Hmm, looks like the tide is turning... anyone with an iPad 3 update yet?
i did on iPad 4.No Problems so far but couldn't test much.Cubasis,Audiobus and a bunch of (short)tested synths all running fine...
So far so good... iPad4. Not as rough a ride as expected, by any means. I'm not performing live, the developers have been updating... not afraid to give it a shot. I'm digging the OS too.
I updated iPhone and Ipad4 after reading all your posts with no horror stories, and aside from everything looking cheap and ugly, it's all working fine, maybe even a little faster than before. I wonder if things process faster because the graphics are cheaper and uglier looking?
One thing that really helps is using a darker background.
@mgmg4871 I appreciate your sarcastic sympathy, but I miss IOS6 already. Hopefully IAA will sound so good I won't care what it looks like. I also place a lot of faith in Sebastian and any comments he makes, so I wonder what he saw in his IOS7 testing that made him so apprehensive in his warnings to us all?

From what I have seen so far, in screenies and videos, I don't like the new minimalistic look. Too flat and business-like. Whatever happened to user-configurable fonts, widgets and skins? I hate the small folder windows too.
But otherwise, the new features seem compelling, especially IAA of course! With work-arounds for most existing issues, I will probably update my iPad4 today...
I think the smaller folder windows add to the flow of depth moving back and forth between layers/levels on your screen.
@DaveMagoo Does that mean you can now have folders within folders? That would be an improvement!
No folder inside a folder...
No, it basically zooms in to the selected folder so from the home screen you see 9 icons in a folder as in ios 6 but when you select the folder it zooms in to show the 9 app icons full size and you swipe left to see the rest of the content within the folder, 9 per page.
Again I think it's more to do with the layering apple has gone for in ios7.
What....no I meant.. Lol I thought you were asking so I was answering
@NoiseHorse There was no sarcasm intended. It was something I did to improve the look of the icons.
Update completed. Haven't done much music stuff yet, played around with settings and still looking for a wallpaper that plays well with the flat looks.
Gotta say I preferred the older set up with folders where the screen splits to show as many icons as possible. I also don't like it that there are no rims or shadows around the icons in general.
No, it's features, not the looks that will have to win me over.
i have to say that i really like the new look, maybe i'm the only one i hate skeuomorphism on an electronic device. And I'm not talking about the app icons, there's so much more...the parallax effect looks awesome when you move the device, anything else than flat.Reminds me of the 3D effect of a Nintendo 3DS.I also dig the transparency overall, although i had to get used to it.Could be a little more contrast here and there but not bad for a version zero imo...of course, all of that doesn't matter so let's talk about the important things again:music
regarding folders:i'm pretty sure we will see more apps on one page in the future. They just rushed the release and took the folder management from the iPhone.
Has anyone had the chance to test an iPad 2 through an Alesis iO Dock after the iOS 7 update?
The iO Dock is pretty much the center of my iOS integration with my home studio right now ~ I would hate to break it with iOS 7 and not be able to go back...
Thanks!
You're not the only one @Crabman; I love the new look. I enjoy the flat colours a lot, and the new navigation. I've only updated an old iPhone 4 though, not my iPad 2 yet, so I don't know what it'll be like on the bigger screen. I'll know in a few days.
Sure, there is some stuff I like too, such as the translucency effects and the parallax effect, but the latter only shows when you're moving the device. I do agree the coloring looks fresher too now.
Depth doesn't have to mean skeuomorphism. A subtle beveling on the edges of icons, or a slight shadow would have lifted them nicely above the background. It doesn't have to be all stitched leather and chrome or gloss effects to make things stand out just that little bit better...
Of course, there's no accounting for tastes, and I guess there'll be another new look in a few years time...I just hope it won't neon! ;-p
I like the new look a lot too. I'm still hesitant to upgrade my iPad, but I REALLY like the new multitasking. The new mail client has some great updates as well as the browser, and I actually do still use my iPad occasionally for stuff other than music creation, so those will be nice additions. I was also thrilled with the new folder setup. It was nice to be able to see three more icons than we can see in an opened folder now, but the tradeoff of not having to have 4 seperate music folders is one I welcome.
I think the big bug that everyone was throwing out warnings about iOS7 was the audio interruption thing where an app can crash if something interrupts it like a phone call. Less of a problem on an iPad I've read, but I haven't experienced it on my phone yet. I could be totally wrong there, but that's been my impression from what I've read so far.
Oh I'm so tempted to upgrade my iPad 4...
No problems with an iPad 3 wifi only. Ran Animoog no issues. Steinberg says on their forum iOS 7 compatibility and inter app audio are not synonyms, IAA is not in Cubasis 1.6 but will come later.
It sounds like the jump isn't too bad. I might make the leap today on my ipad 4. As long as I can still used beatmaker 2 then I'll be happy with it.
@CPRophy Yes, the Audiobus record trigger for AudioShare got broken by iOS7, but I have fixed it in my current version, which will be submitted soon! I also fixed another bug that crept in: download from dropbox stopped working if you've used the built-in web browser first.
Before making the jump, think carefully--remember ACP.... I'm holding off until 7.0.1 and ACP are fixed...especially ACP...
I've still been using General ACP but of course not all apps support that. I haven't had a chance to mess a whole bunch in regards to music but haven't had any major issues
Decided to take the plunge with my iPad 2. Was worried at first because it was very sluggish for a couple of minutes. It's working fine now. Nice and smooth. Just my browser (Dolphin) being a bit slow at times.
I haven't had time to test out many of my music making apps, but I've. Briefly played with Cubasis, Animoog, Galileo, Sunrizer, Magellan and TC-11, and they're all working fine. Geosynth seems to be rejecting audiobus though. No matter how I load it up, even if I have audiobus running but haven't put Geosynth in any slot, Geosynth tells me there was an optimization problem (or something like that) with audiobus, and disables it. Samplewiz crashed when I first loaded it into the input slot, but worked after that. Geosynth works on its own just fine, and with background audio coming in from other apps.
Overall the OS looks good to me and is fluid and working fine.
Just upgraded my iPad4 to iOS 7. Upgrade itself went flawlessly. Thus far the only problem I've encountered was with iMini, which produced an unpleasant digital static, like digital clipping, on top of each patch. Like many of the other appoholics here, I have more than dozens of music apps still to try, so I'll report back any other issues. Thus far have had success with Thor, Auria, Notion, and Nave.
Anyone notice any problems using alchemy, BM2 and audiobus?
Ios7 and iphone5
Just tried it and there is a red line at top of alchemy screen. It will play keyboard and pads but the red line blocks the library sound selection
You're not the only one. Guess a fix will come.
