Wow, I've been waiting for this since ages. Gonna try immediately! Thanks @White!

  • Sweeeeeet! I hope SFZ import works well.

Great update. I really like this app. Hopefully this cures the problem I was having sometimes with crashing during sample import from the Files app? I really had no complaints besides that. One of the more "pro-grade" sample instruments in iOS.

It is vastly improved in this respect.

@wim: for simple sfz, it seems to work well. But sfz has a lot of features that AudioLayer doesn’t.

Wow, what an update! Well done Mr Virsyn.
A little bug has been introduced after the last Testflight version: AL asks at every launch if I want to install the factory instruments although I've said "no" repeatedly. The last Testflight version didn't do this.
Edit: After the 4th start, the nagger went away 👍🏼

The current AL version is quite big (almost 300MB), are there some samples left in the ipa package accidentally?

    Other than that: Thank you!!!

  • Left 5 star review ❤️❤️❤️

Btw, it seems that samples set to trigger on release are velocity sensitive!

  • Wow!!!! Wow oh wow!!!! FANTASTIC NEWS!!!!!!!!!

Edit: The previous version did that too.
I see no facility to make the release level depend on the released sample volume or simply time, so the empty loop workaround still seems to be necessary for building realistic instruments.

@InfoCheck asked about importing sfz. On my iPad (which has cloud storage off for AudioLayer), I put a folder that contains both an sfz file AND a folder of samples for the sfz into AudioLayer’s folder On MY iPad. In Files app, I tap on the sfz file. That causes AudioLayer to open and import the sfz.

After the import, you can delete the folder you put in the AudioLayer folder as AudioLayer copies the samples to its internal storage.

The SFZ import alone will make a lot of guys happy. It will also help to avoid the troubles with incompatible EXS files.

    And finally there's a manual 😃

This doesn’t work for me as when I tap the sfz file in the files app, the AudioLayer app doesn’t open. Tapping on an exs file will successfully launch the AudioLayer app. When you import an sfz into AudioLayer, does it create a separate SFZ instrument directory the way it does for Demo, EXS, setlist, and VCSL instruments? I’m running iOS 13.3.1 on an iPad Air 3. Thank you for your help with this.

  • Great to see the new features :) But there’s a big bug for me, enough to reinstall the older version.... The AU version now doesn’t show a visual preview of the keys being hit via midi or keyboard. It works still in standalone for me.
This is really important for me when there’s 100s of samples Over different velocities etc.

Confusing because I’m on the beta and I’ve bug reported this many times, there must be different betas of AL as none of these new features have been on my TestFlight beta versions.

Is this happening for others as well?

  • Is MIDI CC automation in this update?

I don’t see the visual feedback in the AU either. I’d suggest a gentle reminder via email to @VirSyn that it doesn’t work and why it’s so critical. And realize that if few (or no others) write to him about it, he may choose to focus his time on things about which he has had more feedback or n a new app or new features in other apps.

If you are in Files app, and tap the action menu icon (that will bring up the share sheet), is Open in AudioLayer available? Choosing this also initiates import for me (I am on iOS 12.3.1)

Yes, I power-cycled the iPad. I deleted the app from the iPad and reinstalled it with the same results. I created an SFZ instrument directory. The problem is that my iPad doesn’t recognize the sfz file as something which will open up the AudioLayer app. Perhaps it’s because I already use sfz files in other apps installed on the iPad?

Do you get AudioLayer as an option when you try to share an sfz file in the Files app, because I don’t?

Are you using the iCloud files or Local Files option? I prefer Local Files and cannot find a way to import SFZ's with IOS 13 on a new iPhone. I have tried the SFZ and "samples" folders placed in /On My Iphone/AudioLayer/Import/* and in /iCloud/AudioLayer/Import/*

Hopefully there's a way that works or an update will be dropped to help address the problem.

I have eagerly been awaiting this capability.

At least the VCSL instruments downloaded so I have something to play with while the SFZ
Import issues are addressed or someone finds the right sequence of steps to import.

I’m using the local files option. On iOS 12.4.5 using the Files app I place the sfz file and sample folder in:

    On My iPad/AudioLayer/import/AltoSax.sfz
    On My iPad/AudioLayer/import/AltoSax

Within the AudioLayer standalone app itself I press the instrument name area and get the instrument selection window. I navigate until it says Instruments at the top.

I pressed the +Folder button to create a folder for the samples:
Instrument/SFZ/AltoSax. (I wanted to separate SFZ from EXS)

I return to the Files app and press on the AltoSax.sfz file which opens up AudioLayer with the import SFZ window.

Next I selected the folder where the samples will be stored so I navigated to AltoSax.

Select import and AudioLayer automatically loads in my samples giving the green text that shows you what it’s doing.

When AudioLayer is finished, the instrument can be played.

If you don’t create the folder for the samples within AudioLayer first before importing the sfz file, AudioLayer will not import the samples in. When you press in a region to add samples, AudioLayer will show you the path of the missing sample files.

On iOS 13, AudioLayer does not open when I press on an sfz file in the files app. I’ll try to export/import an sfz instrument I imported on iOS 12.4.5 onto an iOS 13 installation to see if that works.

  • I sent another email to fix the midi preview bug in the AU, please others report this so it can be fixed if you also miss it :) can’t understand why it slipped passed all the other people using it myself, to me it’s vital when building kits with multiple samples on different layers.
