I’m buying beatmaker. Of course I am. But deep down, I still just want gadget to have iaa and AU support. Gadget is still just lightyears ahead of everyone else in some ways.

Amen - I rally want Gadget to fully support AudioBus3

AND...... finally fix this silly bug where if you have two or more KORG Bluetooth keyboard devices it always ends up switching to EASY mode. When there are TWO keyboards connected it makes sense that one would want to MANUALLY select which instrument in gadget gets it..

    but... off topic... sorry !

Gadget 3 was the worst launch ever. But we survived it.

LOL - yup. Pretty much. Gadget needs to support AB3. Period.

Nah, It might be Akai suing them for making a $20 app that outperforms the MPC Live :D

mpc live 2.0 uses elastic pro as well as all of the others, bm on /v3 isn't there just yet but on it's way. the sequencers are still not comparable.

  • just had my first crash smh

Did it crash when you went to the sound store. That's what happened to me but I blame that on the store not updating.

It's a matter of preference here i guess. Personally I could not stand the MPC Live when I tried it in a music-store, everything just feels so 'backwards' compared to how my brain works.

So far I'm gonna go with mpc 2.0. Haven't really dove in BM3 enough yet.

  • I couldn't say one is better than the other cause they are sooo different.
I'd have to just go feature by feature.... as far as time stretching goes... they use the same kind but the 2.0 software goes up to elastic pro, bm3 goes up to elastic v3 efficient I believe and I also believe they are contemplating upgrading that at some point

the sequencers are a whole other story

Well since the mpc has not timestretching in standalone mode (basic feature IMO), not AU, not sidechain... and are way expensive than, let's say new iPad or iPad pro 1st gen second hand based setup (includding midi controller, cck, audio interface and hub)...
it still depends on personal taste, mine is with @Samu

Yes and Gadget sequencer is still in a very infantile state as well. We need to be able to loop multiple scenes and set global preferences, like how many bars when creating a new scene. Also I can't stand the default settings for new Gadgets, the scale, chord and preset settings. Gadget is not a toy but it's presented like one. Korg has shown a commitment to future development by introducing it to Mac, it's time they got into the proper DAW mindset, giving users more control with settings, including the ones you mention. Very off topic but important nonetheless!!

I think we agree as thats the first thing I said....
but if you go feature by feature and compare ratio of cost you'd have to include all of the I/o on the mpc live and their capabilities which you didn't in your comparison, things like external usb drives, thumb drives, midi controller (no adapter needed), several USB ports , sd port, and several audio outs
put that stuff on your iPad and the cost would increase exponentially

  • Oh cool, Puremagnetik samples!

  • Ima point out for anyone who does 432 music, u can pitch each sample down easy peezy -32 cents, global tuning will be nice some day but this is workable for now

  • so what are the iaps?

    so what are the iaps?

You get a free pack and the others are about 5 bucks each. A bit generic but a good variety of starter materials.

You are counting your desktop/laptop to take timestretching and so on?

Mpclive (over 999$) + computer of your choice vs what I said and then it's a fair "side2side" until mpc standalones could timestretch/sidechain or use AU... from specs POV. From workflow as I said a matter of taste.

You can buy even a mpc reinassence and use it and not go so far. The big one has all you described, add the cck and that's it. With focusrite scarlett series you can even get more and better converters than Numark/akai or you can go cheaper with the akai eie non pro (or novation audiohub) and get hub for around 100€ second hand...

Messy? Sure but more modular too. Then add controller of your choice, one usb2lightning pendrive (if you don't want to use dropbox) and that's it.

  • Well, what’s the impressions so far? How does it compare to Auria or Cubasis? Or is it a totally different beast?

  • Finally...
    after waiting since midnight lol

  • quick question: sample start cannot be modulated or assigned to midi or macro, or can it?

    Waiting since March...

  • If you guys wants more samples, first buy from Intua, then, extract the high quality samples from Yamaha SynthBook... Great stuff!

I might bin both apps. Seriously. The sampler is amazing. Also. This is basically an alternate universe ableton live + Mpc mashup. Whatever it lacks in terms of sequencing since it has link you can supplement it via modstep, midiSTEPs, fugue machine, etc.

  • Cool! Does it have warp markers and transient detection?
