Maybe the screens are too small...? Why not Maschine Studio? I know is not so hackable (NI makes thing hard sometimes).
It could be a great companion think twice. Maybe Intua could manage some dedicated script for Push?
I understood it @kobamoto... my question was more about how do you imagine that controller (how many pads, tr secuencer, faders and so). Control layout and workflow.
I'm curious since you are a big fan of mpc and this could be an alternative. Dreaming about perfect controller... it will be like Push or like MpcX?
I think something like LaunchControl Pro with tr secuencer...
I was thinking about this yesterday. That would be dope if there was one.
oh I see... I guess something that looks like bm3. but something much smaller than an mpc or a push, something that feels comfortable or that you don't feel the weight, small enough to carry with your iPad all the time, maybe the size of the iPad mini 4...... there is allot going on in bm3 I know but just like you can press a button and flip through pages on the launchpad I would think intua could do something like that. The important thing for me personally is that it mirrors bm3 as much as possible.
how about 4 touch strips on the left, 16 pads on the right, and 4 rows of launchpad buttons with 16 pads in each row along the bottom.
actually your pic is pretty close..... 4 knobs above the faders/strips like in your pic would be great
Mine is wish for launchpad app upgraded launchcontrol xl (pro with the sensible pads of launchkeys mk2) but makes sense as groovebox controller too.
Could you make a collage like mine with your idea? Also if you know a actual controller which has the controls (hacker-friendly) it will get an extra point (since it could be possible to do a proof of concept) Maybe Intua is reading and can get some ideas...
Btw If I can get another launchkey mk2 I will build my design and keep the keys at home![ ](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
Deluge?

Lol. Was about to post this earlier but got distracted. I am dying to get my hands on a deluge myself.
Seems lots of fun in a box![ ](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smiley.png)
@Samu posted this in another thread... Multi/level sweet inner guttery... Its like this app is being made by/for electronic musicians or something...
You guys with your iFunbox. Doesn't exist anymore. What do you use instead?
Yep. I have the beta and have tested midi mappings on it(its great btw
). I have pretty much decided to dedicate a pad controller for this(dont have it set up atm, but ill set it up again when the final version comes out), which basically works as a drum pad, selecting which pad my keys play and also play, pause etc. I think it works great, and recording hardware synths(one of which is also my midi keys) is no problem.
Maschine works great too, and you dont have to hack it due to the really good controller editor program. Hook midi keys to maschines midi in, maschines midi out to ipad, put maschine to midi mode and magix
But do you need a desktop/laptop computer right? Midi keys is a translator program?
? I just downloaded and installed it on a PC machine yesterday, worked great.
I thought it was an app. Obviously I've never needed it, at least yet, but when I went hunting, I assumed it was a glorious vestige of the past!
Too funny. Mea culpa.
I guess @ToMess meant hooping a simple midi key controller not app.
The problem with maschine is that it does not support renaming the midi CC , so it will be just a normal stupid ( this is 2017) midi controller where the parameters of e.g. 'Filter' show as ' midi CC 74' . Also I don't think it can be programmed to follow different pages and update the display accordingly.
I searched for Ableton Push again and realized that the screen does not communicate via midi messages ( trigger finger pro could be programmed to show custom text via midi sysex, but really complicated ) , so the chances are zero for iOS .
Ideally some day a true midi controller will come with OSC / midi support for showing the parameters name. But the devs must also supporti such a controller
The real problem of Maschine (and mostly NI hardware) is that they call "midi mode" which is a driver on the desktop side but nothing truly implemented in their firmware (which are custom HID to allow their advanced features not so easy to implement with plain Midi)
About implementing OSC and so in the apps... well it was possible since time ago but there is not so much interest on it. Brands usually go for custom protocols with their own hardware or class compliance (Midi APIs). It should be some kind of initiative for OSC adoption as AB3 is doing with Midi interconnection and my gut says "it doesn't worth the effort".
