  • Dear older and more advanced users - do Ipad Musician needs AL10 to make music better?

  • Wavetable is nice, and built-in M4L with enhanced performence is nice. I’m also happy to see that they’ve brought the melodic step sequencer improvements to Push 1.

Overall a nice update I think

Me not since I don’t have x86 computer but probably lots of users will enjoy new features.

  • So is m4l in standard now? If soo I might be tempted

  • Yes it’s melted into Live, not extra download and install anymore.

  • It can handle SysEx - that should be nice. I'd like to see more details on how the Library is reorganized. Groups within Groups will also be fun.

Afraid not! The CDM article is misleading

"Max for Live is more integrated. Bundled in Live, loads at startup."

Ableton.com confirms it's still a suite exclusive, I think giving everybody Max even with a limit for example only 4 devices per set would be a great idea..

Well it could be suite exclusive and be near to full integrated at the same time. The installation package for live 8 had all the features inside only activated by your account limits. It’s easy as look inside the Live.app guts and check what we find. Expect lots of dudes going like CSI as soon as it becomes available.
It should be highly integrated now Ableton bought Cycling’74 and Max7 has a lot of crossed features such open maxforlive devices, transport, timestretching/pitchshifting objects etc.

It was a matter of time and they were doing it since the first version of maxforlive (includding the pluggo drama).

You may be correct but the official description of Live 10 standard doesn't mention the word "Max" anywhere. Would be a strange marketing to integrate Max and not mention it!

It's not free, Max is just loaded in the background now whenever you start Live. Makes loading M4L devices much faster. In fact the whole program loads and closes WAY faster now. Been using Live 10 for some time now, if anyone has any questions fire away and I'll do my best to answer throughout the day.

@Tarekith Thanks for offering to answer questions!

I'm curious about arrangement view, does it feel completely different like when warp markers were changed?

Also anything new with how Link works?

Any idea if there will be a public beta or is it already solid?

If you know anything about Push 1 enhancements that would be great to hear also!

I guess my main question is about how much of an upgrade it feels like at this point. I remember when 9.5 came out and added quite a lot - does this feel like more than an incremental upgrade because of all the workflow changes?

  • Excited about editing multiple midi clips

I'm also curious to see how the new spontaneously record a take without hitting record thing works.

I'm only going by what we already know but it seems to be midi only and only on the currently selected track so it might still be easy enough to lose that idea.

  • Until I try it, I will anticipate it is amazing.

I have not been let down by that company.

They also don't release UNFINISHED products and expect people to use them until they figure out what is wrong.

  • Yes, Capture works with MIDI only, though I don't see the issue with it being only on the selected track or else what would you be playing?

The update feels huge to me, it certainly feels like a new version. The new graphics and fonts can't be underestimated, they make the app look like new again. I can't work in Live 9 anymore, it just feels so much nicer in Live 10. Much faster loading and closing too, and in general things feel a lot snappier.

  • There will be a public beta, and only once Ableton feels it's stable as can be from that will it get a release date. I have not heard of anything new with Link, I have a feeling Moog's announcement about Link v2 was just a typo. I could be wrong though.

As I recall, Live 9 felt like a pretty incremental upgrade compared to the last version of 8, but they spent four and a half years expanding it (at no extra charge to the end user). Even if 10.0 feels incremental compared to 9.7, I think we can trust them to keep expanding it over time.

  • There is definitely a lot more planned for Ableton Live. :)

When i skimmed through the CDM post, capture was the first thing that jumped off the page and my mind included audio in that feature. That function would have been amazing since sometimes I record people playing instruments and the practice take is often much better than when they know it is being recorded!

I am a master at accidentally clicking things that f**k things up so selecting a track by mistake is well within my skillset, especially since I use touchable as well as Push and a nanokontrol simultaneously.

    Great news!

I have a feeling Moog's announcement about Link v2 was just a typo.

Link does what it's supposed to already and does it perfectly so this is probably the case.

Sorry to ask again but in your professional opinion does arrange feel completely different to work in or do the new features fit comfortably on top of the existing workflow?

  • 189 quid for the suite upgrade 9 to 10 seems a bit steep. I think in iOS we are spoilt with innovation. A lot of what has been announcened I find underwhelming. A new wave table synth? Wowsa, a new distortion and echo effect? Oooohhhh. I honestly think that the real innovation in music technology is taking place in mobile and eurorack

  • Ps. I do appreciate that they have a history of big updates within versions so might be a little unfair

Umm, hard to say. If you use a lot of automation then likely it will feel a lot different now that you access your automation mode by hitting "A". The new fade handles on clips are amazing, and having colored clips when they are expanded is great too. The basic workflow in arrange view is more or less identical to Live 9, but there's a lot of little things to speed up the workflow too.

    Hi,
I see audio i/o can be renamed finally, is it available for midi i/o as well?
How is the new sysex handling? Is it by some hidden magic with m4l only - still filtered to/from seq? Can these messages be recorded/played back? Have you tried it with external synths? I believe you are on Mac, have you heard any feedback from Win users regarding controlling external stuff, recalling presets etc.

    Thank you!

I am glad there will be a beta so I can test before deciding. It is very subjective! Some of the new arrangement features do look great and will most likely save me time once I get used to them.

Renaming is for Audio Ins and Outs only. Sysex support is in Max 4 Live and not Live proper, and unfortunately I don't do much with M4L except use the built in effects and synths.

Not sure what you mean about Windows users, but I haven't heard reports of anything different from Mac users.
