You can name your own instruments for easy ID which is cool. Group Instruments together to combine sounds. All the slider functionally which is at the heart of this beast and gives control over movement sound etc is fully midi mappable by the looks of it. Going to try out some hardware controllers with it later.

Do you know if it has Ableton Link?

Not as yet, just a tempo change and quantize loops option but it does show up in the MidiLinkSync app by Coding Cod.

    but no tempo sync?

Not that I can see. The sdev must be busy because I asked him a few questions about the app but he never got back.

@Seangarland: I am also still waiting for my invite. 36 hours and counting... guess, they have a lot on their plate just now...

I've applied for the beta twice, the first time over a week ago, and it hasn't turned up yet.

Is this going to be compatible with Scale Gen?

I managed to open a Scala from ScaleGen in Gestrument Pro without issue. Plays fine.

So microtuning is possible via Scala import?

I’ll do some more testing but you can send both midi and scala scales from ScaleGen to GP.

They may have run out of testing spots?

  • Hey, first time posting. I am one of the Gestrument developers. We have not run out of testing spots. I do however see about a 100 email addresses in TestFlight who have yet to install the app, so I am going to go ahead and guess that the invites get caught in your spam filters perhaps?

I'll make a push and resend invites to those addresses meanwhile.

    Cheers!

Great to seeing all the updates coming into the beta, it’s a pretty polished app now.

  • Thanks Jumpercollins! We're getting there. :)
The last one from a couple of hours ago also added 17 presets - perhaps those can serve as some inspiration!

First a warm welcome 🙏 I do have a question about Gestrument pro, will it have some type of midi clock sync or better yet ableton link installed at some point in the future?

Yowza, these presets are very cool--definitely take this app in directions I hadn't thought about before.

Yes noticed that and the update to major chords great.

  • @[Deleted User] , thanks! We have discussed this a lot internally, and at least at launch it will not have Ableton link. The way we see it is that Gestrument is an instrument first and foremost, and as such you ideally want to connect it to a host on your iPad. So if you connect it to AUM for instance it will keep in sync with the other things connected to it, and Link will connected to that host. For instance Computer DAW -> iPad host -> Gestrument Pro. That said, at some point Gestrument will be able to sync directly to your computer, but just not at launch.

@lukesleepwalker I know right? The app is very versatile. I often sit down and think about how to exploit a feature in unintended ways.

Ahh, if it keeps sync with AUM I’m happy🙂 thanks for replying.

  • @gestrumentjonas I been enjoying using some of the FX in the app they are great for layering any chance you could add more nature style sounds into that section.

  • New presets are sweet. Starting to see the functionality it has. AU midi support would be awesome.

  • Welcome @gestrumentjonas. Great to have you here.

  • This new version is incredible.... picks jaw off floor...
If someone told me I could only keep one app, this would probably be the one B)

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • @gestrumentjonas Good to see you here. Looking forward to this new thing.

  • @gestrumentjonas
Hello, I’m using the beta and loving it, I’d like to know if there will be a way to edit our own instrument, or if there is a way already. Also i loved the audio and midi recorder in the first version, will this be implemented at one point?

Anyway, congrats the app is a pleasure to use!

  • @tja said:
@gestrumentjonas Like both of your Apps and would get the bundle.

Will the new Gestrument be a new App, or an update?

Just to know if I should better wait ;)

Likely a new app. There is a great enough difference that presets wouldn't port easily and fans of the old one may be peeved at the loss of a couple features specific to its flow. A better question is if the original will continue to see maintenance updates. I'm not looking back.

  • @gestrumentjonas I’m going to be that annoying person here... Any word on a release date?

  • The new version is interesting because you can almost see how they could release a free play only version of the app that would allow music fans to "play" compositions (a la playground). I still think KRFT could have gone in that direction too, breaking down the wall between composers and fans.

Microtuning is possible from the scale editor inside gestrument pro, i find it easier than going back and forth between scale gen and gestrument. Very 👍

  • Is there a way to turn off internal sounds when you’re sending out midi, other then turning down instrument volume?

Is there supposed to be a way to record your motion as you move an instrument node around the main play area?

Getting very nice composition with minimal effort using the various layers per instrument. Loving this so far. :)

  • @skiphunt
You can set the instrument to “no sound” at the top of the list.

Open the sliders, and use the loop button to record your gestures. You hold it down while recording. Hold clear and tap the node to clear the loop.

    Thanks!

I saw the no sound for an instrument, but what if I’ve got 10 instruments grouped for one node? Do I have to select them one by one to set no sound for each?

I believe you can copy/ paste the instrument settings. You can copy and selectively paste any sections (rhythm, pitch, or sound), or all 3 to other instruments. It’s in the hamburger menu on the top left of the instrument panel.
