Portrayed by Ana Gasteyer. First appeared in Fleas (1.16). Patrice Lessner is a federal district court judge.

Demands that all lawyers mention that their claims be in their opinion.

Yeah, i desperately wanted to belong to the cool kids like @JohnnyGoodyear and used the magic of google image search. And i only prefaced two of my sentences with "I think". So it could have easily been mistaken, that i would state these as a matter of fact.

Only by someone who watches low brow daytime TV shows and is too dumb to get some sounds out of a synth without a randomizer, of course.

That escalated quickly. There is really no place for synthesis purists in the ipad realm of synthesis.

Anyone interested in a randomizer feature?

    Raises both hands................................................

A simple randomiser can easily create patches that create empty or really confusing and noisy sounds. We want to do something more intelligent. Our problem is just one. Too many tasks for a single programmer. It takes time!

What are the best randomisers you have seen around? Can you name the apps?

I've always liked the one in Magellan.

  • Woosh. Super quick escalation. I don't know the show and googled it because i was curious. And the one liner description was perfect. Chill @hexagonsun83, i don't think it was meant as a burn. Every post is an opinion, in my opinion.

  • So in your opinion what would me the most essential settings that would be randomized to create useful stuff?

  • Come on, I will swear all day long to my love of Vinyl, but everyone has the right to use MP3s if they want lol ;)

I have no idea...DRC is a very old school synth with a fresh UI. It's one of the most straightforward bread and butter synths out there, it just looks different. And it sounds amazing. I don't see any potential use to randomize anything on such a standard synth...

    Ethylene resin head!

  • I have to say, DRC is such an easy synth to program in my opinion. I would have made hundreds of patches for it, if only it had a decent way to save sounds to my Google Drive.

When the new save system arrives, DRC will shoot to my number one spot for subtractive synth sounds.

We are working on a update. This release is mostly fixing problems.

    1.1.4 - Changelog

    • New sound bank (this one will have contributions from @RustiK, @Fruitbat1919, and @RedSkyLullaby... thank you so much guys ;) )
    • Background Audio option is now off by default (some people were complaining about battery drain)
    • Implemented Polyphonic Aftertouch support
    • Implemented Midi Out Channel support (settings panel)
    • Implemented fail safe case when loading projects where saved patch had no parameters
    • Implemented mobile remote support on Windows
    • Fixed a bug that would cause Factory Expansion bank unavailability on desktop versions
    • Fixed a bug that would cause DRC VST sound engine to crash while navigating patches on same daw's
    • Fixed a bug that would cause incoherence on radio buttons across presets (eg: OSC modulation panel)

Any chance you'll look at AudioBus 3 support?

By the way, one of my favorite things to do is to use GeoShred as a Midi controller with DRC. There's something about the wobbliness I can get from GS that complements the DRC warmth so well... Polyphonic aftertouch will only help further, so thanks for that!

  • I love this more and more. I said to myself I'm gonna make 'x' patch then I went and had it in 3 minutes. With this and Mood, times are good recently.

I'd love to have more modulation options...An EG on the Ringmod Yamaha style that would be madness!

@sinosoidal I like the patch in your video on the site. Once of the cutaways to the ipad shows you're using a patch called DRCb. Is this s custom patch? Or, is it included in the "Factory Expansion" within the iOS app?

Also, is there a list of what's included in the factory expansion, or a demo showing off the extra patches?

  • Can i share easy patches between iOS and the plug-in without i-tunes or i-cloud?
I have the iPhone version and it sounds really good.

Just getting started with DRC, but so impressed already. Some brilliant ideas everywhere. I'm generally a sucker for skeumorphic UIs, but this modern UI is so well done. The sliders/dials are perfectly scaled, a joy to operate, especially if your go to analog synth was the Odyssei before...

This doesn't only sound great, it is kinda the most modern and "customer" friendly synth. A beautiful patch browser, a trial functionality...great job.

    And that sound...Love it!

Would you go so far as to say DRC makes Odyssei redundant? Sorry, know they're all special snowflakes, just rationalizing my current KORG boycott...