So the more probably (or painless) should be a combination of translator apps (for transform regular midi controllers) or dedicated and open platform to build your own. There are some in this field (usually become abandon hardware) but maybe Raspi (or bela.io) could be the "glue" for non-coders (since these let code them with pd which is more suitable for musicians than c++/python)
I will finish my disertation with some links for those ~brave of you~

Ot Ps: after years researching in this field I came an step backwards (since I never really learnt to code prorperly) and simply "circuit bend/hack" regular hardware instead try to reinvent the wheel. It's easy and cheaper (from money point of view; if you put all the externalized cost then you will not buy anything never more and just start crying under your bed).![:naughty: :naughty:](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/naughty.png)
That's why asked @kobamoto about shape/functionality and "over" actual hardware instead "dreaming big"; to maybe find something I can help to build by ourselves. Everyday goes I feel the launchcontrol pro more near
Example:
my collage work is not publicly palatable but all I would do is basically cut down the number of faders on your design to 4, and add an 16pad drummed section that mirrored bm3 on the right side of the faders, and I would keep your launchpad style buttons on the bottom but have 4 rows of 16 each...... and I would keep the knobs above the faders like you have, and I would really rather have faders than touch strips..... but it would be cool to have maybe 1 touch strip somewhere n the unit, I probably wouldn't care where as long as everything else is as I described.... maybe a good place would be actually on the very left hand side of the unit so that you could anchor your hand on the face of the unit and rub the strip with your middle finger
You give a new old idea... in my design it's possible to add 2 touch strips (softpot ie) so it could be possible (and removing the 5 faders from mine give us another 5 analog signals for joysticks and so... an XY pad will require more work but not impossible neither even. I recomend a nanopad or vestax for these stuff)...
... from there remove without problem... add more buttons and functionalities will require merge with other controller which could be possible of course but step secuencing cappability should be ready in the app too.
When I have some time I will try to collage a bit more![ ](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
oh man how could I forget about x/y pads.... go Dubby go!
I think the problem is getting to be able to keep it small and un noticeable like the launchpad mini or the mini ipad
I meant a physical midi keyboard, not app.
If you are mapping some cc knob to bm3, you map it to a a knob in bm3 and that knob can be assigned to different cc's. So being able to rename those wouldnt do much good. The older maschine would be perfect controller for bm3 imo. And im saying this as someone who uses other native instruments controller with the app and someone who has had an maschine mki next to my ipad for a few weeks and me pondering if i should buy it just for this app.
Push is REALLY hard to hack, and you basically need to know how to code the thing yourself, you might find some bits of code here and there to get it to do certain things, but you are pretty much on your own hacking it. I had push1 before and basically came to the conclusion that, because im not an expert on programming and cba to learn programming, i decided not to try and hack it, even tho i would had wanted it very much.
Also you would need to run the midi of push through computer first, and if you were doing that, i would rather just use it with ableton and send the midi to ipad instead, since you can use the drum and sample sequencers, scale mode etc that way.
I dont know what this is about, but because ipad responds normally to midi from native instruments controllers, midi mode is easily accessible, and the controller editor software is top notch. So i dont see a problem here. Care to elaborate?
Native instrument controllers aren't plug and play midi. They actually need drivers for midi mode. An example of this is my traktor Z1. It works fine with the traktor iOS app since it's made my native instruments and uses it's hid mode. But for literally everything else on iOS the z1 is just a soundcard. No midi sent from any of it's knobs or faders.
Yea you need to have it hooked on computer to send midi out from the midi ports. But you dont have to run any software on the computer, so the only problem is that you need to have its usb on computer. But yea its a problem when you have a controller with no midi ports(i use traktor f1 on my ipad), but even without midi ports, still its not more complicated than having it on computer and routing midi via program like midipipe from computer to ipad.
The whole point of iOS for a lot of us is to use it independent from a computer. So the native instrument controllers are quite redundant in this regard. Meanwhile the launchpad pro and the launch control Xl work with just a USB hub and the USB 3 cck. That too running off a battery bank meaning making beats on a beach if one wants to. Looking forward to using these two with Bm3 when it finally releases![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
True, but personally i dont think its a big deal for me, because i dont have to do anything on the computer(except to set up bluetooth midi and open mipipe). Thats pretty much equal amount of work than setting up iphone or another ipad on the setup. With maschines midi in/out, it would be just having the thing hooked to a computer for it to get power(and it knowing what midi to send).
But yea that is a limitation that is a dealbreaker for some, but not an issue to some.
Some of us haven't x86 computers anymore so yes talking from iOS user POV these aren't really useful.
If I had a computer attached to them I will just use it with their own programs but that's the point... I solo my Mac mini due I only was using Traktor, MainStage and Pages/Keynote... moving near 900€ (ssd upgrade and so) to mix A>B at last so I go for Djay/DjPlayer route first and Launchpad App/Blocs finally (and forgot about shit dj gigs in my area)
With AUM a bunch of Synth and arrangers on my iPad Mini 4 I have more than before for less risk and modular (old iPhone 4 attached to the keytar, not so-old 5S for basic record duties and sampling and the Mini for the rest.
No need for Ableton or logic (I have friends who could help me if I need it), just record on Launchpad app and add vocals later in GarageBand for my demos.
I only carry what I need in each context (and I'm considering buy a behringer mixer with USB player built in...)
:V
I have my trigger finger pro ready. Will set it up when BM3 comes.
