No way I'd cancel my MPCL preorder for this. My main goal is to arrive at full production in one box. Pare down till my studio is small enough to drown in the sink. And the latest chatter from beta testers is that Akai nailed it with this one; that MPC Live is rock solid.

interesting, the first review from a german site said there are bugs

  • I was just on the phone to my supplier and they have 3 digitakt from the first shipment not yet snapped up. I will get both, just not sure which to get first

  • due next week too

  • Elektron has said that they are planning other devices in this form factor. My personal guess is that next we may see something a bit like the functionality of the (now retired) MachineDrum in the same enclosure. The other (perhaps slimmer) possibly is some kind of loopplayer in the same sized box. Just my guess.

  • @HandOfEmpty and @syrupcore thank you very much for your excellent explanation. I understand completely, now.

What we lose from within the Digitakt surely we can 'manufacture' from midi out into ipad and then sound routed back into DT? Sure, it still sums to mono, but at least we can control 'balance' of the sound to be captured on the ipad side. Then there's the 4 note polyphony over each midi channel, which is nice.

Ooh a loop player would be great with 16 loops and the plock parameter/fx crossfader from the octatrack

You can pan from within the digitakt. So your 8 samples can sit anywhere in the stereo field. You just can't capture stereo samples in stereo.

Cool, got that. Don't think it would interfere too much with my options for having a sh!t ton of fun.

Harvesting YouTube for Digitakt demos has been my modus operandi for the last week. Here's some more I found this afternoon, for those who haven't seen them yet. Nothing new info-wise, but some of the sounds that come out of this box are delightful.

    and...

  • ok, I'm glad about the 'more boxes on the way rumor' as this gives my fence purpose, I didn't think I could wait until next year for an updated version but I can wait to see what comes down the pike if the other boxes materialize and in the meantime get cozy with the mpcL..... then if nothing better drops, settle in with the digitakt.... can't wait to see if they really have something for loops planned.

Think if I also owned the MPC Live I'd almost be happy the Digitakt didn't have any loop friendly features. Couldn't possibly match what the MPC Live is promising along those lines and would serve to keep the Digitakt clean, UI/UX/workflow wise.

  • I'd be surprised if they do something to compete directly with the digitakt right away. They usually keep things very different, so that you buy more. The stereo is not too big a thing for me. Ar is mono. Most drum machines. Helps keep eveything tight imo. Once you send the hats to reverb it's gonna come out stereo anyways.
For non drum stuff i would rather have two pads that are a lil bit different panned opposite each other. More ear candy. Then pingpong delay it and wash it. Hmmmm tasty

  • @syrupcore + vpich

most drum machines I've ever had were both mono/and stereo but I do understand what you mean syrup, still I'm the type that likes to have the options because I'll most likely end up using all of them at one time or another. I like to squeeze whatever functionality I can get out of a box and firstly the important thing is what a beatmachine can do on it's own, thats very important to me and then after that what it can do in conjunction with other gear.
Anyway I'm going to wait and see what else they are going to come out with cause you know it'll be interesting whatever it is.
imho Ben could save us all allot of money and still make himself huge load of the green stuff by putting in the most recently requested features in all of the Patterning threads and including those p.lock/ trigger features cause the pads on the digitakt aren't even velocity sensitive and it can't last for a day untethered like patterning or use as much sample mem as patterning, or even as much storage as patterning.... I'd pay handsomely for a Patterning update that had sample slicing galore plus all of the other stuff we asked for.

  • i'm still juggling which to get first.. but i think it's going to be the digi. I just see so many happy accidents and inspiration flowing from that box. MPC Live next haha

  • I don't doubt it, you're lucky your local shop isn't already sold out

Someone was bound to find a few... but hey. that's why it's still not on the shelves, yet. More power to Akai for resisting pressure to release early, and for making sure they get this one right.

    .

  • Actually BM3 covers a lot of the MPC's functionality that I want from the digitakt (timestretch, stereo chops, keygroup instruments).

Until I get the mpc live I think BM3 would be a fine substitute especially sequenced from the digitakt. Eight midi channels from digitakt with probability and p-locks. The digitakt can also monitor its inputs so can have the iPad plugged right in.

    Exciting times

Now just need BM3 to release!

Yeah hopefully all ironed out on release. It's going to be an amazing machine if its bug free!

Worth noting that the sound monitored through the digitakt will come through as stereo. Only once recorded is it mono.

So you can have a synth on your iPad being played live by the digitakt midi and running through the digitakt and then onto your speakers still in stereo

  • @mireko_2 that's good to know as it confirms what I thought should happen...

...so, I've just pulled the trigger and bought it for £600 on Gear4Music's web site in the UK. They have 4 units due for delivery on 27th of May (all snapped up, obviously) and another 24 coming on the 9th of June. My approx delivery date is Mon 12th to Wed 14th of June.

Is it subject to potential delay? Probably. Just extremely happy to know I've snagged one.

    Now the wait begins...

I'm going to try and snag a first round preorder tomorrow, my local had 3 left the other day. Hopefully they still have one for me

So long to wait still though..

I know, but knowing it's coming eventually makes me feel gooooooooood. Good luck getting one ordered, there's gonna be one left there for you!

  • Seeing $650 in the US. Same dates.

  • I've been over at Elektronauts a bunch recently. Great forum. Whenever I see "OT" I think Octatrack these days.