Like all forms of art there is a push and pull between the medium and the artist. The medium acts a certain unpredictable way and the artist responds and uses this as a point of departure.

randomization is good at facilitating these points of departure. Also, its funny that this thread is becoming "the generative fallacy part 2.

Although, some aspect of the focus on the generative fallacy (part 1) was about the amount of work, tweak, beavering, busy-bee-ing, planning, hoping, machining, architecting, and work again, only to press the go button and be faced with nothing usable first time, then more work, more tweak, nothing second time, and so on until you do get something triumphant. By which time, etc.

With randomisers, there's no work, just press, nope, press, nope, press, nope, press, nope, press, think of a name, save, press, nope, press, nope, etc. Not much work there, no planning to be thwarted, no influence (imagined or real), no architecting, no hope.

It's a bit like the difference between betting on the horsies, or doing the lottery. At least with the horses you can convince yourself that there's some sort of intelligent analysis going on and that you're expending the work and money for what you hope would be better than random odds. With the lottery, there's nothing anyone can do to influence it - you can't study it, improve your technique, or repeat any success - it's almost like a lottery, doing the lottery is. Of course, in both cases, there's no money left.

This was enough to get me to bite:

It's just a handful though, there are 99 total presets in the "Factory Expansion"

Redundant wouldn't be my word of choice, they do have some differences, like the sample and hold mixer. The Odyssei had a place because of its great, authentic sound, but the DRC is even better. Especially the gain/drive stages are so well done, it is kinda amazing. The ring modulator sounds amazing on the DRC, doesn't on the Odyssei. Also, the effects are better. DRC is a classic vintage synth with a very vintage sound in a modern look.

And in the handling department, it isn't even a competition. The Odyssei faders are pain to work with, try hitting some fine tunings on the oscillators is nearly impossible. The DRC interface is very good and clean, once you adjust to the layout, it is very user friendly to operate. You can even adjust fader sensitivity, it is just very thought out and well done. Also the on screen keyboard/chord pads are very well done. The patch browser on the Odyssei is the biggest joke, couldn't be more basic, and you can't even share patches with the Gadget version...

So with the DRC around, i don't see myself working on the Odyssei. 9,99€ is a steal for such a high quality synth...and the developer offers a 7 day trial period on iOS, never experienced that before...

  • That is what i ask me since a while.
    The 7 day trial period.
So why can't other apps do that? (Better 14+ days).
Of course it was amazing that i got DRC for just 2 or 3 bucks when it was on a sale.

If you use gadget oddyssei is a must. I do record model 15 and others and bring in using zurich but i prefer not commiting some stuff until later in the game.

That is indeed amazing. 9.99 is too lowly priced as well. I feel this synth is not selling as it should, at least on iOS, as it is marketed very unfortunately.

This is a vintage analogue synth emulation. The app icon doesn't really give away that it is a synth, much less that it is a vintage sounding synth. The name DRC is nothing anyone would associate with synthesis. I have read a user complain, that the (tape) delay is noisy...

The "free" app trial solution takes this app out of the paid apps app store rankings, which is also bad.

Basically if you don't already know it, you see free app with a generic app icon.

Hope i'm wrong and it sells well!

    Excellent post @hexagonsun83

  • The name always makes me think of DMSR by Prince. Then I end up making woozy sounding Oberheim-like patches

  • the main thing Oddy has that DRC doesn't even approach is the ability to assign its arp to synth parameters instead of pitch. That feature is so beyond delightful. But if I could only have one of the two (DRC or Oddy) it'd be a very tough choice.

Ty I feel if a synth addict like me misses a synth of this quality in the app store, it is a really bad sign...wouldn't even have gotten it, if it hadn't been recommended on this forum by someone. And it's a free app!! It should have always been positioned at 24,99 € and marketed as a high end cross platform vintage synth emulation.

True, it's a very powerful feature, but it doesn't sync to anything...at least last time i checked.
What sets DRC miles apart is the additional waveforms, Sine and Tri, and the gain/drive sounds unbelievable. You can play the filter in Oddy, but it's not the same...

I'm not a designer, but i have a feeling this would sell better :D
