Fab track. Made me drive faster when I was listening to it in my truck. Luckily I wasn't in the Troodos mountains, other wise I may of got to Paphos quicker. Nice work. ;)

    Hi guys,

I’m very excited about this one. It’s a collaboration with a friend of mine from a songwriting forum. He’s known as Jambrains. I wrote the melody, lyrics and he did all the music/production. It’s the first of hopefully many collabs together.

All thoughts are very welcome please. B) :)

Another fab track mate. Keep it up. ;)

My first post here. Nothing vocal, but I like this one a lot!

Top tune........ Reminds me of the KLF, or Tricky Disco era. Nice production. ;)

My entry for the month, lyrics in the spoiler:

Nice performance. Nice laid back vibe. vocal in the verse bit high in the mix. drums to low in the mix. (for me)

  • @crouchie said:

Bit messy, too long, not a great vocal, but at least I finally, fiiinally got something done...
I think it comes across better with the volume up. Hides a multitude of sins

    P

pretty much agree with your description. but the vocal is better than "not great" id have faded out at 3.20 .. the perfect length for a pop song apparently ! this track stirred me to want to hear more from you so thats good ;)

Great track. my only issue is the drums are a bit busy. Little more flowing and this would be very dancable

... and this is why i never post in here :( not really my bag but a thoroughly pro performed and executed production. makes my efforts sound like ... well .. shit :'( :D

This month is a bit of Gospel Soulful House, & a Disco Mix of the same vocal acapella (it's also just been signed up with Disco Balls Records)...... Enjoy!..... ;)

... bringing the vocal in within the first few seconds is an odd move!? radio mix maybe yes... club mix... definite no.
    Nice production, pro sounding track.

  • @enc well done with that epic round of feedback. You get a SOTMC gold badge for that :)

Look forward to listening to your entry, I'm hoping to make some time for the latest submissions tomorrow.

One of my friends encouraged me to post this one, which I finished at the very end of March - it's not my personal favorite of the dozen or so songs I've crafted since getting back into it, but he said it's his, which just goes to show you never know what'll click for other people! I did have a lot of fun making it, though, and it sounds pretty decent turned up loud (the kick has plenty of ooomph down low) so I can dance around.

Electronic instrumental. Produced 100% on my iPhone 8 in Gadget: Recife, Gladstone, Lisbon, Chicago, Milpitas, Monpellier, and Berlin. Mixed and mastered on my PC.

I'll start making my way through the (almost intimidatingly good!) other submissions to comment, such as I'm able.

  • @moff it's pretty cool trancey thing, I like the driving groove and the arps and melodies that drift in and out over the backbone synths. Some nice sounds in there and just enough variety to keep it interesting throughout.

Production wise it's all good, mix works great and the layering of the various instruments is perfect.

  • @enc what happened to the track you posted? I was just about to listen to it and the post seems to have been removed?

  • @studs1966 As always I seem to prefer the disco mix, the instrumentation is great as usual, but I'm less keen on the choice of vocal sample, might be because the vocal melody isn't as strong as previous ones. The guitar backing is really cool though and has the usual authentic 70s vibe.

  • @aaronpc That's a great little bit of whimsy - the music fits perfectly with your son's megalomaniac plans to take over the world. The squelchy little synth, the Ennio Morricone whistling, it's all a wonderfully bizarre mix of fun.

  • @vitocorleone123 I can see why your friend liked the track - there's a nice interplay between the chords and the arps, and a good groove to drive it all along. Then we get dueling arps, that's pretty cool.

The drums feel a bit basic compared to the rest of it though, they could do with more variety to give them a bit more life. I also would personally like a bit more warmth in there, all the synth sounds are quite cold sounding, but otherwise it's very good - lots of variety, a good arrangement and some nice sounds.

The riffs/arps at the start were particularly good IMO, and got me listening to the rest of the track in anticipation.

Thanks! I definitely agree on the drums - I feel ok on my basic skills (groove) at this point, but need to learn and do more fills. I wanted this fairly simple, but simple doesn't have to mean "plain" and the drums on this track borders on that, when listening critically.

