  • There's going to be lots of complaining about it, much of it by me.

  • 11 already?

  • But if i had some wishes i would like all of the things Max23 mentioned and i would like to see skinnable apps.
But also mouse/trackpad input support would be awesome.
It would help me a lot with some apps and especially sequencers to combine some great multi-touch elements with mouse pointer input where it is a lot faster and easy to use.
They always say an iPad will replace my notebook.....c´mon. Prove it!

  • What I'd like, but which Cook and Co probably won't deliver, is a proper file manager, allowing us to back up presets and other work from any app.

  • is everybody on the latest os right now?

My prediction is that there will be massive fear and anxiety and for many months after the release people will flood this forum and the facebook groups with questions "whether it is safe to upgrade yet".

There will also be many unsubstantiated claims of "fast battery drain".

    Indeed.
But i think like last year they will focus on messaging and other iPhone things.
MacOS and also iPad specific things seems to get more and more in the background.
But of course it would be nice to see a bit more "pro" for content creators beside the fremium games market, emoji and social media stuff.
Everytime when i open some updated Logic Pro X included FX/instruments and/or the virtual keyboard it looks like they would be usable as multi-touch apps as well.
Dear Tim, show me the next iPad Pro with Logic Pro on it and i believe you some of the "awesome´s".
But as we know music creation tools (even when they offer a really versatile pro DAW) is not their focus.
Is there still the RAM limitation of AUv3 in iOS?
About the possible dead of 32 bit apps.....i find it a good way because we might see more RAM faster on iOS devices (which is still one of the biggest bottle neck for me).
Of topic: While i´m at it, i really really want to know more about specs when they announce them like amount of RAM, cores, clock speed etc. without having to wait for benchmarks and stuff.
Stop treating the pro iOS devices as consumer tools only. WTF........ :#
And last but not least i still wish to run all my iOS apps on my macbook as well. Don´t ask me why. I just want that!

    Finally somebody say it!

It's so tiring!. I just update and avoid the forum for a moth.

Also lots of unsubstantiated "my iPad it's so slow now!"

    • Some new stuff will be added.
    • Some old stuff will be changed to make it seem like more new stuff was added.
    • Performance will be degraded on older devices.
  • Horoscopes, Mine Sweeper

+1 Probably the main reason why I could never be desktop/laptop free.

I'd also like the new version to fix the rotation bug, and not hit performance like most updates do, but again neither of those things will happen.

  • BM3 will be looking good.

  • We'll see on Monday!

I'd love to see a system-wide 'FileProvider' that makes every apps 'Documents' folder available thru the standard document picker. The iCloud Drive.app could then be used to manage all the files.

Apps that support the document picker could also easily access the files :)

I also hope iOS 'cuts' the iTunes dependency.

iOS could easily 'serve' all apps documents folders using SMB to 'trusted' devices. Instant wireless access using Finder, Windows Explorer to the files stored on the iOS device.

iCloud/Cloud-Services is not the answer or solution to file transfers between iOS and other devices.
(I mean sure it's nice in theory but when we're dealing with multiple GBs of data 'The Cloud' is not practical solution).

And well, iOS could have more transparent communication with 'other' mobile OS's too...

Your post are always really specific, jajaja

As for the iTunes dependency I suppose our experience it's based on the apps we use or something because I have never connected my iPad Pro (both models) to a PC, neither my iPhone 7. In fact the last time i connected an iOS device to a PC the device in question still had the 30 pin connector.

What are you doing that requires iTunes file transfers?

Mostly full backups and restores of the iOS devices when needed.
Some apps also have very limited export functions and rely on iTunes File-Sharing.

iFunBox is needed to do 'cleanup' for apps that do not provide built-in deletion of created files etc. etc.
(Some apps leave zip-files in the invisible inbox folder when they extract the files and there is no way other than iFunBox to delete the zip-files).

It's also a fast way to batch-transfer files from the desktop to the iOS device. The 'cable' is faster than a 1GB 802.1ac network.

I'm not a huge fan of cloud-services for file transfers. It makes absolutely no sense to push a file to the internet (DropBox etc.) only to bring it back to a device that is in close proximity (like <1 meter).

So what would make sense here is that 'trusted' iOS devices that are near each other could transparently view each others files and share them if needed... iCloud Drive app already has quite good file-management features so I don't see why it could not be expanded.

On Monday and during the next week we'll get more information on how things shape up to be :)

  • I have an iPad Air 2 which I do not plan on updating to iOS 11.
My question is - since all of my current apps are opperating correctly, should I stop updating my apps as well?

Yepp, and if we take Gadget as an example. The 'Live Export' is either DropBox or iTunes.
Other exports can be done to AudioShare.

Also if you wan't to batch-import samples into Gadget it has to be done via iTunes.
(With proper Document Picker support folder import from Audioshare would have been easy!).

My Air 2 will get the iOS11 update as soon as it's available in 'non beta' form...

  • Why? They still make a shit load of money and get praised.
But yes, as much as i hate windows i see a lot more interesting hardware and software there....but of course multi-touch apps are not there.
    It's the developers/market choice.
