    Hi guys,

I’m very excited about this one. It’s a collaboration with a friend of mine from a songwriting forum. He’s known as Jambrains. I wrote the melody, lyrics and he did all the music/production. It’s the first of hopefully many collabs together.

All thoughts are very welcome please. B) :)

Great tune, really well put together. Chorus v strong but I actually just really like the structure of the song, it leads and links through really nicely and has a great flow. Whole thing really nicely mixed. Your vocal is excellent as always, channelling your inner Bryan Adams? 😉. And a proper good guitar break in there. Really impressive, well done

My first post here. Nothing vocal, but I like this one a lot!

Really liked this. Got a great analogue, retro feel, rises and falls nicely. And it’s a really nice mix too, nothing really clashing and it blends great. Great stuff!

My new one , Summer Kicks . Started out just mangling up some samples in Blocswave , sending the loops to Gadget , adding synths and additional drums and FX . I still haven’t got a clue what I’m doing really , just making it all up as I go along 😀

Love this . A bit Depeche Modeish . Brilliant

Nice. It reminds me of Donna Summer disco appregeator with early Chicago Trax House Records, like, "Mr Lee & Company" or Raze( "Jack The Groove")...... In the 90's if the DJ mixed this track after "Steve Silks" track "Jack Your Body" I would be still dancing to this.
Nice production mate. ;) (& if you don't know the songs I mentioned?....... Well.... Yes, I'm on old git)....... You'll have to look up on YouTube of the tracks I mentioned. :D

I wasn't really expecting to do a song this month, but here we are. Maybe by putting it up here I can stop effing with it and finish my taxes. This started as an odd little experiment in the YouCompose app that I couldn't stop listening to for some reason. Then the boy and I were reading comic books and I had an epiphany. Super weird, but what else is new.

Cool track, love the sounds and the child vocal is awesome too. Great mix and arrangement. Kick sounds fine but the other drums are a tad low.
    :)

Spot on with the drums. Fixed it. I've been pumping up other parts and the hats got lost in the mix.

And thanks to the others for the nice comments.

Dunno if I should put this in as it was recorded in March and the title mentions February, but my concept of time is about two months backwards anyway so it's probably an apt reflection of where I am now, or something. I think this was a completely AUM based jam session, no doubt with lashing of my favourite new FX Discord:

Hey now, that was awesome! Reminds me a bit of Shpongle. I like the spoken audio, provided a very interesting feel, in that I couldn’t decide whether it was “spooky” or “forlorn”. Really cool.

Ooh blimey, thank you very much, that’s a big compliment - I’m slightly in awe of the Shpongles!

  • A bit late to the party here, but I thought I’d go ahead and post this here instead of waiting until next month.

Lots of quick notes from Neo Soul Keys, Moog Model D for bass, Zeeon for some pad-ishness, Poison-202 for the lead, and Lyra for drums. I aimed for -14LUFS but still feel like I’m not sure exactly what I’m doing on the mastering stages.

I like the the substance/title (TGOIT). It IS too long or too long in this form, and yes a bit messy, but showcases/hints at a lot of the things you do do really well/nicely....probably liked the second half more than the first. I think I was guilty of the Heaven 17 ref at some point, reminds me of Pale in places also...it's funny, you allude to trouble getting things done/finished. There are folks here who my fondest wish for (creatively) would be to churn out lots of material and see what occurs. You would certainly be in this group, but doesn't sound as though that splurge is going to happen anytime soon :)

My entry for this month: Craving -

Might have just been the light fading, the Austin dusk, but this hit me at just the right moment of weird floating along. Easily the favorite piece of yours I've heard here. Not something trying to be odd, but is still very much a thing until itself. This feeling of course made the more so by the video which worked really well for me. Finally, I liked the vocal plenty, didn't try to be something it wasn't, it just was. Good stuff Sir.

    Thanks Jonny

Actually I am mid splurge! I have re-embraced Gadget and decided to not be fussy! I am in the completely new position of having 3 tunes pretty much ready to go... Bit of a mixed bag but feel totally liberated so will be inflicting this shite on the forum for a while yet ;-)

I like it, kinda funky and very interesting arrangement, with great dynamics and lots of interesting melodies going on and lovely interplay between the synths. The choice of sounds is really good, love that Moog bass and I really like the unusual but very dynamic and intricate arrangement that manages to be quite complex without losing the listener.

The only problem is that the main theme is too similar to the Mission Impossible theme tune (obviously accidental, it's so easily done). Otherwise though it's a really fresh sounding track.

