Here's My June Entry...… Same Vocals (this time... Not where I cocked up last month....Ahem! :'( )..... But 3 mixes of the same song..... Enjoy guys... ;)

Definitely the King Tubby mix for me! What do u do to get such width to your mixes? Sounds really professional and I love it

Many thanks for your comment btw, forgot to post at the time

  • Great tune! Break down at 2 mins really works. Great analogue-sounding synths and the clattering beats give it a good sense of urgency. Mix is nicely balanced too, good sense of space which is a thing I struggle to manage on my tunes. Only minor gripe wouldn’t have minded a little pad or something towards the end just to give it a bit more of a build, but a v minor quibble and not a biggie. Great stuff

My entry this time. Still no arrangement and no edits. But trying to give it away in a timely manner.

Love that vocoder effect, you’ve really nailed it there! It builds up really nicely, great retro-future feel. Don’t edit, feels great as it is!

Busy busy month at work, but I still found time to finish a track that had been sitting around half-finished. This one is all-PC, because I'm stuck on about 5 tracks on my iPhone that I can't seem to finish (yet?). I had fun with this one digging into the speeches of a great President and coming up with some that I'd NEVER heard before, including the first bit in the intro that I'm shocked that I've never heard before. It's also probably the most "optimistic" track I've ever made - even though it's optimism in the face of extreme adversity.

I didn't know if it'd turn out, but I was only half-listening once and it gave me the chills, listening to one of the speech bits. So, my music is clearly not the star of the track, and all thanks go to FDR.

Now to make time to listen to everyone else's, as I haven't had a chance yet.

Yes, it definitely works. Sample comes over well and I love that bass. Would prefer the beat a little less 4 to the floor, but it does suit the kind of industrial style. Looking forward to hearing more

  • @LostBoy85 Nice tune, great arrangement and very well sung, the backing harmonies are nice too. I think the drums and bass need be more present in the mix though

Apologies for the post and dash nature of this months effort...there is a bigger story behind this tune, see this thread for the basic run down https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/26760/one-example-of-why-the-world-is-f-k3d

We will listen and comment on other submissions soon.

This tune started as a drum and bass track made entirely in Groovebox.....Once we had vocals from @Bluepunk everything was exported into Cubasis...and then recorded the Elec Guitar and Bass using a Line 6 Amplifi TT.
All sounds apart from the Guitars are from Groovebox, all mixed in Cubasis...mastering was done using MasteringBox...hope you enjoy, :)

EDIT: Thanks for all of your feedback, here is the final version.

Prodigy/Sham 69/Sleaford, perfect blend I reckon. Agree with the sentiments, preposterous policy

My submission for the month. A Nujabes inspired beat. Let me know your thoughts 🙂

This is a lovely tune, really like and bit different to most other submissions here. Agreed with other poster would work brilliantly with either a vocal or sample to just give it some gloss. Really good, like a lot

  • @theconnactic Another very different tune from you. Sounds great as usual. Nice simple arrangement and great singing/playing.
    Some say he's crazy, some say he's lazy....walking like a zombie..sounds like me :)

My entry for this month: only voice and cavaquinho, lyrics in the video’s description. Recorded and finished in Auria Pro!

Ahh Dimitri, you know I have loved this little run of stripped back tunes with vocal. They really work well, particularly with the videos you choose. You are a prodigiously talented instrumentalist, but for me these last few tunes have been even better and each one tells a story. Really enjoyed it, fantastic!

Great Libertines vibe to this one, and I think the production works well this time, bit less tinny and more bass to hold it together. Im really coming to look forward to your tunes each month, good tune this one!

  • @Eriko Nice tune, really like the rolling bassline, mix on the whole sounds nice and balanced. Perhaps the vocoded vocals could be a touch more present ? nudge up on level or some EQ or panning to make space for them ?

Long time lurker on this forum and I'd like to share with you what I did earlier this month.

Got to agree, this is bloody lovely. I do most of my stuff in Gadget too but I can’t make it do that! Gorgeous uplifting tune and really well mixed. You using Lisbon in there? I don’t have that one yet and I think that’s why I don’t recognise some of the sounds (apologies if you are making them all from scratch, that’s an art I’m a long way from learning!). Really impressed, great stuff!

  • @dedko Nice mix and overall sound. I did feel it needed something else though, a 'Part B' as suggested by @shiftsynth1 perhaps.

  • @shiftsynth1 Nice vibe and nice clear mix, as others have hinted, something on top to make it more complete could really lift this.

  • @trackedout I really like the sound you've got going on there. Nice track. Nice vocal and really liking the backing vox too ;)

Thanks...... I don't really know. I just use my ears to hopefully get the mix right. I know what each track sounds like (with FX) individually on there own, so I take my time in bringing it all up to what I think it should sound like, so I can try & get it sounding like it. Would you believe that I mix & master on just using Logitech X-230 Speakers, (& nothing else) rather than using my Focal Spirit Pro cans? (Only used the Focal cans twice. I seem to hear better without anything on my ears.).... Also, I cant afford proper monitor's yet. Every time I'm almost the with the money, something comes up, which take priority. Been using them (Logitech) since they first came out, (had them for a few years now) & still working OK. :)

Thank u. Tried to convince the household that I needed monitors a while back. Unfortunately they had heard my stuff before and it was quickly vetoed. Still on headphones...

I think it’s largely a problem with my novice habit of just chucking stuff at a tune to fill it up then trying to figure a mix out, whereas I should probably be a bit more careful as I go along 😬

    Cheers

  • @crouchie Thanks man! Waiting for the July one have a weird one with a bit of a backstory to post! I enjoy hearing everyone’s stuff here too nice to hear how you guys are all (ab)using iOS to get the music out
