I enjoyed this (more in my genres of choice), so I think you can chalk that up as a "win" if people like listening :-)

The vocal panning I didn't like as much at first, but then it really seemed to work. I'm wondering if helping "ground" the listener in the center first early on might help, even if just for the first line? Traditional (meh) would've had the lyrics centered and the choral effects really big and wide. Don't follow tradition, but maybe there's a way to quickly bridge the gap?

Other than that, while I do like long instrumental endings, I felt perhaps this one could be tightened up. Have you tried a version of the track where you shave ~30s off? Also have you tried out repeating the "god of inconsequential things" line one last time at or just after the fade-out with some kind of effect (even if big reverb or even some black hole reverb)? Maybe it'd turn out too cheesy.

Thank v much for taking the time to make such a helpful comment, much appreciated. Totally agree with the ending. Needs more of a surge, to be shorter, and the arps fall flat compared to how I initially had them set up. I struggle with my vocals because basically I use a tiny mic and usually just go with the first take (time pressure/laziness!). I tried to distort them a bit cos that way I feel less self-conscious having them higher in the mix (I usually bury them). You make really good points and I’ll take them forward. Cheers!

One of my friends encouraged me to post this one, which I finished at the very end of March - it's not my personal favorite of the dozen or so songs I've crafted since getting back into it, but he said it's his, which just goes to show you never know what'll click for other people! I did have a lot of fun making it, though, and it sounds pretty decent turned up loud (the kick has plenty of ooomph down low) so I can dance around.

Electronic instrumental. Produced 100% on my iPhone 8 in Gadget: Recife, Gladstone, Lisbon, Chicago, Milpitas, Monpellier, and Berlin. Mixed and mastered on my PC.

I'll start making my way through the (almost intimidatingly good!) other submissions to comment, such as I'm able.

Dude!! I love this type of electronic music. I love all the arps you’ve got going on. The mix sounds GREAT! There’s lots of cool little things going on, I like how the big 80’s pad comes in every now and then and just lifts everything. I thoroughly enjoyed it, all that’s missing is a great top line melody/vocal and you’ve got a great pop song. :)

I wasn't really expecting to do a song this month, but here we are. Maybe by putting it up here I can stop effing with it and finish my taxes. This started as an odd little experiment in the YouCompose app that I couldn't stop listening to for some reason. Then the boy and I were reading comic books and I had an epiphany. Super weird, but what else is new.

I shall make all the universe wild and primitive!
We must return to primitive living!
We must end democracy and civilization forever!
    Civilization is a failure!

We're out to get the money
In all these New York banks
And the jewels in every mansion
We'll take over all the wealth in the city

If we carry out our plans carefully
    It'll be a cinch!
    First, we'll terrorize the city
When the cops are all out of the picture, we'll take over!

I shall destroy all the civilized planets!
My secret ray is working perfectly!
When everybody has dissappearred into space
We'll have the whole Earth, and all of its wealth, to ourselves!

I shall make all the universe wild and primitive!
We must return to primitive living!
We must end democracy and civilization forever!
    Civilization is a failure!

We're out to get the money
In all these New York banks
And the jewels in every mansion
We'll take over all the wealth in the city!

We're out to get the money
In all these New York banks
And the jewels in every mansion
We'll take over all the wealth in the city!

We're out to get the money
In all these New York banks
We're out to get the money
In all these New York banks

We're out to get the money
In all these New York banks
We're out to get the money
We're out to get the money

Great stuff mate, wonderfully weird, with a perfect villain to drive home the message! :D :) :)

Thanks! Feel free to write some lyrics ... and then sing 'em and send it all my way :D I'd have to distort the heck outta my own voice (do the robot!) in order to inflict it upon others.

