@JohnnyGoodyear Wistful indeed. Appreciated your intro of two bars of musical compassion, leading into two more that penetrate skin. Delightful/home played piano and picture father/son or mother/daughter sat beside each other on the cushioned stool. Child encouraging parent to persevere. An old school family night in during a power cut. No electricity or internet to tempt members away. Ah, the bass... full-toned, commanading authority and ears. Both instruments are real.... aren't they? Exciting to witness your vocals appearing both right and left, connecting themselves effortlessly to the vibe. Inspired shout that, and tight spandex required for the left footer no doubt.
Detect particles of protest here and putting my punk head on, wonder if Poisoned Peach could take an increase in tempo and aggression..... your song I mean, not him. As you are Head of State for Video, everything fits the audio so professionally and throws up many highlights. Mmmm.. live humans/creatures tied up in bags is a trademark. Thanks. Gives me an idea but the water and weights must be within dragging distance.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
@theconnactic Improvised percussion instruments. Is there an app that covers them? Just saying. You'd be inundated with samples on here. Le Creuset saucepan lids sing. Rotavating cockroaches inside a metallic sewer pipe.... sonic heaven and perfect for a speed metal click track. Crazy, interesting time sig conquered by the master. Liking these educational vids and cheers for the free guitar lessons. Pause and rewind are used a lot.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Technically brilliant Dimitri.
@crouchie Well you knew it wasn't going to be an easy first match back in the PL... didn't you? See you on the seafront in early August for an ice cream.
Last months big hitter was always going to be a hard act to follow. 'Welcome' is exceptional, laced with Hacienda substance snorting subtleties. 'Ease' is the appropriate 6am tonic. Chesterfield and time for calm, reflection and a wallet/sex organ damage report Scotty. Bass, muffled explosions, funked fucked hats and incontrovertible keys. Initially would've liked the vocals notched up because you have a striking vocal style that demands volume. But, it brims with quality and character, drifting in and out with the tide and after a few plays, I get what Dimitri says. It does blend well and accentuates this chilled feel. You hold notes beautifully and have the lungs of a free diver. At 2.05... the delivery of 'Your hand' sends shivers. Five minutes? You'll be praying the assistant ref WONT be typing that amount of added time onto his board. Let's put things out of any misery eh Crouchie. Enough will be enough. Stylish sound.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Thank you Mister Punk. I was thinking of childhood scale playing, so very intuitive of you on that front. I think the short simple message is self-explanatory, as are the visuals, but then I always think that I guess. Some songs or bits and pieces are about the big picture, others, like this one, are more like notes in a journal that I expect to come back to in a few years and think ah yes, I remember that day, how wrong I was about what would happen next. Or not. As for bodies in bags (and body bags) they always seem to be the visual metaphor for this life which makes the most sense to me....
This is my second iOS-only song. I used Rytmik Ultimate, Voxsyn and Cubasis.

The vocals is me and my daughter.
@crouchie I love the whole vibe of this piece mate! Feels like a listen by the pool kind of song to me. Your productions always excite my ears! Especially love the tribal drum thingys u use?? Great use of panning on the vocals mate! Nice harmonies! No nits from me mate! Another goodie fo sho!![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
thanks as always, v kind
many thanks for your very kind words as always. i don't always like what i come up with with Gadget, but it is very convenient. i think i just don't always put enough effort in. want to try to increase output so am trying to work things out q quickly then cut and run. that not to say that i would ever have gotten round to turning my vocals up. i just don't do that... ;-) thanks again
It's beautifully done, a great vocal, arrangement is perfect. You really have got a great sound on the vocal. I can never get that sorted (mind u I don't have a voice like yours!). The song itself is not my kind of thing, but I have little discernible taste ;-). I would say say that I think this might be the most professional sounding tune you've done. It really is very good. Well done, brilliant stuff!
Ah. I'm thinking I need to start taking a little more trouble over my vocals. V helpful to hear what you use, thank you
It took me a little while to get in to, and I must say I prefer the grungier elements to the guitar bit that you panned hard left. I like your style, and even more so when everything borders on mono and gives a bit of a claustrophobic intensity. I like the vocal buried in there, feels right with the track. Well done.
As always a high quality tune from you. Very good as always, vocal blends in really well, very skilfully done. Got a lovely summer vibe that would travel well this season. Excellent
I like this, although 15 mins is too sodding long, even for an ambient piece ;-). The last 6 or 7 minutes in particular really drew me in. You've really managed to make the sound big, and the way that the music pulses, or comes up in waves, works very well for me. I really did enjoy it. Excellent.
I absolutely loved that one. It was the visuals with the tune you have made them work fantastically well together. Wonderful mix of absurdity, history, pathos. Definitely my favourite of yours. Love it. (The "Dont Fuck This Up" sign was genius)
Blimey! So many good entries this month, am feeling a bit humbled. This is great Dimitri, I really enjoyed it. I prefer the folky feel, less rocky . It's a lovely, intricate melody and I really got into it. It's great to see how you made it. I'd like a bit of a filter on the video, just to give it a bit more atmosphere. The tune is great and I think this is one of my favourites by you. Great stuff.
This is the first time I posted a track. Not sure about it...but it's an ambient track from a live session recorded in AUM. I tried to do a little experiment by making a video with some footage from my phone.
Thank you Mister Crouch. Fish in a barrel somewhat, Nixon and all, but I don't make history, just write about it etc.
