Seems like StepPolyArp is working great as an arp in AB3..

    Edit.
Seem like StepolyArp is working** just as **great in AB3..

  • I’ve been looking into SPA but i’m Wondering if it would be too much for my needs. For now, i just tweak the Bass Arps in Addictive Pro synth and use that, so that i at least get a feel of the Bass as I play through the song. Later, I’ll will go back and tweak the Bass track or even re record it if needed.

Just was messing with it... It pretty powerul as an insert in AB3.. Probability, snapshots, etc.. now puts it as a go-to tool.. and had it all this time...
    Edit ...along with Navichord...
    Wow.. sweet...

  • Can it receive midi chord data from Navichord and arppegiate it?

    Yes

  • Ok cool! Just found out that even if I had my headphones on, IOS would have recorded the apps sound but since I had enabled the mic recording feature, it recorded from the mic instead. I might redo the video.

Here’s a link for those that wanna know how to setup for IOS screen recording:

    https://ios.gadgethacks.com/how-to/record-your-iphones-screen-with-audio-ios-11-no-jailbreak-computer-needed-0177940/

  • I think I’m gonna get SPA then, cause I wanna send some really nice Arp to Groovebox but I could get anything to send to it.

    Yes

  • I also realized that enabling measurement mode in AB3 is what didn’t allow me to record the in app Audio even with the headphones on and mic turned off. Man was gonna record a better video but the train went by too fast. Long day at work. :)

I have the beta, but it's telling me in the App Store that I have to purchase it? I should mention i already purchased it prior to installing the beta

AppStore should not charge you again. Sometimes it shows "BUY", but when you proceed it says the update is free because you already own it. AppStore version has some difference with the latest beta, but it is minor.

  • @OscarSouth, @Kühl, thanks for the inputs. I think I could add jazz symbols at some point. Noted down.

Guys for those of you that still don’t have Navichord, take a listen to the built in Choir sound! It’s really awesome especially going through the amazing Audio Damage EOS2 Reverb:

@MusicMan4Christ , big thanks for the video and overall help with the beta.
The choir patch is my favorite!

    Great update!!
Wonder how to play a song sequence automatically from start to finish. It plays 1 section. When tapping next section, it does not play the current section to the end, just current bar, then jumps to next section.
Can sections be repeated for specified number times?
Would like to start "song", play all sections and then stop.

You can loop a section or play the whole song - there is a special button for that next to Play (top left corner), see the screenshot.
When enabled, it would loop current section. You can still launch a new section manually, the change will happen on chord boundary.
When disabled it would play all sections one by one and then stop. Manual section change is possible too.

Thanks for the info and the video! Is it possible to loop the parts and move between them using a MIDI controller?

Yes, you can change sections via MIDI. Loop control is not there yet, but I will add it in the next update. Loop control is available in Audiobus Remote. You can change section there too, chord pads will be updated accordingly.

As a longtime musician, composer in many genres, I’ve come to know the preferable notation among musicians.
JAZZ musicians have the most effectively simple way to notate.
Capital letter for Major (F) small letter for minor key (f) F7 and f7 are major and minor.
Regarding major 7, they only use a delta triangle behind the key.

Small letters for minor chords don't look good to me, besides Navichord is already using small letters for single notes (and capitals for chords).
I will look into other jazz symbols, thanks for mentioning!

  • @Navichord - I also tend to use @OscarSouth chord symbols when writing chord notations by hand for similar reasons. It's the most compact - and Mark Levine is as close to an authority as you'll find in the field, even if I have mixed feelings about his book  There's a lot of variation though and I think most musicians just learn how to read all the variations.

I've never seen the small 'f' for a minor chord though, and I feel that would be terrible. How would I distinguish between a major and a minor 'C'?

    I would read f7 as a dominant 7th. I think most Jazz/pop musicians would.

Well I bought it and it charged me because apparently what I had bought previously was Navichord for iPhone. Now I have purchased Navichord. Sigh

  • @Navichord, after reading about this update I went to the App Store to see why I haven’t received it and found that the iPhone version I bought is not there anymore. The bundle for upgrading to the universal from the iPhone is also gone. Are you abandoning the iPhone version?

  • @OscarSouth said:

    I use these:

    F (major triad)
    Fm (minor triad)
    Fo (dim triad)
    F+ (aug triad)
    F- (minor 7)
    F7 (dom 7)
    F△ (major 7)

Yes - this list reflects my experience too.

Yes, I've removed the iPhone-only version and replaced it with Navichord Lite universal to keep it in sync with iPad.
I only see a small number of purchases for the iPhone version, 99% or people get full Navichord right away.

I admit, the transition didn't go well. I will bring it back for a few days with a clear explanation and give people time to make a decision.

  • Great work, Dennis. Thanks for the update!

  • Firstly - Big Congrats to Denis - for this latest major update to NC.
And thanks for adding Dom7sus13 too.

