I’d definitely guess at Modstep 2.

Here’s a tweet from Mr Haq...

Does the timeline hint suggest 24/1? In time for NAMM?

lol. it definitely looks like he's hinting at modstep.

That is absolutely Modstep, and with audio. Clip-launching audio! Ableton for iOS, basically!!
(Hang on, let me take another hit of this stuff....)

Actually, that’s a screenshot from Lumafusion video editor, not a secret beta screenshot. However, I’m still thinking it could be ModStep 2. If it is, and the video is that long, then you know damn well audio was added to it somehow. I also suspect a timeline too. Jakob’s the man who worked on all those other videos for ModStep as I said, so if they wanted him to create new tutorials, it wouldn’t surprise me.

I stand corrected. The brain tends to fill in gaps when it's excited. But that does look an awful lot like Modstep.

I know, right? :) Well, I do hope the fuss IS over ModStep 2. I never cared for ModStep 1 workflow-wise, so if they can turn it into something like Ableton Live Jr or similar, I WILL be paying for the upgrade if the upgrade is a paid one.

  • I am waiting for his next video, too. I really like what Jakob is doing - and the way he does it.

    OK, now my theories:

    • Maybe it's a DIY project which just ("just") needs to be finished
    • Reason 10 - now also on iOS
    • Arturia Minibrute 2s - how to use it with iOS music production
    • Releases his next dubstep album
    • Did anyone talk about Modstep yet?

    ;-)

It’s not modstep based on the iOS keyboard in that latest post......modstep uses its own internal keyboard.

It could be something from propellorhead they were recruiting beta testers a few months back.

Unless, of course, that's what they want you to think :) Odds on Modstep must still be the shortest surely...

    It could be SunVox :D

Yay yay yay! (Though J. doesn’t strike me as a S_nV_x guy...hence your jest I guess)

  • Jakob uses the phrase “HUGE RELEASE”, not “huge update” in his tweet. Could this be less likely Modstep 2 and more likely Reason Mobile?

I envisage Reason Mobile taking the form of a superior Korg Gadget but with the full rack extensions and full AU support. NAMM would be a great stage to release this game changer. I would pay a subscription for that! :p

But he was wearing the green sweater. He never wears the green sweater when there's an 'R' in the app...

Yeah, me too if it included online storage (Propeller Cloud? ), project syncing across platforms (create something on iPad, download it from the cloud and finish it on the Mac), an evolving content library (whether that means their own sample cloud like sounds.com, splice, etc, or all rack extensions (including third party) are included with new rack extensions being added often like with Roland Cloud, or both), and/or there’s an “end goal” (like Splice’s “rent-to-own” subscription model). If it’s a “pay an indefinite monthly subscription just so you can store your projects locally on your iPad” situation like with Celsys’ Clip Studio Paint/a certain eq app, then it’s a firm “hell no” for me.

Also, “You’ll get bugs fixed quicker” is mostly a big fat a lie. (At least Ulysses puts their money where their mouths are while offering cloud syncing. Clip Studio Paint hasn’t been updated in two months, and a certain eq app hasn’t been updated in over five.) These non-cloud, indefinite subscription apps that receive updates at the same pace as one-time fee apps seems like greedy money-grubbing and customer exploitation. I hope this isn’t the road Propellerhead would take.

That said, I still think Jakob’s plan is to usher in ModStep 2.

  • I'm hoping it's for Reasom Mobile, as Jacob has in the past worked with Propellerhead Reason 9.1 promotion in the past?.......

  • Really like this thread. Mobile reason would be amazing. Indeed.
I am actually picturing Jakob sitting infront of his Computer and reading all this. Haha
Hey mate drop in and give us a date!!!! Ahhh

  • Yeah @jakoB_haQ , can you give us a tentative reveal date? :)

  • edited January 2018

My guess is Reason. Modstep I test and there isn’t anything going on that I can see. Could mean the build and testers are stealth and totally different, or...
Left Reason 15 years ago and don’t need a smaller version of it so I really hope it’s Modstep, or something to do with Ableton fishing questions about iOS.

  • Yes - come on Jacob- you must have known this would happen. Is it soonish, soon, quite soon, very soon, incredibly soon or so soon you wouldn’t believe it?

    NDA?

Probably- at least we know there is something to look forward to.

It’s what I’m guessing, but at least a general date would be welcome news indeed.

  • Teenage Engineering OP-Z maybe?
    Is there a prize

I think Cuckoo might be doing them; he’s teasing something too.

Unless... maybe he’s doing Samplr 2. He did a great demo of Samplr about 6 months ago.

Anyone want to volunteer a prize for the correct answer? :D

I would love to think its Samplr2 but I think not.

  • maybe he's announcing he's getting married?

  • Also Cuckoo ?? Damn this thing will be big.. Maybe really Propellerheads is going to nail it ..

Could be, the OP-Z release is iminent, and Cuckoo (love his OP-1 videos) is a big fan of all that.

  • I do hope it's a new awesome app of some kind that is unlike anything we have available today :)
I'm not easily impressed by 'digital hardware junk' that is mostly just a shell driven by some clever dsp code...

  • edited January 2018

there is alot of info already about OP-Z on teenage engineering page so i don't think this is the case .. no, it must be something completely hidden, not even fragment of information leaked .. some big surprise.. and something VERY complex, considering length of Jakob's videos :)

Yes ! And Cuckoo was wedding witness !!!
