Just want make sure I haven't missed it, there's currently no way to chain patterns together into a timeline to make a song...correct?

Correct, though they have already said that will be coming in an update.

I like the design of this app. It's easy to pick up and get something going without any fuss at all. It's got good connectivity so I can muck with it's output in AUM/AuriaPro, or output a quick loop to mess around in with something else.

It's very intuitive and fun. It's got link, etc. What you get for free with this one is great!

I likely wouldn't pony up $15 for all the IAPs, but if there's a sale at some point, or after I see how the app evolves... I might pick up a couple.

Thanks for the excellent offering @studioamplify and I'm looking forward to seeing how this one develops. :)

Studio amplify had nothing to do with this FYI. It's the blocs guys changed their name to Ampify minus the L. I guess this is the moment when we ran out of cool sounding audio terms to name things.

A bit like band names, every time I think of a good one, however obscure, it's already being used. That's why I settled for Horse Gas, it was the only one left - probably due to the many equinine flatulance results that crop up when searching on the web.

You're wrong, Horse Gas wasn't the only one left, searching soundcloud, it appears "Equine Flatulence" is also available (but not for long!)

I had the same thought about domain names when Spotify was launched, now it's a household name.

  • I think this app has a lot of appeal because it was made by musicians for musicians, just like KRFT and its great developers, this app has a wonderful responsive team.

Yeah the synths sound REALLY GOOD.
    1. Sections/song mode. Please different sounds per section.
    2. Automation
    3. User synth presets

Plus three and in that order.

  • Here's a short quick example of how fast it would be to create a song's backing track with this app with the ability to play chords via another controller app such as Navichord. I recorded this in realtime while Navichord on iPhone SE, played the chord progression.

I could have recorded a melody over this short backing clip, but left it for your imagination. This is such a huge opportunity for @AmpifyxNovation but again different strokes for different folks. I do believe all the above mentioned should come first, like automation, midi in or out, but over all, someday, an arranger module would be so amazing for this app!

Groovebox & Navichord AB3 to AUM MM4C at USA by MusicMan4Christ on #SoundCloud

  • Forgot to mention in the sample audio clip, imagine if while the Piano being played by Navichord was recognized in realtime by Groovebox's synth modules , bass modules, imagine how much easier it would be to build the flesh and bones of a song??

  • Anyone know if there's a way to reorganize the modules on main screen on iPhone??

Not that I am aware of, same on iPad, it would be handy

  • I experimented with exporting project files, but it appears the delay settings in Poly-8 are ignored in the export. Is this by design or a bug?

  • There's a bug on iphone 7 plus I haven't seen mentioned. The note names on the grid enlarge as you scroll, to the point it covers the entite screen

Yes same bug is on iPad. It's related to bold fonts set in accessibility

I can't stress this enough: parameter automation. We want to turn those knobs and have the turning played back. Am I the only one? This feature would make it a killer app. Because everything else is there for the groovebox angle, beautiful interface. But automation knocks it out of the park

Rest assured that I am furiously taking notes from every post, but also that many of these things mentioned are already on our list. We can't promise anything specific yet but we really appreciate the feedback!

One thing should be said about this team: they do listen. Which is what we all do as musickers, but it’s nice when it comes from a group of people developing cool software.
Of course, there are people in this forum who still think that the team still isn’t responsive enough. But that’s probably because, as a group, we’re pretty impatient. If you compare the rate of change in Blocs Wave or Launchpad with much of the other musicking apps out there, you have to admit that it’s way quicker. They have yet to implement your favourite wishlist item? Fair enough. But these people aren’t standing still. And they do pay close attention to what musickers are saying.
Much of the same can be said about the hardware side of Novation. Been thinking about the Circuit for a little while, hoping they’d release a model which would fit my needs. They haven’t, and that’s fine. But their firmware upgrades and new releases are quite impressive.
And since people have been comparing Groovebox with the Circuit hardware (the way we could compare the Launchpad app to the hardware version?), some might expect (or wish for) a tighter integration, at some point in time.

To me, there’s a broader story, here. On one hand, we love our indie developers, here. As we should. And we strongly support them, to the point of buying apps as donations (iOS 11 might make it easier to make actual donations).
Then we discuss those very big manufacturers, several of whom have been bought up (by inMusic, say). In this bunch, Korg holds a special place in our midst, for a variety of reasons. AFAICT, they don’t belong to a holding company and there’s some continuity in their work. The Gadget line might be the biggest iOS musicking play, by some measure. Much of it is software emulation of well-known hardware products or products which complement one another in a rather narrow way.
(Propellerhead/Allihoopa is a different story. Still intriguing, but not as compelling for most forum members, it sounds like.)