I think part of the cold synth aspect is what I like, but all-cold-all-the-time can get tiring. I also think some of the cold are the Gadget synths themselves - I'm on the cusp of jumping to Xequence + AUM as I have several non-Gadget synths as well that have more warmth (e.g., Zeeon and Model D), but that also means leaving the simplicity of Gadget behind! I also think I can learn more on how to warm up cold synths without totally washing them out, including more EQ skills.

With a bit of a break to get more critical distance, perhaps this track is worth revisiting when I can apply the above. Wish I could sing, too, as some of my tracks could definitely use vocals, even if minimalist.

You can always write the parts in Gadget and then export the MIDI to sequence elsewhere with a different synth - I do this sometimes.

Thanks a lot, I'll take those references as a compliment. Maybe will be back next month, too. I love my iPad for music production! All these powerful tools in such a pleasant compact package, it is near magic!

This sounds great! I love the phase in the bassline, it sounds super crisp.

I've been wanting to do some industrial/synthwave style stuff. These gadget modules and some slight bitcrushing might just be what the doctor ordered!

  • Nice Italo track!

Thanks @richardyot. Infact if you listen to most of my stuff (the Deep House mixes) carefully, they are all based on the Disco format. I think House music is a "Bastard Son of Disco" in some way or other. :D ........ Make a good groove, add a cool chord progression, then add a funky bassline/ guitar rhythm with a bit of synth/strong stabs with the vocals, & your there. All done!....... Hence that's why I've made over 535 tracks, of NU Disco/DeepHouse, etc, plus about 30 Remixes so far (for a couple of record Labels...... after I did the track "Jazz Acid" track here, if you remember?).. since then, I started doing music again a bit more seriously, is when you started the Song of the Month Club roughly..... I suppose you doing the club, has kicked me up the Arse, & started to write more, & get Jiggy with it........ Thanks Boss!....... ;)

  • @studs1966 glad to hear the SOTMC inspired you to get going again, and well done on the releases. 535 tracks is quite an achievement.

Cheers mate. ;) It's become a pleasurable addictanal hobby..... Like us all really..... And if I can make any money out of it, then it's an additional bonus?....... Either way, it's all about the enjoyment of creation & personal self satisfaction( whether it sounds good to others or not) on an iPad/PC/ or anything that make a tune(including a Banjo) ;) it's also more of an achievement when my little girl says, "Hey Daddy!..... Your music is on iTunes/Traxsource/Beatport/ etc........ Now you can buy me new bike!"..... :D

  • @richardyot said:

Definitely Zen. I'm having to try to nitpick, and the only thing I came up with is that I think the bass guitar could be a little further tamed to sit a hair better in the mix. On my earbuds, it sounds a little "plonky", though that isn't an issue on my closed cans eq'd to be more flat. In other words, as far as the song itself goes: great! I can only try to pick at the production. Only other thing I can think of is, in a more dreamy tune like this, perhaps applying a few more effects to your vocals (i heard a bit more toward the end, though) at times to emphasize a lyric or a transition.

I think the long lead in works to set the sort of out there tone, and the faster (not sudden or jarring) finish also fits the lyrics, as I think someone else said. Not my genre, but I enjoyed it. And listened more than once even though I didn't have to :)

Hey folks. Creating sounds with IOS has opened a new range of exploration for me -- from an avid 70's rocker playing a mean radio dial, to a hippy percussionist at Rainbow Gatherings around the country, to using synths in ways I've never gone before. My selection for the month of April is something I called Kite Flying.

I dug the juxtaposition of the very Celtic like lead melody lines over the stomping groove and distorted stabs on the one. The intro was really nice; it’s often driven home in songwriting/recording circles to keep intros quick, get to the hook, etc. especially in these times of diminished attention span.

But I think it depends on genre as well as what the artist is trying to convey. I’m not a fan of any “paint by numbers” rules of music. The intro here works and the entire track has a cool vibe throughout. Nice job man...

Another ultra clean & professional track by Darren. Man, you work with some outstanding vocalists. I don’t hear any obvious vocal tuning artifacts, even through my Sony 7506’s the bass is nice and everything is balanced. Very cool...