Big noise from the big cheese! :) This sounds very much what you were headed for, if I had a crit (ALWAYS!) it would be that the double (triple/quad/etc) tracking in the voice on the 'Avalanche' as and when it happens could/should be even bigger/deeper/louder and that the vocal overall wouldn't hurt being a db or two higher....

This isn't what I had in mind when I was talking about the coming benign dictatorship! Very weird as you say. I liked it and then there's the family heirloom aspect of it which is not to be underestimated. I can see this being played at Thanksgiving in 2040 and The Boy's partner sitting at dinner nodding slowly, saying ...now I understand....

Yeah, when I played it for my wife (which I’ve learned to wait until late in the mixing stage before doing lol) she said “it kinda sounds a little like Mission Impossible” and I was like “oh... CRAP!” By then I was too attached to the way it had worked out, so I left it. I did think about going back and changing it up just a little, though, and I may still do that at some point. Since you’re the second person to mention it, I probably should. And maybe I should revisit my rule about not playing things too early for my wife...

I like it a lot. And yeah I swear it's that damn hi-hat that makes us think of Mister Phelps. Ok, the bass sound also. BUT, it's a nice piece of work.

I shall make all the universe wild and primitive!
We must return to primitive living!
We must end democracy and civilization forever!
    Civilization is a failure!

We're out to get the money
In all these New York banks
And the jewels in every mansion
We'll take over all the wealth in the city

If we carry out our plans carefully
    It'll be a cinch!
    First, we'll terrorize the city
When the cops are all out of the picture, we'll take over!

I shall destroy all the civilized planets!
My secret ray is working perfectly!
When everybody has dissappearred into space
We'll have the whole Earth, and all of its wealth, to ourselves!

I shall make all the universe wild and primitive!

One of my friends encouraged me to post this one, which I finished at the very end of March - it's not my personal favorite of the dozen or so songs I've crafted since getting back into it, but he said it's his, which just goes to show you never know what'll click for other people! I did have a lot of fun making it, though, and it sounds pretty decent turned up loud (the kick has plenty of ooomph down low) so I can dance around.

Electronic instrumental. Produced 100% on my iPhone 8 in Gadget: Recife, Gladstone, Lisbon, Chicago, Milpitas, Monpellier, and Berlin. Mixed and mastered on my PC.

I'll start making my way through the (almost intimidatingly good!) other submissions to comment, such as I'm able.

Enjoyed this, retro feel which is often the Gadget way, and it rises and falls really nicely, kept me interested all through. Personal preference, might have just liked a bit more going on from the percussion, bit busier, but like I say a minor thing. Great tune!

Enjoyed this. It always sounds like you are having a lot of fun when u make your tunes. This was a good ‘un. I really felt carried along by it, and I think you timed the rises and falls just right. The mix seems just right, lots going on but not oppressive/too dense. Great, looking forward to your next one from 2 months ago ;-)

Yep, like this a lot. Takes me back to Big Beat Boutique days. Keep making it up as u go along cos it’s working. Might do a bit more with the percussion in this tune, but otherwise loved it. Great1

Thanks boss. Yeah, I wouldn't recommend dropping a couple of tabs and sitting through the Horse Gas discography, lots of creepy crawlies in there. I am mellowing out a bit though, honest.

Thanks Crouchie! Yeah these are a lot of fun to do - I load up a bunch of synths, drums and fx in AUM, press record and just jam away. An hour later I've got three or four sessions to play with which I then mix together in Soundforge on the PC. It's a bit hit and miss (mainly miss), but it's all pressure-free and enjoyable.

I'm currently working on more structured stuff at the moment though - trying to be a bit more focussed on what I'm doing on the iPad, and then exporting into Gadget for proper sequencing and whatnot, whilst trying to keep the spontenaiety present. Next months two month old track will probably be a bit more listener friendly. Probably.

Thanks again for the comments guys, I'll go through the other tracks and add my 10p worth soon.

Again, thanking @Jocphone for his remix. To be honest, there was very little musical content from me and the disco flavour is all his fault. Only took him 10 minutes. Reckon it could be the new ‘Bastard Birdy Song’ this summer. Off to dance with Delia :)

Sounds good. It's successful as a series of variations on a theme, but it doesn't work as a song for me. I'd say take your favorite few parts and stick some new sections in between them that carry the listener into new corners. If you create a lot of songs like this, consider them all as parts to play with and start snapping them together

    Thank you for the advice.
