Well, you can have several instances with the plug-in and you have the DAW integration (automations and such). It's a huge different!
But i must say that this app feels def. more home on a touch screen since the plug-in lacks some important things like mouse wheel support and proper patch management (the thing because i gave up on Korg).
If these things are sorted i would buy it but..

As a sounddesigner i rely on the touch screen. I have much more powerful plugins on the desktop, but don't work with them because i don't really like it...

With patch sync that wouldn't be an issue. But 90 bucks is a little too much for that little ...especially since my Novation Peak is scheduled to arrive in a little over a month :D

I see it often the other way. Fine editing on touch screen is still a pain for me and i'm a lot faster with my trackpad. I can zoom in/out faster and whatever.
I also like to layer stuff (20 or more intances of different instruments with different FX).
    Preferences ;)

Sorry that is just very hard to believe. Maybe you should have your hand/eye coordination checked out...Or maybe stop using Korg Odyssei :-p

    Believe it or not :p
It depends on the app. Some apps are terrible (you named it, Odyssei f.e.) while others are perfect for touch screen (Borderlands Granular).
Sliders are in general better as knobs for me on touch screens but they need more space.
The two finger scroll fine editing on my trackpad works so much better for me than with my finger. Often when i left the finger the value jumps.....aaargh.
Personal preferences. I like multi-touch but also find it sometimes overrated and it isn´t the best way for everything.
Model 15 is great but terrible to edit for me compared to a similar modular on my mac.
I still like the combination of both and try to use the best of it.
But DRC is a good synth on every platform i think (it still needs some work in some areas to compete with other synths).

@sinosoidal There's an issue with the amount of ports which DRC can see at once, I think this could be part of my problem when connected to my interface. I think the max is 14 on screen but I have way over that when connected to my iCA4 and Audiobus midiflow adapter at once, can't scroll down to see the other ports.

Do you think they are being listed but are not enabled? I don't have that many ports so I have never predicted a scrolling midi ports list.

I think they might still be enabled. you just can't see them. Here's my current view. But you can't see all the audiobus midiflow adapter ports

Ok. I have just added this to my todo list for next version. What about the issue you were having with midi?

DRC doesn't respond to midi directly when it's placed in the midi receiver slot in Audiobus 3 like most other iAA instrument apps. Something wrong is happening to the DRC midi port here. This won't work for example:

  • I've found the same with AB3 and DRC. I think there are many devs waiting to see the AB3 SDK.

  • God I am glad I did this thread.

It is filled with great info and input.

It should still work though as a receiver if it's in the list without updating the sdk as it's an IAA instrument app.

  • Guys what's the difference if it says Generator vs instrument? Some synths or drum apps say this on the list. Thanks!

  • edited May 2017

IAA instrument basically means it can receive midi through the host automatically without having to go through the core midi settings. Generator means it can only generate audio through the host.

True story! I want to publicly thank @RustiK for sharing is krush.

We have been reading all the love that has been shared during the last couple of days and we have taken notes. Priorities for the next versions are more clear now. It is really important to have feedback. Thanks for sharing your love and concerns.

Today, DRC 1.1.4 for iOS was released at the App Store. Everyone can grab the new version with the brand new "Sounds From Outer Space" sound bank. For the first time a DRC sound bank comes with 128 great sounding presets.

It is not easy to build a sound bank. Creativity starts to lack when you are still at half way so this time we have asked for help to our beta users. @RustiK, @Fruitbat1919 and @RedSkyLullaby have answered our call. Thank you so much guys for making this possible.

Since DRC for Desktop is our premium version, it has all the sound bank-app purchases bundled. DRC for desktop is also on version 1.1.4 since last friday. You can grab a demo from our downloads page.

We have been fixing a lot of small bugs on our desktop version. We think it is more compatible than ever, however, since it is our first plugin, we are still fine tuning. Please do report any problems.

