Great now that the beans have been spilled, here's a tip:

You can load MULTIPLE instances of Beathawk (with the same project if you want) in the same AU Host (AUM, GarageBand). And it freaking syncs!!!

It's been a joy to test!

yes this is the killer feature for me, lots of ways to experiment with this, thanks UVI

Is there no improvement to sample chopping?

Unfortunately my idea didn't make it into the iPad app.
They did do something on the iPhone version. You can see the sample full screen and adjust both the endpoints.

Damn even that would of been great to do basic chopping

  • It is an AU "instrument" itself. Here's a screenshot of it loaded in AUM, playing one of the demo songs. Also, the transport controls in AUM triggers play/stop, which is a good thing. Lots of possibilities!

Does resizing the AU window work(so that the contents stretch)? I noticed that some apps get bugged out if you try to resize them

  • Well excited to play and now I have to restore all my purchases. Guess I'll wait a little bit longer

This is fabulous!!! Thanks UVI !!

Really hoped this would at least have a zoomed in sample editor with sample chopping. Been waiting for a long time for this and bit sad that sampling has been neglected. It is still able to chop using the old mpc copy pad method.
Doesn't seem the timestrech works very well either :(
    Ah well next stop bm3

Great that the rest of you like it though :)

Wow, you're in and out already?
    The videos are pretty impressive.
    https://www.uvi.net/beathawk.html#videos

It seems that the business model is to sell sound packs and loops and so on.
But the whole thing is really well designed and responsive and impressively deep. The sample editor is on par with what you get in AudioShare, but with the ability to send to pads.

Yes but the multislice to keys (which is in their store drum loops since v1) still hasn't been made available to user loops. This is one of the things I have been waiting on. Also the sample editor is not on par with AudioShare, you cannot zoom like AudioShare to fine adjust sample marker. Audioshares sample editor is very basic anyway, I was hoping for them to open up the slice to keys with a better editor.

I was just using it then, and if I want to take a loop I've made in samplr and chop it into 8 chunks, I have to use 8 of bh2's pads. Not enough room left for the rest of the song

If I use a iap loop I can access all the chops while only loading to a single pad.

  • So you can pitch the samples you load right? And play them on the keys? It's just not super editable is this the gist? Cause that sounds fine to me if that's the case.

  • Anyway impressive app, just went in a different direction than I had hoped. So much potential with the sequencing.

More of a sound module than a sampler I guess

I can see the limitation — I thought the zoom button did more than just make the wave form a little bigger!

So are iMPC Pro and BM2 the only apps that allow you to edit a sample, insert slice points and assign to pads?

    Yes.

  • I think my main problem before with it (other than sample trimming) was that it didn't play well with others so I deleted it. But now that's changed I'm sure I'll make lots of uses with this as an AU.

  • Between this, KRFT, and my new found love for Figure it's been groovebox overload this year. Definite plus

  • Sounds alright to me! Can't wait to try on iphone. too bad they don't have a sale on any soundpacks - I might've picked up a few - maybe I'll get one... anybody recommend some of the better ones?

  • What are the sounds like? Good? The M1 is my only rompler now.

BH sounds really great to me

  • Screen rotation bugs abound in the iPhone version.

  • if UVI can fit their whole app into AU format, I'm waiting for Sugar bytes to do the same for Egoist :)

It's rotating fine on my 6s. Hmm

Indeed. A new standard has been set!

I was wondering about this also.....

Is it possible to control playback start/stop through MIDI when loaded as an AU ?

  • @AndyPlankton said:

That could be cool but overly complex as well. This is where @j_liljedahl's idea for an insert in AUM that mutes/unmutes a channel at the beginning of a bar could be really, really helpful. I'd load up BH playing multiple sequences (leave them looping) in AUM channels and simply mute/unmute as I need them.

    I can imagine that :)

Too bad Input-Monitoring and simple Normalise & Trim didn't make it.

I can safely say that sampling geeks will love the app I'm testing...
(So nice to communicate with a dev who listens and actually implements too hehe).

  • not sure, AU Parameters are unexposed unfortunately. There is a midi learn mode within the AU version but not clear how that's working yet.

This is the one I'm waiting for, but hopefully it arrives soon!

Yeah, well every fascinating technical conversation you have with the dev is another wee that Beatmaker 3 isn't on my iPad!
