Is it possible to control playback start/stop through MIDI when loaded as an AU ?

That could be cool but overly complex as well. This is where @j_liljedahl's idea for an insert in AUM that mutes/unmutes a channel at the beginning of a bar could be really, really helpful. I'd load up BH playing multiple sequences (leave them looping) in AUM channels and simply mute/unmute as I need them.

    Yes indeed.....

I was thinking along the lines of using it inside ModStep, and using ModSteps grid to be able to turn BH Sequences on and off, this would then be like using the session view on the Novation Circuit but without the one session playing at a time restriction..

My problem is that it has no AudioShare. I literally have all my samples and stuff I've recorded from synths in there. So I guess I'll pass. I loathe using AudioCopy. And the internet here in Goa is too spotty to even keep iCloud enabled.

As @Samu has pointed out Beathawk continues to have AudioShare support. In the sample browser, you hit the little button with three green lines and then select Locations on the next screen and from there AudioShare. You can import whole folders into Beathawk.

  • The update is great as you can play Beathawk songs in each AU instance and have your way with them.

  • Great update. All of us have different priorities in terms of new feature dreams, but the AU implementation is a huge step forward, massively extending the app's usefulness in my Auria/Cubasis workflow! (And I was fully expecting to shell out for the new version, so I think I'll pick up some library expansions instead...)

oh wow. i stand corrected. I'm curious. how long can the samples be in beathawk ? i'm wondering if i can use multiple instances as a stand-in for audio tracks in Modstep/AUM etc.

  • Is it me, or, no audio stretch for user samples?

Puts popcorn down; narrows eyes and listens intently.

  • expansion store just got bigger

  • thinking about buying this. can you trim and edit the samples on each pad? can you layer more than one sample on each pad?

    oh really?
That would be a blow, not tested yet. And I don't use sample packs...

Yeah, well every fascinating technical conversation you have with the dev is another wee that Beatmaker 3 isn't on my iPad!

I doubt that. I'm only in touch with one person from the 'team' :)
More BM3 info will most likely leak out soonish.

    I do have a gut-feeling we'll get Gadget 3.0 before BM3 though...

That iCloud menu comes up on a few other apps and it's very easy to miss the Locations option, but it just opens up an app like this.

I had deleted Beathawk awhile back for space considerations, but had to reload and check the new version. It has some real potential now, love the piano roll and AU functionality. Greatful UVI is staying behind their app, improving it with useful tools.

It's funny how my creativity is idling while I wait for these updates....

  • Had to delete some apps to download it and then had to redownload all my sound packs. Seems pretty good so far. Had some odd behaviour in AU in AUM, but will restart iPad and try again. I was running two AU copies of the same song though lol.

Don't seem to do 'auto' audio stretch (realtime) for user samples (loops)...

  • New "Showcase" video:

  • Awesome. And now Oscilab, please ...

  • I want a new theme

(Beta tester here). My favorite parts of the update are: it's on the iPhone; the expand keyboard (especially for the iPhone), and the piano roll midi editing. Being an AudioUnit is very cool, and was the most surprising added feature, but the other stuff has really won me over

Sounds very good. Can this run on my ancient iPad mini 2? What is the breadth of music styles that can be created in Beathawk2? And are there any iaps you would deem essential? Thanks

It should run no problem on the mini2, I didn't load it to miy M2 due to space limitations but I tested on iPad4 iOS 9.3 (although AU is not working), and iphone6+ iOS 10.2 where everything seems to work okay.

As for styles of music? Whatever you want...I'm mostly Rock/Jazzy/Ambient, which I've done in Beathawk, but the app helped me expand some into more electro stuff. As for essential IAP, for me the choirs are the best on iOS and the pianos are pretty decent too. I love most of the percussion packs. Lucky you can preview some of the sounds within the app before purchasing. They've added a bunch of new sounds that I haven't checked yet.

And best of all you can access the individual instruments in the AU so I see lots of sample pack purchases in my future.

Hmmmmm, maybe not after all :(

  • thinking about buying this. can you trim and edit the samples on each pad? can you layer more than one sample on each pad?

  • Thought about getting this app as well. Then I realized I have a 16gb iPad with only a little space left. Can you delete the factory samples and free up space?

So far I've been able to access the individual instruments in the AU. It's not working for you?

You can load MULTIPLE instances of Beathawk (with the same project if you want) in the same AU Host (AUM, GarageBand). And it freaking syncs!!!

It's been a joy to test!

    I can imagine that :)

Too bad Input-Monitoring and simple Normalise & Trim didn't make it.

I can safely say that sampling geeks will love the app I'm testing...
(So nice to communicate with a dev who listens and actually implements too hehe).

If you're testing the one I'm testing, the one EVERYONE's waiting for, then yes, IT WILL BE A BLAST!

  • Can it quantize to triplets?

Well I thought I had it working, then it went to pot.

    Probably user error

  • This üpdate makes it way more interesting for me now.Oh,and i don't care about BM3 because it will most likely suffer from the same disadvantage i had with BM2 as well:that i couldn't use the great (drum)sampler as a single instrument in other apps. So,beathawk wins hands down for me.I work with auria, cubasis and Gadget and that's totally enough. Not gonna start using a 4th daw.Exception would be: a DAW from @j_liljedahl