My entry for this month: Craving -

This was fun, and the video was a beautiful addition and works quite well as an accompaniment. Musically, I immediately got a Talking Heads vibe from the keys. I also enjoyed the real (or real sounding!) drums - wish I knew how to play. I like the vocal effect you have going on... did you try out having your vocals sort of "float" around or pan (e.g., maybe "You're craving...." on the left, and "You're starving..." on the right)? Also, maybe a touch more compression on the mixbus to squash all the elements together even more? Just a touch, perhaps. Another random thought - not sure if you want the electric guitar that sometimes comes in to be a little more crunchy/crisp when it does, though then you'd have to decide on that vs. the cymbal ride. I also sort of wanted to hear even more of the strings/pick on the acoustic 3/4 of the way through.

Gotta say I'm having fun going through and listening a couple times more to each track so that I can have even an inkling of what to try to say.

Tried to develop the idea of the last track, and in the end something new was born

G-g-g-g-gooooooooo Gadget!! Fun, isn't it? I've been more musically productive since getting Gadget on my iPhone than I ever was using my PC.

I liked how you captured the 8bit crunch and vibe without being obnoxiously reproductive of it - my ears get tired when people do that (side note: if you've never heard the band mind.in.a.box I think you might like them... they even have an 8bit one-off album).

I think the main thing about your track I can think of is that I wanted one more interlude from the bassline synths as they're a bit up there in frequency and pretty aggressive (which works with the track). I was just starting to want an interlude around 1:20 when you hit me with it at 1:28. You might even be able to extend it further than you did and really go for some swirling, floating pads and effects around the vocal sample. Maybe also around minute 3 or so? You have a great melody going with the keys around there that could stand more on its own if you wanted it to. Finally, I also appreciate that you kept the track tight in overall length. I look forward to hearing more.

Great stuff. I have great respect for cats like you & @vitocorleone123 who can create entire tracks in Gadget. I love the sound palette in Gadget but I find myself wanting to add other instruments (other synth apps/MIDI or mic'd guitars, and sometimes vocals) to the experiments I start in Korg's "DAW".

But because of its all-in-one closed architecture those kinds of things are easier said than done even with the newer Rosario Guitar Gadget & Zurich Sound Recorder Gadget included. I’d love Gadget to get AUv3 functionality to take advantage of the individual Gadget.

Although bottom line is it’s the talent not the tools which @vitocorleone123 & @moff prove. Certainly inspires me to open up Gadget more often...

Love the groove, and even love that it sounds like it was recorded via analog and a mic from what was coming out of one or more speakers - all that worked for me and even gives a nice aesthetic. I think most of the instruments could stay like that, but I did wish that the lead would "pop out" more, as if all the rest stayed as is but the lead was added in a DAW to be more present over the top. At least sometimes. I liked that the lead was flying around like a kite in the wind.

I think someone else said it in some form or another but the track sounds like you were having a lot of fun jamming, but could benefit from being tightened up by cutting several measures. I wanted the drums to start around :50. I think the last bit after ~3:45 could've faded out, maybe with the synth lead flying around and then a bit of a "pop" as the string snaps, or something.

My entry for the month, lyrics in the spoiler:

    Out on the frontier
    You're Floating through the stratosphere
    Right here on the edge
    You're Dangling on the ledge

    Scanning the unknown
You're Out here on your own
    Where the air is thin
    Where no-one’s ever been

    Living on the edge
    Between life and the mystery
    Right here on the edge
    Of nothing or of history

    Walking down the hall
Are you two or ten feet tall?
    Who is it you see?
Who have you got for company?

    Do they wish you well?
    And can you even tell?
    Up here on the peak
It's not their praise you seek

    Living on the edge
    Between life and the mystery
    Right here on the edge
    Of nothing or of history

Lovely song and really lovely mix. I felt the intro needed to just be a little less complex (I think that’s what I mean) to kind of draw you in to the tune, but from there it went really well. I thought you nailed the chorus totally and your vocals sound better than ever. There was a lovely subtle harmony in that chorus that I really loved. Great stuff, really enjoyed it

Only got positives for this one. Really enjoyed it, loved the acoustic plucked guitar late on, and it just goes to show how visuals that complement the song help to draw u in so much more. Simple but really effective and I enjoyed it immensely. And as always you musicianship humbles me ! Cheers