So I've been quiet on the forums lately, been distracted by distractions, but it's my job to keep this thread alive towards the end of the month when everyone else has drifted off, so I'll get my reviews (and hopefully my entry) in before June bows out.
So starting with @LostBoy85:
Very nice, and glad to see you're stating at the more indie end of the spectrum rather than straying into Chris de Burgh territory, the Session Band guitar is a really great choice, nicely understated and goes really perfectly with the tune. The cello also adds a nicely subtle touch of atmosphere and complements the vocal beautifully. I really think this is a great use of the apps you have at your disposal to craft a musical backing for your vocal, and the whole production sounds very polished as a result.
The vocal is excellent of course, and the melodies are nice. One thought that occurred to me was that actually you might want to try it it without the double-tracking, your voice might not need it and the character of your vocal might come through better without it, just a thought.
I also applaud the complete lack of fat: you get straight in there with the vocal and everything revolves around it. Good job.
@trackedout Another slice of beautiful mayhem, and your vocals is getting noticeably better over time - the languid voice contrasts very nicely with the gritty musical backing, and you're almost crooning in this one. I really like the singing, even though I have no idea what you're singing about, but it sounds very sad and weary, like you're just too tired to give a fuck about the state of the world - like a slacker version of Morrissey maybe![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Musically the track barely holds it together, which adds to the whole feel of it, and the intro riff is pretty cool under all those layers of fuzz. As always I really dig the overall sound and atmosphere in your tracks, your chaotic indie sound is very much my bag.
@Love3quency There's some nice sounds and textures in there, and it's very very chilled and relaxing to listen to, but I think for a SOTMC entry it's way too long. You could probably cut it down to 3 minutes without losing much in terms of musical content or ideas, but of course I realise that's not the intent of this tune, it's more of a background music/ambient thing that needs to drift by rather than be analysed in detail (because no one can really concentrate solely on a piece as sparse and slow as this one for 15 minutes uninterrupted).
It's a nice track, and one that would make for great background music for work or meditation, but not one that I can go through with a fine-tooth comb for crits though.
I really, really like this a lot. I love the stark, minimalist techno stomp of it, the way the melody starts to morph in after several minutes. Really, my favourite of the month so far. Lots of automation fiddling going on. Had me mesmerised. Big fan.
I was transfixed. That was brilliant. Has made me feel utterly inadequate mind you, but really seriously impressed. I need to spend some time with that app (oh to have the time!) but I still don't reckon I could come up with something like that. Great tune, fantastic arrangement, and if I could do that I would relentlessly show my friends and family until they didn't speak to me anymore. Marvellous!
Yep, sounding great still. What's the German fella saying? (I get Our European culture obviously)
Don't even kid about cancelling Christmas Santa.
I nearly missed this and I'm bloody glad I didn't. I was blown away by @JohnnyGoodyear and @Alex fox, and now by your contribution. I'm utterly humbled again. This is beautiful, both music and visuals. I love it. Where was the footage from? It looks like more than something you just snapped on the phone. It's wonderfully put together and I am insanely jealous of your abilities (that goes for the rest of them here on this thread too). I am off to sulk and then try to write something to justify my existence. Great stuff, well done!
Really enjoyed this. Nicely done. Only thing I wasn't crazy about was the clap sound.
Very smooth. Of course I would have liked a girl muttering in the background at least, but that's my thing. Like the visuals. Very clear. Iceland? First guess was Ireland but the water looks almost too clean...separate from the music I think some of the earlier cuts seemed a bit sudden, maybe could have used some kind of transition or just had one or two less, but when it works it really works. At around 1.10 when the bass sound comes in the edit is right on the money....good stuff. Look forward to seeing/hearing more from you....
@richardyot Thanks for listening Richard...double tracking?? You've got me double guessing my own song,
but I only had four tracks...guitar,cello, lead vocal and harmony vocal..boom! Or am I misunderstanding u? (Prob the case!) I'm looking forward to your entry mate! Thanks for taking the time to listen. ![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
@crouchie Thank you. I really like the track you posted earlier. I wish I would be able to make something like that. Everything sounds very well together, esp the vocals. Haven't heard much in this style coming from gadget, and it's very inspiring. Regarding the video, to be honest it was my first attempt at editing and filming. It was shot around my place in Reykjavik with a Samsung S6 and edited in Premiere. Post video stabilization and slow motion does wonders. Anyways, post factum, I don't think this experiment was worth the time and effort I spent on it, especially when I have so much to learn on the musical side of things.
@gleandibson Thanks for listening! Hearing it now, I can definitely agree with you.
@JohnnyGoodyear Thank you sir. I have always enjoyed your compositions and I very much appreciate your feedback! Well guessed.
This song is a live jam I created using Ampify’s Groovebox and Blocs apps on an iPad Pro 10.5. Groovebox provided most of the sounds initially, including the drums, lead, and dubby bassline. I used Blocs to add the vocal stab and the more distorted bassline, along with a brighter high hat loop to glue the percussion together a bit more.
Both apps were set to be input sources in Audiobus 3, and I used Auria Pro to record the stereo recording of the jam in real-time. Lots of app switching to tweak and mute/unmute things in realtime to flesh out the song structure. Not the most ergonomic way to do things, but it worked. Some slight PSP EQ and Pro-L limiting in Auria Pro afterwards to open things up some, but that’s the only post-processing applied after it was recorded.
