This would be an amazing feature, but I can't seem to get it to work in other hosts. The actual controls for setting up the LFOs are part of the apeMatrix host window, not in the plugin itself.
When the Send MIDI AU is hosted in AUM or AB the control assignment window isn't there. I see the icon for LFO in the middle of the plugin, but it doesn't seem to do anything....
Just tap the CC number to change that, same for the channel number, port number, and control type eg PC etc
Also you doubletap the red bar to get the LFO controls up, same in apeMatrix.
The red icon in the middle just disables and enables the LFO movement.
Excellent, thank you! In apeMatrix you can control it from the host window just like any 3rd party plugin, so I didn't realize you could configure it from the AU controls directly. Should have figured as that's how other ape/Amazing Noises apps do it.
32 measure tempo synced LFOs here I come!
The only thing that's keeping this from being a perfect LFO is the inability to control LFO rate from MIDI.
Being able to label the controls is also incredibly useful! I typically have a lot LFOs going; coming back to a project and trying to remember what was controlling what has been a big pain with AUM's hierarchical control layout.
Yes! I asked for the labels and Alessandro kindly added just before release, so useful
huge!
Then thanks for asking! It's funny how sometimes the simplest things provoke the most joy....
Great update, 2 new AUs to use in other AU Hosts! Including very slow tempo-synced LFOs!
Thanks!
Massive respect to the developer.
I think this app is one of the most underrated gems in iOS music. The same goes for Mood.
Consider it a best kept secret of power users - I'm sure all those who've used it already know
Bumping this thread with my latest, apeMatrix Parte Sei.
All new apeMatrix features covered here, along with a Sugar Bytes-centric jam to boot!
apeMatrix is super nice and the included AUv3's are very usable too!
Just wish the oscilloscope had some sync/re-trig options to make it easier to analyse the incoming waveforms and an option to re-set the sampler's playhead when triggering notes...
With the latest update with speedier UAv3 selection pop-ups it's getting a lot more use, just love the way it's possible to splatter LFO's 'everywhere'
This is the feature that instantly sold me on all the apeSoft and Amazing Noises apps. I was a beta tester on Moebius Lab and this blew my mind. This is the main reason why I don't use AUM any more - when I do, I find myself searching for the missing LFOs!
Yeah, just imagine the day when we can reset the LFO phase when triggering midi-notes
That would be needed in order to to add 'playbable'(ie. not free running) LFOs to AUv3 synths.
The oscilloscope and sampler still need a bit of tweaking
(Ie. being able to 'record' with the sampler would be nice).
Next step would be to make it even deeper ala SunVox Meta Modules.
(ie. add 'Sub Matrixes' for creating instrument & effects chains, in short each + in the Matrix could be yet another Matrix).
Who knows, maybe apeSoft is working on a built-in audio & midi sequencer as an IAP
That seems too normal for ApeSoft.
@Samu I'd like to see more direct access to map MIDI controllers directly to an AU without using MIDI channels - much like AUM does. And yes - live recording with the sampler would be sweet...
I like that he's making MASSIVE improvements regularly. I have no doubt we'll see the functionality we want soon enough.
I really like the jam sessions you can come up with in apeMatrix, but I feel like after you get yore sequences going and you start driving a loop.... I can't progress any further into building song parts and stuff... It kinda for me just becomes a loop maker and jam session and then ends.... Clever app with super awesome stuff, I love it but can't really get to use it a lot cuz of that
You can set apeMatrix to export a stereo file for each separate Matrix - if you plan ahead a bit (as I try to in my most recent video), you can separate the instruments and then do exports. It's not ideal but it does work and without too much hassle.
I also find nowadays with all the AUv3 sequencers, you can sequence a full song without every sending anything to a traditional DAW. It's not how I work, but it's possible.
Now with the incredibly generous inclusion of the Send MIDI AU we can get those LFOs in AUM or anywhere else we want!
Seriously, just the AU extensions that are available in other hosts should make apeMatix a must buy for anyone.
In theory it shouldn't be any different than hosting in AUM; indeed, with the built-in LFOs you should be able to automate some changes / progressions.
That said, I really hope the ability to record stems is added. Until then I can't use it as my main host (I use it as a sub-host for modular-synth-like meta-instruments)
yup, it's the main thing that keeps me from putting in the time to learn it more fluently.
I can’t seem to find the dynamics processor described in the manual anywhere in the app. Has it been removed or am I blind?
Sorry if this has been asked many times before. I’ve done a search, but waded through loads of unrelated stuff
Anyway. As it’s on sale, it begs the question do I need matrix If I already have AUM?
What am I missing out on?
You need it because it gives you tons of LFOs to automate midi CCs of AuV3s inside AUM.
That’s just one of many good reasons.
Just got it on sale as well. The big advantages for me is better midi integration with my external gear, I use an Octatrack as master controller, built in LFO’s and multitrack recording
I use rozeta LFOs in aum.
I’ve just got back from the pub so am very suggestible. Give me another good reason to buy Matrix bearing in mind I think AUM is great.
It's my favorite of all the AUv3 hosts on iOS. The matrix interface allows for really unique combinations of routings.
Check out my videos here for more:
Cool. Thanks. :-)
I wasn’t exaggerating about getting back from the pub. Ape Matrix is approximately the cost of 1 ¼ Pints of Moretti. Beer is very expensive in my part of the world :-(
I’ve had more than 1 ¼ pints of Moretti
I have just bought it.
🐝 Matrix
(Ape= 🐝 in Italian as well as being the devs initials. Sort of.)
It was removed (or well-hidden somewhere) some versions ago...
Super quick FX routing , lfo madness...
@klownshed You're a good man for getting apeMatrix.
And Moretti Dark is one of my favorite all tunes beers, and I drink it as often as I can. You're an even better man for putting these back at the pub!
If you have questions, let me know. It's a while ton of fun, especially with all the LFOs....
Cheers Davey
I look forward to making some Moretti inspired grooves in 🐝 Matrix
🍻
Excellent! I look forward to hearing your Moretti-inspired grooves in apeMatrix!
I am currently averaging a song a decade or so :-)
I’ve just shared one so the next one I dare tag as ‘finished‘ is probably due around 2028. 😂
FWIW here’s my last one (which is about 66% iOS)