There are people at companies like Ampify/Blocs/Novation/Focusrite and ROLI who do something different from either big corporations or small indie iOS developers. Might even be a British thing. They’re bringing out apps which complement hardware offerings in some ways, but also go in new directions.
We don’t necessarily discuss ROLI’s apps much but the fact that the company owns JUCE really fascinates me (especially given the iOS apps built in JUCE). In the ROLI case, the apps are rather tightly integrated with the hardware, and it’s almost an Apple kind of move to release free apps which help you sell hardware while providing much-needed support for users of your hardware.
The relationship between Ampify and Novation sounds rather different and the results are quite neat. Despite the use of names like “groovebox” and “launchpad”, those apps are neither emulations of the hardware versions nor direct complements to them. Clever thing is, the three main Ampify apps can make for a very interesting workflow, especially once Groovebox can export to Blocs Wave and/or Launchpad. (Wish Groovebox could export MIDI files, allow for automation and, most importantly, take full MIDI in with MIDI learn. But that’s my wishlist.)
Besides, this team’s members really grok the IAP game. Some may disagree with the pricing strategy or wish more things were bundled in an app from the start. But you got to admit that this model is likely to be rather successful for a while. (Until something else comes along, but that team is likely nimble enough to “pivot” easily when that time comes.)

In other words, kudos to the @AmpifyxNovation team for doing something others aren’t doing. Yet.

  • question - if I purchase the additional IAP soundpack/soundsets for the synths - but have not purchased the IAP to unlock the synth features ... the purchased synth presets will still work? Just wouldn't be able to edit them in the synths?

I really like the app and have almost pulled the trigger on the full IAP packs ... but I think I'm gonna save my money for BM3 sale release for now, and maybe get the Groovebox iaps a few months down the road when they have some kind of sale on them.

yes the presets will work even if you haven't unlocked the synth. :)

    Nice !! :)

  • Went to download, requires iOS 10, don't think this app is the one to get me to upgrade from iOS 9.3.5 yet...

Will wait to see how the feature list fleshes out, with an eye toward automation, MIDI in, MIDI export, and preset saving for synths

  • @AmpifyxNovation Can we get the notes showing in sequencer to only show notes in the chosen scale? And a cool feature I wished for tonight - it'd be great if when I switched the scale mode in Groovebox - the scale mode switched in Blocs too! Don't know if that's even possible ...

Definitely a bug -- we'll look into it! Thanks for pointing it out.

  • More groovebox wishlists:

    • While the Pattern Edit window is open (New Pattern, Double Pattern length, halve pattern length), the knobs on the instruments panel don't work. I like tweaking things while trying new patterns, would be great if they remained active.

    • Undo! For those moments when I realized that WAIT, that random pattern I had two patterns ago really WAS the ideal one.

    • The record button is so small when there's all that wasted space up near the play/stop button (on the iPad version anyway).

Very reasonable. Also. RECORD ON INPUT. Should always be an option in these types of deals in my opinion.

    Hey @realdavidai
We're just checking that you want the option to 'Keep reverb and delay tails' on exporting of a loop.

@AmpifyxNovation option to keep tail would be good - checkbox or something.

Yes still would like this option

  • Ditto, that would be great. Or an option like Live has to have delay tails carry over to the beginning of a looped file when you export.

Also, how can I transfer Groovebox project between iOS devices? Not the audio renders, but the actual project files?

    Yes :)...

Also Dry...so i can use the Delay in Groovebox while building the loops, but then use the Delay in LP instead once I get the loops there, but to still have the delay in GB for reference or for when i am making changes to the loops in GB :)

....Ableton has that ability ? D: I need to do some research.

Also. Just like Blocs and launchpad, Groovebox has zero ability to backup or transfer it's projects. It's the main reason I havebeen harping on about file management but it keeps falling on deaf ears :/

For now just export the stems and ableton projects. I use Blocs as a temporary repository.

  • Oh well, I'll add it to my wishlist then :)

  • I have one question,

WILL THE LAUNCHKEY APP EVER GET AN UPGRADE?
