as far as I can tell.
The AUs alone are worth the price. They work and sound beautiful in Ableton.
Plenty of keyboard shortcuts to mitigate the fact that you have to interact with your computer quite a bit (this is not like maschine or push where you can do almost everything from the hardware)
Hope this helps.
Thank´s for the info!
Might i bother you with some more questions i try to find out.
Is it fact that the plug-in versions of the Gadget´s really are exact the same as in the Gadget DAW?
Or are they the "full" versions. Means, is there an arp in the Lexington AU/VST?
Still waiting for the first you-tube reviews.
They are like the iOS gadgets.
How does the channel strip fx, delay compression translate to Ableton with the VST's ?
Do the tracks sound a lot different?
Also the main limiter and reverb
No reviews yet but I found a couple of short youtube videos
Well I've bought it.
Just installing...
Can anybody tell me if Bluetooth headphones work with the Mac version? The IOS version still doesn't support Bluetooth audio.
Expect to hear from you in a week or two, wizened but (hopefully) happy.
Ha.
Work Mac out of battery and (new style) charger I stupidly left at work.
Home Mac (old style charger) on too old an operating system to run it.
So I either have to pop to the office tomorrow or not even get a chance to play with it until Monday.
Don't you just hate computers!
Interesting take! We all get Ableton Live Lite through Gadget for iOS. In a way, thought that the plugin versions of the Gadgets could complement that, to an extent. Of course, you’re limited in many ways, but the idea of having a Gadgetful Ableton Live project exported from iOS sounds quite appealing, even if it only has a few channels and scenes.
So, this insight helps me feel good about not buying the macOS version of Gadget. Was already convinced that it would be quite irrational purchase in my case. But it’s one of those to put in the category of things which work well with the full Ableton.
No. I love computers, it's work I hate
Well I should have been clearer. If Ableton Live is your cup of tea...Lite or Full then Gadget on macOS is a perfect fit for that type of DAW workflow.
I just know some people who don't like Ableton for whatever reason.
Sorry if this has been covered already, but are the AU/VST plugin of Lexington identical to the iOdessei that is with the arpeggiator/sequencer and all the bells and whistles, or is the cripled gadget version?
And if so - does it sync with the host?
As opposed to the IOS version which is still not fixed. Grrrr...
I wonder, do the Zurich tracks function exactly the same in the Desktop Gadget?
Last time I checked the iOS version did support Bluetooth audio. Maybe it's depending on the Bluetooth device?
Fixing to take the plunge today... here goes...
Hmmmm that could be of the Bluetooth headphones I have seem to work with everything else. If I am able to borrow some other Bluetooth headphones I will give them a try.
In the meantime does anybody know the answer to this question, both on iOS and the Mac?
