still, push2 and ableton are the only reason I'm even still using a computer
Hi @Tarekith 2 more Q's:
Are there still only 6 Slots for Control Surfaces?
Has the Preferences Window been Enlarged so I/O's don't get cut off?
Yes, and I'm not sure what you mean so I'm attaching screenshots of how it is in Live 10 now.
Bummer! Here's what I mean where longer names get cut off:
This update has so many small features that make life easier!
The improvements in file management takes care of a lot of things that have caused me problems in the past. Automatically saving every ten minutes until you have 10 backups while you work is going to be very helpful. Capture is genius, it will 'listen' in the background for 10 minutes to any notes you play on any midi track, you can recall any or all of those as clips.
Maybe this one is more interesting for long time Ableton users? There aren't the usual few big changes, just lots of small but clever refinements. Many are huge timesavers and it looks very snappy in use.
The new effects sound great as does the Wavetable synth, dual cytomic filters!!! Push 1 users get some new stuff, not sure exactly what yet but looking forward to find out. Three little words "chase midi notes" will improve push as a performance controller im thinking. Been watching some of the many videos and can't wait to give it a spin...
@Tarekith Sorry to ask yet another question but I just missed the first wave of public beta, any idea if that will open again soon?
That rings true in my experience in a slightly different way, as I often write nearly complete songs through straight improv; and when I know I’m being recorded, I feel a bit self-conscious at a certain level, where I feel the pressure is on , which I’ve found inhibits me somewhat from letting loose & getting to that inspired place, in the zone .., I often come up with my best work when I’m just freeform jamming alone, off mic, or at least when I forget that I’m being recorded.
Sounds like a useful feature for this, & other situations.
I have no idea on the timing for the beta, but it will definitely be open to more and more people as we go. There will likely be a new round of people accepted in a few days or so.
First thing that strikes me as off is that they don't just plainly state the upgrade price. They talk about 20% off, and free upgrade if your buy 9 today, but apparently existing users have to "log in" to find out their upgrade price. Any other DAW I've ever seen just has the upgrade price clearly stated.
Anyway, apparently the upgrade price for Suite 9 to Suite 10 is $299. ($239 if you buy before release).
I'm still studying the new features, and I haven't researched this thoroughly, but my first impression is that $299 seems a much higher upgrade cost than other DAWs.
The price changes depending on which synths or other add ons you already own, the more packs you buy the more discount too I think. So it really does vary quite a bit and is one reason they are asking people to log in to find out the exact price.
@tarekith - are any of the existing instruments etc able to use the larger window sizes I see on the new ones? Is there any info on how the Sysex works? How do you input it? Can commands be inserted on the timeline, or triggered? Does it handle 14 bit NRPN? Realize you haven’t tested any or all this. Thx for the great feedback
Damn. 299 without pre order for me and I have more expansion packs than I can count.
Same for me and I have an .edu license, so 9 Suite was only 150 more than the upgrade
As of now, none of the other instruments have changed GUIs. A few tweaks here and there, but minor stuff.
Sysex is part of the new Max4live capabilities, not built directly into Live. Not sure on the specifics I'm afraid, Max isn't really my thing.
Don't quote me on the packs counting towards your Live 10 price, that may no longer be the case.
My upgrade says £183, a lot more than I hoped it would be. Definitely will get it at some point but might wait til they have a 30% sale which usually happens once a year at least.
If you sign up to beta test you can use the new one until sometime next year. From browsing earlier I believe max for live owners don't have to get the new suite in order to benefit from the integration. The price difference between upgrades is very small with current discount.
oh cool, yeah might try the beta
@lnikj From ableton's website: Some of Max for Live’s most popular devices have had major upgrades. Drum Synths have been reworked with a complete sound upgrade and a broader sweet spot. Plus the new LFO and other control devices let you modulate up to eight parameters from a single device.

Just got into the beta. Really looking forward to trying it out, particularly with my Push 2!
I don't like working in arrangement view. Its uncomfortable compared to Bitwig for me for some reason. I was hoping for some reworking on the graphic interface, especially in this area. Not enough that I need to upgrade. Hope Max devices will continue to work in 9 for some time!
I'm in also, downloading the installer was super fast..Maybe that's why there is a waiting list? I'm still on push 1, this new version looks like a huge upgrade for Push 2. Enjoy
Big update today! Here's a sample of exciting aspects:
Hi, I have Lite version - will Intro improve my Ableton much?
Here's a handy page to compare: https://www.ableton.com/en/live/compare-editions/
Link is essential.. the transport control makes it mandatory for ALL serious music apps both desktop and tablet...
Thanks.
Nothing about Lite version here
No doubt... here's what I see so far:
Downloading now, glad they have made it optional. I'm curious if iOS developers will get the same Link capabilities in the near future?
Great, trying to hook up a midi sync can kill ones creatively.. and wires do get in the way..
If it don’t Link, it can’t swing... or is that swang?
Too bad Ableton won’t release an IOS Ableton Live version...