Yep, loving the psy-trance breaks feel, like that it was done on Gadget which I must say I’m coming back round to just cos it’s so easy to get things done. And you’ve got a great tune together, really like how it constantly morphs to keep you interested. Like it a lot, great stuff

Hey folks. Creating sounds with IOS has opened a new range of exploration for me -- from an avid 70's rocker playing a mean radio dial, to a hippy percussionist at Rainbow Gatherings around the country, to using synths in ways I've never gone before. My selection for the month of April is something I called Kite Flying.

Like this, nice samba (?) rhythm, love the lead synth over the top, keeps it interesting. But why is it so muffled, or am I just having problems with Soundcloud, if so I apologise. Still really enjoyed it though and looking forward to hearing more. Great stuff

Lots of good tracks here this month. Looks like the season of regeneration is well upon us :)

Here's the first half of my next EP:

    https://lucidmusicinc.bandcamp.com/album/enigmatic

Really enjoyed both of these, like the minimalist feel a lot. Got some distortion in the first one with the keys early on, but likely a browser issue my end. Like your style a lot and will look you up (Bandcamp?)

Yeah the distortion was my fault, too much resonance. Second song is getting a remix/reboot, which I'll post here hopefully soon. Thanks for checking them out B)

You are correct that it sounds muffled. It's on my list to remix. Thanks for your feedback.

Dunno if I should put this in as it was recorded in March and the title mentions February, but my concept of time is about two months backwards anyway so it's probably an apt reflection of where I am now, or something. I think this was a completely AUM based jam session, no doubt with lashing of my favourite new FX Discord:

Good stuff! I got a very David Lynch vibe from the track. The mix was just right, loved the bass. Actually, I could have used an extended outro to keep the feeling going 😁

  • @richardyot, I like it. Very late 60s vibe to it. I think the drums needed to come up in the mix a bit, a tad too quiet for me compared to everything else; but the rest of the mix was good. Very nice treatment of your voice. Really like how you end the break, with the swell at the end of it.

  • @crouchie, wicked. Something about the way it started just sucked me right in, that bit of synth bouncing around. Vocal is brilliant, moving back and forth, the bit of harmony here and there. What a mix; percussion and bass just syncopated enough. Break is perfect, and I love the lyrics. I don’t know what you didn’t like, but you’re wrong. :D

  • edited April 2018

@theconnactic, I like that. A bit of a departure for you. I like your vocal with the sparse lyrics, that works really well. I think the drums were a bit coarse sounding, would have liked a bit of a softer sound in the mix. But overall, I really liked the song.

  • @moff, that’s intense. Great mix and movement. I’d like a bit more variety of feel/rhythm, but it sounds fantastic.

  • edited April 2018

@studs1966, I love getting my dose of the late 70s every month. Great mix as usual. Love the vocals, and the arrangement. It moves, as always. Sax and guitar solos were most excellent.

  • @LostBoy85, great pop/rock tune. A bit of Bon Jovi in there for me, but of Journey as well. Crits are minor, I think the vocal could be brought up a tad in the chorus, it gets a tiny bit lost and that’s where they should be ringing out.

  • @Eriko, that’s a cool track. Some interesting harmonies in there. I like it, but it’s too long, there is not enough variety to keep my interest up, and I like instrumental music. The percussion part where you have the repetitive rapid fire notes is too overpower, I’d turn that down in the mix.

  • @aaronpc, that is weirdness beyond weirdness. :D That being said, it’s a great, twisted little tune. Love the arrangement and mix. Love the progressive weirding of the voice as well.

  • @vitocorleone123, great driving rhythm, and I like the mix. Could have used some relief, some changes, some pauses.

  • @MonzoPro, great track. Love what you did rhythmically with it, that loping, offbeat feel. Not normally my cup of tea, but this was very cool. More like sonic textures, drifting from one to the other.
