You can set the instrument to “no sound” at the top of the list.

Open the sliders, and use the loop button to record your gestures. You hold it down while recording. Hold clear and tap the node to clear the loop.

    Thanks!

I saw the no sound for an instrument, but what if I’ve got 10 instruments grouped for one node? Do I have to select them one by one to set no sound for each?

I believe you can copy/ paste the instrument settings. You can copy and selectively paste any sections (rhythm, pitch, or sound), or all 3 to other instruments. It’s in the hamburger menu on the top left of the instrument panel.

I saw that, but that’s essentially the same as having to turn off sound for each of the 10 instruments I have set up in a node group.

Turning the settings volume all the way down works, and is easier. Just wondered if you could turn off sound for a node with 10 instruments grouped, with just one switch. Guessing you can’t. No biggy. Thx

Side note: as a fan of the original Gestrument, I thought it was going to be tough to top it. Gestrument Pro certainly does. It really is quite extraordinary. :)

Agreed. But now I want GPro and TC-11 to have a baby.

  • Two days ago y invite came in finally, Thank you. It‘s a joy to play around, and already very much polished!

You can name your own instruments for easy ID which is cool. Group Instruments together to combine sounds. All the slider functionally which is at the heart of this beast and gives control over movement sound etc is fully midi mappable by the looks of it. Going to try out some hardware controllers with it later.

Do you know if it has Ableton Link?

Not as yet, just a tempo change and quantize loops option but it does show up in the MidiLinkSync app by Coding Cod.

    but no tempo sync?

The app will be syncable to Inter-App Audio hosts that sends host sync (which should be all popular hosts as far as I know). If the host has Ableton Link, any apps and plugins in it will sync to it as well.

(Off topic: IMHO this is the correct way to handle the Link vs host sync question. We don't see individual plugins having Link on the desktop, right? It makes sense that the host (such as Ableton Live on the desktop) provides sync to its plugins, as well as synchronizing via Link with other hosts and devices, not that each and every plugin implements Link.)

@Seangarland: I am also still waiting for my invite. 36 hours and counting... guess, they have a lot on their plate just now...

I've applied for the beta twice, the first time over a week ago, and it hasn't turned up yet.

Let us know if you're still waiting for the invite. It seems a lot of users are having trouble receiving the TestFlight invites. This is a problem either in TestFlight itself or in the mail providers. Also don't forget to check your spam/junk folder!

Syncing with AUM is perfect for me :-)

I know what you mean but Link still is great for ipad apps like this especially if you want to use it without a host, so could be more easily used on a second ipad controlling a master or a computer. If this was an audio unit then it wouldn’t need Link for sure but as a standalone then sometimes Link is great for workflow rather than booting it up in a host which has link.

IMHO best plugin format for Gestrument Pro would be AU though, but Audiobus works well :)

  • @j_liljedahl: a playbutton inthe Audiobus sidepanel would be great, so You don‘t have to switch to gestrument only to press start/stop. Any chance for this? Great App!

  • Website says September 2018 for Pro.

Gestrument Pro is IAA, so it works in Audiobus and any other IAA host. I see the point in running it stand-alone, but at the same time I think it's no big deal to load it into some lightweight Link-enabled host.

    Will do! Thanks.
  • @j_liljedahl gestrument Pro is very cool. Whereas v1 felt like a good idea as much as an instrument, Pro feels fully like an instrument.

    What's next for you?

    Thanks! We appreciate it.

    What's next for you?

More exciting things in the Gestrument team, AUM updates, AudioShare updates, AUv3 versions of my AUFX apps, and making music :)

  • New beta build with even more presets. The variable phase arpeggiator preset is just lovely. I have so many ideas now...

  • @j_liljedahl
Loving this, it really is a stand out creative app
It is an incredible performance app, but I do have a wish / request about playing difficulties.
I keep running into this wall:
Sometimes I want to trigger a set of notes twice, as in play the same chord twice, but the "dots" only allow to trigger a chord once, it makes playing / performing a chord progression odd ;)
Maybe a switch to allow this?
I don't understand the idea behind only being able to re trigger a chord after another has played.

Also - I wish the grid was a little more visible so that I can land in the right spot with my finger during performance.
Apart from the above - this app is perfection - a total dream app :/

  • The latest update brought an AB playbutton. Great! But here, now there is no way anymore to start GP, aside from the main AB playbutton. Playbutton inside GP, touching a cursor (with hold/loop enabled), playbutton in AB sidepanel, GP playbutton in AB don‘t do a thing. Am I the only one, though?, or do you guys have this happening, too?

  • Now tempo sync is solid I love this app!

I don't understand the idea behind only being able to re trigger a chord after another has played.

That is controlled by the "Legato probability" of the available rhythm generators. Put it at 0% to get notes at each pulse, put it at 100% to get notes only when the pitch or duration changes.

Also - I wish the grid was a little more visible so that I can land in the right spot with my finger during performance.

The grid is individual for each the instruments (up to 16), so there's no way to show all grids without having a visual mess :)

That's not how it's supposed to be, no. The play button inside GP should still work. I'll look into it!

  • @j_liljedahl Is there a way to solo a cursor? There are times I might want to tap about on the play area rather than drag, but the nearest other cursor is chosen instead. Thanks much.

@aaronpc If you tap on the instrument tabs to the left they hatch out to mute.

Thanks, but I was afraid that would be misunderstood. I'm wanting to solo the cursor, not the sound— meaning I only want the soloed cursor to jump to where I've touched on the play area.

I want to tap around the screen like in TC-11, in a way, rather than having to hold down the cursor all the time. Also, when I have 5 cursors bopping around all over, it's easy to select the wrong one and mess up a performance.

It's probably an edge case, and difficult to implement fluidly, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Yeah, we're planning to add a "lock" toggle per cursor. Especially useful when having automated cursors that you don't want to interrupt.

  • @j_liljedahl: thanks for looking into it. Of course, I also sent a message via testflight.
The newesr version from today (88) still behaves this way... . Cheers, t (VERY grrreat App!)
