  • I am surprised in that I'd have expected Gadget to have migrated to Android rather than to the desktop.

Profit making is the answer. Go where the money is philosophy.

  • I wonder if there will be a "complete package" for iOS too. I see no bundle for Korg in the store.
Then i ask me if they deliver the mac version via mac app store or their own shop (which i would prefer).

Well, they would get my money the same day they released it for Android.

  • I don't think that Korg has yet made it clear how they are going to sell this. It says that it comes with "Gadget Plug-in Collection." But it doesn't say how many Gadget plug-ins comes with the basic app.

It also say that the "Ultimate Gadget Collection" includes all of the more than 30 gadgets. Presumably this means the 28 gadgets plus Zurich, Rosario, and the new drum gadget (Durban?) for a total of 31. Yeah, I have an "ultimate" collection too, because I have all 28. Ultimate can just mean you bought everything they made available for sale.

We won't know until Korg tells us, but maybe they will sell Gadget-for-Mac the same way they sell it for the iPad, with a basic set of Gadgets and the rest sold as IAPs. That way they could keep the initial cost low. I'm thinking it could be $99, but you would have to pay through the nose to get the other stuff. I'm guessing each extra gadget will cost more than the ones do on the IPad.

Korg Legacy Collection synths like M1, MS-20, Wavestation, etc currently sell for $49. Maybe if you buy one of them you will get their corresponding gadgets free. That would make sense because you do need a full featured version of M1, in order to get the most of Darwin. One thing that is rarely mentioned here is that the Legacy collection also includes a Multi-Effects Plug-in, the MDE-X.

There could be advantages for purchasers of Korg devices, particularly the nanos. When I bought my nanoKEY studio, it came with M1 Le. Owning M1 Le means that the Korg Legacy collection is 50% off, only $100.
I wouldn't be surprised if there are other advantages and discounts available to people who have nanos and other Korg controllers.

But I don't have to worry about it yet, because I don't use my Mac for music anymore. I'll have to wait until they come out with it for PC, before I stress about how much this is going to cost.

I don't think anybody has discussed that it will also have NKS functionality. That will add many features I don't have with my nanoKontrol, including the ability to change patches from my controller. Also, ALL the gadget knobs and switches can be pre-mapped to my NKS controller, not just 8.

  • Still talking about price? I'll check back later

  • I bet this 3.0 update will have code name "Fat Gadget" B)

    In Korg We Trust

  • I can't help but to speculate what the new '16 pad Drum Gadget' will include...

Will it be a 'hybrid' based on the Electribe 2/Electribe 2 Sampler with some added features?
(In practice this could be a new 'sampler gadget' loosely based on the Electribe Sampler (with filters IFX etc.) and a 'grouping' of 16 'Gadgets' that could be triggered from one unified 'Pad UI').

    Few more days to go...

  • People still use Macs uh? I'm guessing it was a relatively easy port, and it's still under Apples roof and all. But bring on the PC version, Korg.

  • @5pinlink said:
Wouldn't it make more sense for them to finally repurpose the IElectribe code and make that a gadget and VST too ?

    Yepp that would make sense!
(Same with iDS-10, iMS-20 and iPolysix for starters)

I'm still leaning on the 'Electribe 2/Sampler' for the 16-Pad drum thingy.
Even if the 'synth engine' in the Electribe 2 series is pretty (ok very) basic it's quite capable and fun to tweak!

Few more days to go and we'll know more :)

  • In practical usage 'Gadget' is already like the 'Electribe 2' on roids but doesn't have a 'Central Pad-UI' to trigger all 16 gadget-tracks as a 'groove box'. That's why I suspect the new 16-pads thingie will have an option to trigger other Gadgets as well as include a 'sampler' and some kind of 'drum synth'.

Absolutely - a Linux version would be very cavalier. Oh wait, you probably meant a PC running windows.

well i for one hope this is not the case, but rather an extended version of tokyo, maybe with other voicings for the existing kick, snare, etc

I have a feeling we'll se re-cycled code from iElectribe as a complement and really both iMS-20 and iPolysix do quite nice job of creating percussion sounds too :)

What about people like me, sitting in front of a hackintosh right now?

Good luck with clover, next MacOS update. :#

Yeah, ims20 and ipolysix are a more glaring omission

  • Is it just me or does that button on the top right in some of the screenshots look like a Kaoss pad toggle switch? I HOPE SO!

Of those four icons in the upper-right of the main grid screen, the first two look like icons for nanoKONTROLStudio and nanoKEYStudio to me.

It would be great if those provide "settings" for those external devices, rather than having to configure everything on a PC.

  • As the gadgets will now be available as macOS audio units/vst's, does that make it a small possibility they might be rolled out as AU's in iOS?!

The real 'BOMB' would be that all the Gadgets are AUv3 on iOS as well :)

  • Would love that but would be a wierd step back in terms of marketing. They have succeeded in pushing a closed environment. They won. Why would they open up the au thing?

I agree. They want people to buy into their app ecosystem. They can definitely get away with it because they are top quality. At the same time, it would be awesome if they did lol

My guess is that's for the split screen modes.

  • I'm hoping Gadget will finally get a bigger on-screen and pads with possibility to enter/play notes with different velocities.

But honestly I would be quite surprised if we se the next update being available on the same date as it's announced.

The update 2.0 was last february. A few more days... :'(

Why would that be a step back? you can already record individual Gadgets into DAWs via AudioBus or IAA. So Gadgets as Audio Units would only be the next step. And another selling point for the more expensive Gadgets.

I was talking about from Korg's perspective. Gadget as an app, is closed compared to an app like Auria that encourages multiple app usage from different developers (AU, IAA etc;). Gadget can be used in other scenarios but only approved Gadget synths can be used within the app. I agreed with the earlier point made in that they spent the past few years keeping it closed. To all of a sudden go the AU route would be shocking in my head. However, stranger things have happened as seen on the best show in Netflix :D

  • Maybe it'll be free on Mac OS just like NanoStudio and DM1