As a sign of respect and appreciation to all of you that have been supporting us we have a gift card so that you can save $40 on DRC for Desktop. You just need to apply the code RUSTIKRUSH (what else? ) during checkout on our store

Thanks once again for your support and feedback!

    Best regards,

    Imaginando Team

    IAA-Generators only produce audio.
IAA-Instruments can receive midi and produce audio thru IAA.
Most IAA-Generators accept Midi via CoreMidi but not thru IAA.

    That's the quick explanation.

Bought.....couldn´t resist now. I´m sure i will create an ambient/cinematic bank for it. Not sure yet how to share that then.
Feels good to have it on macbook and iPhone now. :)
Question: Would you like that we spread the word about this discount or should it be stayed here (i think it´s fair to ask and respect the developer) because i´m sure there could be some more people interested.

  • I freaking love the new soundbank. Much appreciate that it's free for Pc/Mac users :D

  • Can't sync start/stop DRC in Auria pro
DRC stop play only when midi note finished

I don't have Auria to test with. Is that reproducible on Cubasis?

On Desktop is easier to backup banks. Local bank is saved on Documents/Imaginando/DRC as local.json

About sharing the discount: once on the internet, you can't hide anymore.

This is not something official that we will spread through our channels. Consider it a Audiobus special.

That said: Feel free to share the discount on the forum but mention this thread that @RustiK created

  • I feel kinda bad for not having given the later DRC betas enough attention as that 'other' app is keeping me busy :(
Kinda makes me wish I had so I could have played around with all the new presets...

On the positive side DRC works quite well with the 'other' app... :)

The 'Desktop' version(Mac) still keeps complaining about too many activations(5) and the installer package is not properly 'signed'(ie. Unknown Developer).

@samu, your feedback during the initial stage of DRC was priceless!

Desktop version is not allowing more than 5 activations per licenses. Have you installed you used your account on more than 5 desktop machines?

Yes, we don't have a code sign certificate for desktop signing yet.

but in Auria DRC works like hold key

    Aww, thanks!
I did log-in and out a few times to check if the new presets were there but nope ;)

Desktop version is not allowing more than 5 activations per licenses. Have you installed you used your account on more than 5 desktop machines?

Nope, just one installation, but I have done macOS and LogicPro X updates in case that affects it?

I've also tried to remove all files related to DRC to 'clean up' and do a fresh re-install but it's still the same.
(I know the part of registration-info is stored 'in the cloud' so restoring it is easy).

The desktop version works fully, it just throws up the dialogue on start-up so it's barely a minor annoyance.

Yes, we don't have a code sign certificate for desktop signing yet.

Oki, no worries, it's easy enough to work around :)

As usual if I bump into issues I'll let you know...
(And yes I'm spending way more time with BM3 than I had initially planned to do).

Great news, thx. I'm running out of excuses to not buy the plugin. Does laying down 1400 on a Novation Peak count? :D Still i just have to say, that you should stay at this price point. You put yourself in a unique position in the market, with an amazing, extremely cpu friendly cross platform synth.

If you could establish a sales model with a one time purchase for all platforms, with your account system, it would be amazing, and should do very well in sales. It could be offered as an IAP maybe positioned around 50.-

People would be forced to think about the devices they have lying around that could run it....

As far as my personal wishlist for the app:

    • a 3rd envelope/LFO
    • a modulation matrix like the Novation Peak
    • noise as a frequency modulation source :-p

    Thx and best of luck!

If everybody would just do knobs as Thor does, we wouldn't even talk about it anymore...Thor nailed it. The ultra skeumorphic approach like model 15 doesn't really work for me either, agree with you there. Maybe on an iPad Pro, but on a 9,7" it looks beautiful but...

And that's exactly what sets DRC apart, a functional, clean interface, freed from the shackles of skeumorphism...I get into a great workflow on it, it is just a dream to handle on an iPad.

We have released a new video tutorial for DRC. Have you ever wondered on how do you make Daft Punk's "Da Funk" sound? Lucas shows how to make it with DRC in just a couple of minutes.
