Thanks crouchie! This is the first time I was satisfied with my drums, which I’m always struggling with. I hate using pre-defined/generated/AI patterns, because I didn’t make them myself, but not being a drummer I never feel confident in my own patterns. It’s helped that I’ve started to think of drums as 4 different instruments now instead of just one: hats/cymbals, snare, kick, and toms. And then try to have each one be interesting by itself, but also blend together enough that it sounds like a single drummer could play it. Don’t think I’ll ever get to that ideal since I just don’t have the percussion background for it, but at least this time I was able to say to myself “hey this doesn’t suck!”
@loopingstar, great initial ideas. I think the pieces are bit too long, especially the beginning, could cut it back a bit, add some more interest. But it moves along nicely, mix is good.
@obijohn, I like that. Kind of bluesy, funky, a bit prog. Moves along really nicely. Makes me think of the Dixie Dregs a bit. Love the mix and the sounds. Love how it keeps changing and morphing all the way through. The bass by itself, the lead laid over top, great contrast.
@bluepunk, great again, and @Jocphone of course. The one thing, where the distortion comes in, it crushes the vocals a bit. Could bring it down a bit in the mix. Love the way the piece motors along. Punk Moderne.
Thanks for listening and commenting Rick. The distortion thing was a conscious decision, I tried it at various levels and enjoyed that interaction where it causes the track to melt down a bit. It makes a really weird effect through my work laptop speakers, a bit like a stereo phasing that causes you ears to go all sorts of odd. For some people recording is about capturing beautiful and pristine recordings of a musical performance, say, but I think I'm more interested in mixing in a bit of the noise and chaos of daily life.
Don't know where Bluey got ten minutes from though, wait till he sees the bill..

Music from @Jocphone quite understated in parts, and then juxtaposed with this monstrous deep noise, I like that. Lots going on, percussion, weird noises, great production. And swearing (glad the kids are at school as this blares out of the office speakers).
It's always a pleasure to get a glimpse the Bluepunk id, and this one doesn't disappoint, and the backing music works particularly well.
Thanks Richard. By the third remix of this I had obliterated almost all of the original song. Blues seemed fed up with it, although I think that was probably the initial spark of it anyway.. Am actually quite pleased with how it turned out considering the moods we were both in last weekend.
Thanks much! Although this is a pretty heavily iOS song for me, the vocals were transposed and layered up on the desktop— vocals are one thing I've never tried to tackle on the tablet. I also can't take credit for the lyrics, as they're all directly cribbed from 1930's comics by true old time weirdo Fletcher Hanks.
@obijohn I enjoyed this, though I wish I could try it with some different sounds. I love the chugging hammond (who doesn't), but I'm not sure it meshes for me with the bass and drum choice, which are more 80s, and the lead, which is more 90s-aughts. Too many clashing musical eras, or am I just overthinking it? Not sure. Favorite part is the center section interplay when the pads are more prominent, and I might turn that bright lead (202?) down a bit. The arrangement is unique, but I like twists. Prog on.
Lovely as always. Nice bouncy bits to counter the rough, and always bonus points for alliteration. I'd like to hear the bass hop out of the mix more at times, but that's about it!

I get rhythms of Rush. Poking your drum sticks into a straight eight gate, not liking it, aggressively pulling them out to shake and ram them back into dirt composted by Neil Peart. Tons of interest, mad melodic stuff, soaring duelling synthesis things, and the chance to dance to Sim Phillips/Jim Phelps. B+

Had messages asking why the Orange coloured cymbals? Building a drum kit from kitchen stuff and Le Creuseter saucepan lids are better than Tefal which are dreadfal.