Looking forward to some of the other suggestions mentioned here in the future too - ( 4 note Major triad chords, order off how MIDI notes get routed out via MIDI ( bass being lowest ) .

Also - i've noticed that if I have changed to inversion-order or octave range of a chord, but then want to just transpose it - change the root, either in-place or after i've copied the chord to a different block - that all the notes switch to a different octave range. things get jumbled up. I think it would be helpful if whenever one uses the ROOT selector to change root on a chord that is currently set up on a pad - that all the note-relationships, interval wise - order wise stay the same and not jumbled up. This can tbh be quite frustrating.

Also i'm getting quite a bit of clicks happening when i press certain buttons - for example the button the switches between PAD mode and chord-matrix mode.

This is on an iPad Air 2 - iOS11 latest update. Standalone.

I’m hearing clicks as a progression moves from chord to chord using the built in sounds. iOS 11.1 Pro 9.7

Now to something maybe controversial, already planned - dunno:

    The Graphical Interface.

It just seems to me that certain buttons have been added over the years - as is common in these things - in evolved fashion. But that now might benefit from being placed in more logical positions.

1 ) the metronome and " ! " Silence all notes button should be placed at the top. these are typical "transport bar" type functions.
    2) the OCTAVE RANGE button for the pads is “hidden” behind the chord-grid-mode. One has to press the “four-squares” icon to enter the chord-grid mode JUST in order to change the OCTAVE range. This is confusing to me ( and a little annoying ) because - for one thing I never use the chord grid at all -
and secondly - If I merely need to alter the chord range via the “C0” button which only gets revealed when I enter chord-grid mode - then this is one extra step one has to take unnecessarily.
Put simply - the OCTAVE-RANGE button should be made available in all modes. And I would suggest - best placed on the left to the first chord-pad in the 16 pads. I get very confused about this. Specially after a few beers or when tired.
    3) The circular “+” symbol button is confusing. It basically serves a kind of copy/past type function. But if might be better to reconsider all the edit type functions, so that there is - for example - some kind of pop up palette - or extra toolbar with all the typical edit functions:

    copy
    paste
    undo
    redo

transpose selected pad up/down by semitone
transpose ALL pads up/down by semitone
transpose selected pad up/down by OCTAVE
transpose ALL pads up/down by OCTAVE

Also - personally - I have - as well as the chord-matrix - no need for the keyboard at the bottom. And would prefer all the screen and GUI focused just on one thing at a time - either the PADS or the GRID. maybe the keyboard could be moved to the GRID ?

Anyway - no doubt controversial and peeps will disagree.
    But theres my tuppeneth..

All great apps encourage a raft of feature requests. Otherwise peeps just don’t use the app.

    :)

Great news on the navichord update tonight - and thanks for the addition of the dom7 category.

One minor change to consider - is maybe upper-casing the first letter of every chord beginning with Major. ( or Maj ) because this is common practice - upper case M for Major lower case m for minor. Such things tend to make reading chords a lot more intuitive.

    Thanks!

    Do you mean the capital M for maj7 , maj9, maj13?
I use this website for reference - they say maj7 is standard name and M7 is non-standard - https://www.scales-chords.com/chord/piano/CM7
Besides, other software also doesn't use capitals for major - http://www.pgmusic.com/tutorial_chordlist.htm

Looks like great software, I’m probably gonna buy it.

Hope this clearifies whatever matter it

I’ve studied jazz bass to masters degree level and played it as part of my living for 10 years, I’ve seen every permutation under the sun but I’ve never seen a chart with small letters for minor and large for major.

There is no real standardisation but ‘The Jazz Theory Book’ by Mark Levine is probably the best text to treat as a benchmark.

    I use these:

    F (major triad)
    Fm (minor triad)
    Fo (dim triad)
    F+ (aug triad)
    F- (minor 7)
    F7 (dom 7)
    F△ (major 7)

There are more but I’ve run out of usable characters..

    **some characters should be superscript

My general logic is to use the minimum amount of characters to transfer the most amount of information with the least ambiguity (and keeping to what’s established in the Levine text as closely as possible).

I agree with your general logic, but this what I hastily drew is kosher in Europe.
Maybe you play in America, I don’t know. Funny actually, I’m trained as a classical guitarist, but studied harmony under a great norwegian double bass player, Bjørn Alterhaug... he’s for sure on YouTube somewhere:)
I’ve also played a lot of jazz... mainly the Hot Club genre.

But anyway sir, I think it’s good practice to write minor chords with a small letter.
If you want you can always write fm instead of just an f... but in practice, sitting in the locker room, feverishly writing a new sequence of chords, efficiently is key, so my belief is that... you may be right, but in practice people shorten things, like in an SMS... so a culture for simpler notation is progressing...
Just my thoughts. However, I took my degree in music science at the university of Trondheim Norway, in the 80ies.
