@DefRobot Nice psychedelic atmosphere in this one, and the relatively sparse instrumentation is also refreshing to hear in this age where songs are slathered in layers and layers of stuff.
My main crit would be that the drums feel a bit ponderous - they could do with a little more swing to bring the groove to life.
The playing is great, very tight, and the overall musicianship is excellent.
@gburks I love the buzzing energy of this one, and how your synths sound like guitars - I would have sworn this was a guitar track, some nice sound design there.
Vocals are very good and the overall vibe and catchiness are great. It's a well-structured and well executed song - well done.
Richard, we have the same decorator!
Sorry, but I have not listened to the piece yet. I also will have my comments in for everyone in a few days.
Cheers @richardyot..... Thanks.
Thanks @fattigman.........
Yes, and that's the last time I'll taking one of your recommendations!
Ooops!
I would echo these comments, maybe less reverb as well. I would add that, it's a pretty long track, and there isn't enough going on to hold interest. I looked up at the screen at about the 1:30 mark to see how much was left. This cover is a cool idea, it just needs some more work to make it interesting, IMO. Your voice sounds good, don't be afraid to let us hear it!
I like the song, it reminded me of The Cars, especially the intro. I very much like the synth lines, the call and response between parts, and the effects on them. My biggest issue is that the vocals need to come up a good bit. They're way too set back in the mix. Also, there is a lot of effects on the vocals, which is cool, but I think it might add interest if the processing was changed up a bit between the verse and chorus to help set them apart a bit more - give them a different feel. Nice work, I hope your back in the club for an extended stay!
Beautiful chaos BP, enjoyed this in the same way I enjoy all your submittals. Very different than the Elastic Drums experiment last month (that was last month, wasn't it?) I like the bass and guitar sounds. I would have liked the drums to be more present, but how it is now isn't far off from some of the indie punk stuff I used to enjoy back in the 80's, so maybe it's right for the vibe. anyway, nice work, glad you're here! cheers!
Ha! I expected something a little more industrial with all those construction noises to sample, at your disposal! That sounds like a huge project, I hope it stays on schedule so life can return to normal for your family ASAP.
Your track is very well done. It builds nicely, with new parts, interesting enough, and added often enough to keep hold the listeners interest. Mix is good, use of effects and stereo spectrum is good, I can think of anything I would change - nice work!
Thank you sir, for the kind words! yeah, I was thinking about your comment regarding our opposite approach with the drums, as I was listening to your latest track just now. It's cool, I like mixing the the electronic stuff with the older organic elements, and since I'm a life-long guitar player, that's where most of the organic seasoning comes from in my case.
I'm glad you mentioned the rhythm guitar part. Lately I've been coming up with progressions in Suggester (the app) and then moving them to guitar which gives them a more natural feel.. It's lead to a fresh approach to playing rhythm that I'm really enjoying. Very cool to discover new stuff on the guitar after all these years of playing... thanks again for your feedback.
@richardyot, super cool. Love the "vocals", the interesting sounds that you have bopping through it. Some lovely transitions. Mix is very nicely done.
The one thing I'd like to hear would be a bit more "oomph" from the drums. They're very light. One of my favourite sounds in the world is a good, fat snare hit, well recorded.
Cool track. Add a little bit of a more dominant kick into the track, & will it want want me to lay by a nice young Greek lady on a tranquil isolated beach watching the sun go down with her(I'm not that lucky,, but I can dream....... A.....?) Whist I'm Listening to it. Great stuff?
Thanks Rick. Where’s yours?
Thank you and that you picked up on those patterns. All by accident of course but I’ll take it. Cheers.
Many thanks and yes I struggle pulling the drums further in/out. Something I have to work on instead of merely ‘Duplicating Tracks’ in Cubasis to fatten and project. And I will once I’ve time to review. Please Mister Shaken, tell me the last day of this month is next Monday? Thanks. Thought so.
Some loops from blocs wave exported to loopy triggered by blueboard foot controller while playing my tenor saxophone, loopy is hosted in AUM like the saxophone which has internal eq nodes, blamsoft reverb, Dubstation 2 delay, fac chorus and ddmf compressor. All is performed and recorded live in AUM with irig pro io audio interface in one stereo file with no post treatment.
Thank you Def. That you felt the heat of the tarmac is good news.... excellent...Thanks. Until those bastard Brynglas tunnels can be bypassed, the rush on the M4 is limited to Anglo Asphalt only.
Studs took the words out of my ears Sunday afternoon in a rainy Greenford on my grandma's floor watching Tony Curtis (cool) and Roger Moore (not so much)....I could easily imagine the first half of this with vocals and there's a very definite chorus here as well....
Lol. I'm working on a guitar piece. And have been working on it for far too long. Once I'm retired, (two weeks,) I want to start putting out instrumental electronica pieces once a month. But right now, I just don't have the time to work on my composition classes and homework, and play and practice, and write/record. Hopefully soon, though.
Beck and Morrison had a bastard child and here he is singing/vamping along through the dark hours. Really like the rhythm guitar, speaks the Velvets to me just perfectly. I know I've muttered about vocal levels previously, but I think you've got it exactly right here.
I know I've said this before but you are either channeling Stanard or you are him. Or Karen in Georgia.
Like it a lot. Approaching what these days probably counts as a protest song and what I like about that (or this) the most is that you sound as though you believe what you're saying/singing.
And you STILL find the time to listen and comment on songs from The Club. A gentleman. Hang on... retiring in two weeks! See you down the Post Office (if you can find one). Counter 3 for pensions and speak with Val. Nice gal. Good luck.
Like this plenty and I really like the movie it comes from or I would really like to see the movie it will come from. Some tension, some hope, some movement....I wish I could get my Circuit to make this kind of music. I LOVE the guitar sound that comes in gently two thirds of the way through. Fond of electronics but always think the shadow of a stringed instrument (that actually sounds like an analogue object) is always very welcome.
Thank you Mr. Goodyear. For whatever reason Stan's material, and I have never crossed paths. That's about to change. I'll attack it on my own, but if you have suggestions, feel free point me down the right path.
This reminds me, there is a track on the latest Alt-J release called "Last Year". Every time I hear it, I think "This sounds like a Johnny Goodyear track". anyway.... thanks again!
edit: listening to "Call of the West", figuring it's a safe bet. Of course I'm familiar with (and a fan of) "Mexican Radio", but didn't make the connection 'til now...
Very cool. Nice for not having mixed anything after the fact, in particular. Want to try some of this kind of thing myself.
While in college, I once handed over a take-out delivery to SR and automically blurted out, "Oh my god, you really talk like that!"
He really does.
Was it a BBQ joint? I bet I can guess what he ordered!
