  • it's allot to digest but if I end up getting the digitakt I would definitely go this route because I'd need to keep it on me at all times. very disappointed at how bulky the mpc live is although it's still coming home with me anyway, but I thought my bulky days were gone for good.... I used to carry a big ass laptop and a roland sp-808 around with me everywhere I went, which at the time was strictly by bus and it was a nightmare, when I think of those times the mpc live is a miracle but I learned from carrying around an mpc 1000 non-stop how much difference the battery really makes..

if bm3 gets the workflow right, it will at least be able to share the load!

  • boo, kind of underwhelming to say the least...., this must not be the sample box rumors were eluding too, the journey continues

  • either they have a secret update in the works that is supposed to make it worth it or they are definitely in another frame of mind.

It's just the new octatrack design. Not very exciting.

  • Got an email from Elektron: Oktatrack MKII is 1449€ or 1349$

If you buy it in $$=1349 equals 1184€.
If you buy in €, 1449€ is about $1653 :o some incomprehensible rates....(rough money exchange rate at the moment)
There is too much difference between €<>$ !

I'm just stumped why exchange rate+taxes is no longer how euros/pounds are worked out, it seems to be dollars+100, which is a complete joke.

  • That jump does seem really weird/extreme but I'd probably pay an extra $200 if it meant everyone around me had healthcare, I could travel freely between many countries and my president wasn't a narcissistic idiot.

Digitakt vs Octatrack, side by side workflow and feature comparison.

every time I see cenk it makes it harder to resist

  • iPad is a great companion for any of these beat machines though

Add 25% to the US price, which is the tax % we pay here in Sweden. The various EU countries tax % varies between 15-27% (something like that). You'll usually get away cheaper by just ordering from some other store, rather then from Elektron directly. The price was also bumped upped by Elektron on the Digitakt here in EU before the release due to the € market sucking right now. No doubt that added to the MKII pricings as well. Eventually they'll go down again, unless Putin, Kim or Trump accidentally drops a nuke in this general area.

As for the Digitakt, I've never had as much fun with a machine that lacks keys. Electribe 2, Circuit etc I got rid off those quite fast. There's something with jotting down melodic content using pads that turns my brain upside down. Or turn it off rather. One day I shall overcome that pad issue tho lol. Anyway they managed to nail having both a great live performance workflow (as Cenk have shown a few times now) and a studio/bedroom workflow that is immediate and just fun as hell. It's no MPC, which is a very good thing as those are everywhere, it's very much an Elektron machine, albeit with a bit more immediacy compared to their other boxes.

  • yes it's so good though that I can't help but feel like there is something else a step or two further in the works between the digitakt and the rytm/octa...... and unfortunately I have the kind of luck that would see something just like that be released a day after my return policy ran out lol. is there a digitakt -ish elektron beatmachine on the horizon with time stretch, stereo sampling, velo pads, and all the fixings.... if elektron is a company that wants to make money and feed their families there's gotta be

  • Nice mini review @ChrisG. Dammit.

Nah lol. I think they'll stick with OT and Rytm MKIIs and MKIs for a few more years before any other similar machines might show up. I just hope the Analog Keys isn't abandoned. Either they do abandon it, or they expand it to a...6 or 8 voice thing, slap another octave or two on it and add more knobs, basically making it more attractive to people who would buy a DSI or whatever (all while still keeping the same sequencer etc architecture as the A4/AK). Or...they just release a AK MKII to keep production costs down lol I dunno. I might pass thru Göteborg this summer, I'll make sure to infil their HQ if I do, will obviously covertly Periscope it all:)

Yeah, thanks a lot guy (kidding!!!)

I'm loving the sampler daw that shall remain nameless but that Digitakt looks so sexay and sounds like it'd be a whole lot of fun to sample my flutes and didgeridoo and banjo and make chaos

  • Was really happy to see that you can record chords properly instead of building them manually from a single root note.

@ChrisG I know it doesn't allow you to save "midi instruments" (name, midi channel, mapped CCs, etc). Have you sorted out a smoothish way to not reinvent the wheel each time you start a new project? Import track or something?

  • That Digitakt sounds great, the more tutorial videos I see the better it sounds ;)

    Anyone bought it yet?

  • @soundklinik I came to music creation through iOS, the Digitakt is my 3rd piece of hardware and I'm loving it — yes you could do similar things in software but the immediacy, chance happenings and pure creativity of the box is amazing. This is a great intro to the joys of the Digi:

Thanks @Artefact2001, really great video and excellent track... sounds like lots of fun. (Been watching a few lately)
And that was just audio part...didn't get into midi part yet...fantastic box...I always loved Elektron <3 instruments
Plus the have the "Overbridge" that also works as a sound card...

Oh hai thar! My internet is....really slow. I've only briefy been sequencing a blofeld to try the midi out. At this point I'm pretty sure I'll just have the midi out go back into the midi in. This basically lets you use the midi tracks to control the audio tracks, and gives you more LFOs etc per audio track. It really lets you go nuts with the machine (there's videos on YouTube showing some neat stuff).

If you set up the midi tracks and wanna use those settings in other projects, you could just make a bunch of copies of that project. Having it work like templates. Should work (?).

  • would like to see some videos of that 'controlling the audio tracks with the midi tracks' got any links?

    Here's one

  • wow, thanks Chris

  • Dammit. I got sucked in. Now i need this and am convinced i am severely handicapping my true potential if i don't get it. Anybody know if the inputs work as an interface for ipad?

  • Waiting on delivery for mine. Anybody here have one and try it out with any apps? Some guy on elektronauts has had a good time mixing it with bm3. I plan on sequencing all internally and just recording the samples and external midi synths into auria (or aum,...depending).

I've had a Digitakt for a few months now and honestly don't feel like I get much more out of it than BM3, along with other apps. If anything, BM3 is more visual and easier to use, but that's to be expected from an iPad screen versus a Digitakt screen.

Sadly, the Digitakt has been gathering dust due to the iPad. At $650, it definitely doesn't seem much of a value compared to the $20 BM3 app. I've been trying to play around with the Digitakt more this week in hopes of a spark to be reignited but, honestly, it feels cumbersome compared to my iPad apps.

I know it does some things that apps like conditional trigs and p-locks but most of it seems to be duplicated by the apps I have. At $650, it's a bit pricey when I look at all that I have under my fingertips in my iPad.

don't have the digitakt yet (still on back order) but have had other elektron gear and what you really pay for is the sequencer, fx and hands on control.
