The end of the beginning
Oh dear, that's so many of my apps gone. Very shortsighted of Apple not to make some kind of accommodation.
To be fair to Apple it seems they have tried to be accommodating, they haven't allowed any new Apps that didn't support 64bit chips since Feb 2015 and haven't allowed any Apps to update with out 64bit support since June 2015.
In regards to the 'gone' apps I guess you have 2 options, don't upgrade to ios11 or buy an old ipad4 just to keep your legacy apps on.
Yeah, it had to happen and to be fair to Apple, they have given fair warning in my opinion.
some stuff I have on my Air 2 is not only 32bit but all the way gone from purchases, true legacy abandoned soft like the Sound Trend stuff. I don't have copies on pc, is it possible to pull these off of the device onto pc? (I could move em onto my old device, then...)
Yay for sound trend, still hiding on my ipad1 ....
On the iMazing web site they have a review from someone which says
"Good way to transfer apps which are no longer in icloud.
by Robert
I transferred a game app Lunarmodule3D no longer available in the App Store from my old iPhone 5 to a new iPhone 6 S. Very pleased it worked. The promotional literature on their (iMazing.com) website seem valid."
Not tried it myself though.
I fully understand their move. Every iOS device since 2015 has essentially been lugging around two complete operating systems, eating up our storage and bandwidth and consuming development/maintenance resources at Apple - for an ever decreasing number of mostly irrelevant apps (old games, etc.). Cutting off ancient, unmaintained apps will save lots of wasted resources, both on our ends and on theirs.
If any of your apps are still 32 bit, it was a conscious decision of the developer to not provide continued support. Apple have given a 2+ year grace period, which seems more than fair.
I think I'll have a little ceremony when I at last delete Alchemy.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
(Though, if I'm honest with myself, I transitioned to an 'Integrated, AU or Bust' workflow months ago, and the only thing keeping it my iPad has been nostalgia and regret...)
Yep I've got iPad 1 already loaded with some gems, but the ST ones are only on Air2 - no pc backup. can they be moved off Air 2, onto pc, then onto the iPad 1?
You posted again as I was editing....... but I think iMazing might do that
Looking at the site further I've changed my mind, looks like you could up to ios8 but since then you can only transfer the data rather than a .ipa file.
It's sad, but also totally inevitable. So much of the reported sales decline of new iPads really has nothing to do with loss in interest or lost sales to competitors - it's just that the market became saturated with users who already have one version of iPad, and for the vast majority of web browsing, FaceTime, music, etc. uses, even a 5-year old iPad probably still works "well enough".
The sad part is that a phaseout like this has disproportionate effects on music app users, since a lot of us bought apps in that "Golden Age of AudioBus" from 2012 to 2015 either hoping or expecting to use those apps for many years to come. That's different than the person who puts money into Candy Crush or some photo editing app...I think there's an expectation there that the investment there is for squarely contemporaneous benefit, since some new game or app inevitably comes along to replace it. Music apps (and hardware) aren't like that. A musical instrument "invented" or "released" in 1982 is still of value to someone today, provided it's kept in proper working order.
There's been many discussions on this forum about the inevitability that many of these app purchases would be "bricked" by future iOS changes or other modifications to the hardware. We didn't predict the 32-to-64-bit thing, per se, but it's basically an example of exactly what we thought might happen. Fortunately, I'm seeing a good number of "old" apps getting updated, and I do have a 2011 iPad2 on iOS8 or something like that to use with some of them.
Impaktor just updated to 64
Not on my iPhone. He also promised much but don´t deliver.
So what´s up with Beepstreet?
Well, at least the hard deadline may light a fire under some butts to get it done in time. Hope i dont have to buy csspectral again heh
Plug the Air 2 into your PC, then in iTunes click File -> Devices -> Transfer Purchases
I think that only worked till iOS 8 ...
Agreed, order of operations would dictate that pitchforks and torches precede tears.![ ](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I agree in general but maybe he then should stop promising things he will never do.
I still wish him all the luck but he lost my trust a bit.
There are far more reliable developers out there.
I'm surprised Apple didn't go up to 65 bit this year.
Too much features at the same time.....hold on. They need something for the next iPads....coming this fall!
They already turned it up to 11. The audience probably couldn't take much more.
The worst part is that the developers (maybe not immediately but definitely pretty soon) will stop releasing 32bit versions, so no new features, no bug fixes for the owners of the old devices. Some apps are already 64bit only. Well, we knew it was coming
I will be keeping my battle tested iPad 2. I still have a lot of uses for it. It can be used as a midi sequencer, a control surface, etc. Most synth and all-in-one apps like Caustic still work pretty well. I think I'm gonna buy some other apps (like Nanostudio) that don't need a faster device.
Also, my iPad 2 is in a protective waterproof case and I'm not afraid to take it with me into the wild. It has offline maps, books, music, some useful apps, etc - everything I may need when hiking. Can't see myself bringing a thousand dollar iPad Pro into that environment, it will stay safe at home![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Any idea if Sampler is 64 bit?
Goodbye, Nanostudio also... At least version 2 is in progress, and that should be 64bit.
