If they did, I haven't seen it. I take it there's no upgrade path for Werkbench for iPhone since it's been pulled from the appstore?
sweeeet!
There's not, but the iPad (and eventually universal) version of WerkBench will convert your 'loops' and 'sets' folders if you drag them out of the phone version and drop them into WB3 via iTunes filesharing.
Conversion happens automatically when you hit the load button if those folders exist.
Having a great time with the update. Thank you so much for it. Couple of wishes...
A way to arm/disarm the sampler when using Audiobus. Situation: you arm a few steps in the app, switch to another app, want to make sure you're going to sample the correct noise. Currently, you have to switch back to WB, disarm the steps, switch back to the source app... If there was a arm/disarm button on WB's AB panel section, we could set the target steps, disarm and test away, then arm when we're sure.
On that note, I'd absolutely make use of a 'sample to random step(s)' button on the AB panel. Bring the random!
BIGGER importer interface. TBH, I never really used this feature before. Such a great feature! It really easy to record a bunch of things at once and then assign them to steps. It really opens up a different way to make music with WorkBench. Love it.
And a question: is it possible to copy a step to a different pattern? I thought I used to do this but couldn't sort out how.
+1 on the bigger importer interface. My fat fingers mess this up all the time.
I've got a different solution in the works that may solve your issue: giving WerkBench a MIDI keyboard view for triggering other apps and gear. So you'd still have to go to the other app to tweak the sound, but once you're sampling, you can stay in WerkBench and easily trigger sounds and arm steps to at the same time.
Thought about something like that for this last update. My idea was to have the randomize automation buttons be available in Sample and Mute+Copy modes. Sampling random steps in Rec and shuffling the order of steps in Edit/Copy. I like the idea of it being in the AudioBus transport. I'm all for randomness. Will think on that one.
Noted. It is small and could definitely use some kind of pop-out option. On that subject: Have you tried zooming super far in (shortening the loop as you go) until you are looping just a few milliseconds... now drag the bar under the loop markers around and suddenly: GRANULAR/WAVETABLE SYNTHESIS! Drag the loop markers for pitch sweeps and precise tuning. Of course you can do all this while you're sampling.
Yes, grab the step so you have the hovering view under your finger. Switch patterns and drop it wherever.
+1
I'd rather see this than in internal keyboard personally. Triggering notes is one thing, but usually there's a lot of changing presets, tweeking, auditioning, etc in the other app before I have what I want to grab. So, it's Werkbench > Other app > back to Werkbench to arm > back to the app to play the note > back to Werkbench. An internal keyboard would need to be set up properly to send to the other app, adding complexity, and would only save one round-trip in many cases.
With an arm button, you could "pre-arm" the steps with arm turned off, flip over to the other app, get things to your liking, then just hit arm in the AB3 toolbar.
Nice one @syrupcore - agree 100%
@syrupcore @wim ok makes sense! This is what I'm doing: adding a record trigger to the AB panel. By default this will be selected/on and WerkBench will behave as before. You can deselect it to mute WB's input. Re-select and steps will be armed again.
This conversation is why I am so fond of this forum.
Wow, that is fabulous! Sure appreciate the quick response.
Yes, love this!
New app idea! "Workbench Classic".
Same innards, old skin. Reason: so I can run four patterns at once. Would happily pay full price again for this!
smart idea, might apply elsewhere, too
After Link is applied, right?
Or use 2 ipads when Link update is out
Yes re: after LINK cause, LINK.
<$20 for another instance is a lot cheaper than another iPad though!
Or, you know, AU.
Yes nothing stopping full screen AU now I guess
AU could be single screen of steps. Then it would be the same on iPhone. Just saying.
Also happily pay again for AU. Such a fun and inspiring app.
This was one of the first ever apps I picked up, great to see it's getting some new stuff!
Ugh. Pulled from App Store and I had it at one time. Any alternative apps that do what Werkbench did?
I rediscovered this on my old iPad 3 earlier this week! I think Yellofier had a similarly bizarre workflow, but these days I tend to use Koala sampler for sampling household items.
I'm guessing we're going to see increasing apps disappearing as Apple sends out notices of apps not updated for years and the developers decide it's not practical to keep them updated.
Have you checked your purchased apps list to see it is still downloadable? Apps often are even if pulled from the store.
Nothing can do what Werkbench did the way Werkbench did. If it is true, this is a huge loss for iOS musicians...
Too bad. Creative app with the gnarliest icon in iOS land.
It still loads! Very sad to hear it is gone.
I guess I will have to content myself with the notion that the little fella with the megaphone has gone off to live in the Rymdigare universe. It's a not unpleasant thought.
God I hate that icon.
The app is cool though.
Loved it’s art style, a classic app, naked as a jaybird, I hope he returns.
