No initial iOS 10 support though. The dev encountered some problems with the store on the old OS.
As far as I'm concerned about pricing, price levels are really ridiculously low. Software development, especially if it's QUALITY software development, is an extremely sought-after skill, where demand is about 10000% higher than supply, and it is at the same time probably the most complex skill in existence in today's society. In addition, society increasingly depends on software in every corner, so it's really strange prices are still so low. TOTALLY SELFLESS RANT OVER!
MMmm, very nice! Thanks a lot!
I know, right? We're no longer living in the Angry Birds era where apps are expected to be cheap toys. In my opinion, 2018 was a transitional year to the iPad becoming more and more of a "professional production environment" (not that it wasn't already, but now it seems like more and more people are catching on). 2019 will be a similar transitional year for the iPhone.
Once NS2 is released on the iPhone, that's when I'll purchase my XR with max capacity. (Gadget, Beathawk, Grand Finale, Brusfri, FAC plugs, and NS2 in my bloody pocket on a screen I can actually see, lol.)
Latest from Matt regarding iOS 10...
...otherwise known as two steps forwards and one step back.
Recently I've been testing NS2 on iOS 10 devices and everything works fine aside from the Store functionality, which seems to be a flaky mess. After 2 days spent on trying to fix it I've had little success, and I'm running out of ideas. This makes it an open-ended task which runs the risk of jeopardizing the launch date.
Therefore I've decided that the only option available right now is to raise the minimum iOS version for NS2 to iOS 11.
In practical terms, this means that NS2 will be compatible with iPad Air 1 (or newer) and will not be compatible with the iPad 4th gen (or older). The iPad Air 1 is 5 years old, so it still supports a good range of range of devices, just not as many as I'd have liked.
I'm sure this will be a disappointment to some as it is a disappointment to me, as I've put significant effort into supporting and optimizing for 32 bit devices. However, it's going to be far more disappointing if I can't launch due to this issue.
There may be a chance of fixing this in a future update and lowering the minimum requirement to iOS 10, but I can't make any promises at this stage as I still don't understand the exact nature of the problem apart from being able to safely say it's a bitch.
I'll continue to keep you informed of any further last minute changes like this, but (fingers crossed) I don't expect anything else like this to come up.
and a bit more news, plus an example of the spectral loop mode in operation. I like the sound of the piano too!
"I'm quite pleased with the spectral loop mode. I don't know if anything similar exists on iOS or desktop, but here's an example:
http://blipinteractive2.co.uk/downloads/ForumMedia/NS2/SpectralLoop.wav
... the first 5 notes are played as usual (using one of the pianos from the IAP packs). I then resampled that sequence using the mixdown and loaded it up in a second synth. The last 3 notes are played in the second synth with the spectral loop mode on (no other effects).
Basically it's like feeding something through an infinite reverb, sampling the tail and the making a perfect loop with no clicks. The frequency spectrum of the original sample remains, but it's smeared over time to make a constant seamless loop. It's also good for turning simple sounds into 'ensembles' and resampling cymbals etc."
Will all samples imported into the sampler of NS2 be saved with the project file and can the project file be saved directly to Dropbox?
Anyone know if sampler supports random and round robin? I didn't see those options in the screen shots linked above...

In NS1 you had the option to import samples into the project or not so your choice. It should be the same in NS2. Blip specifically said he is supporting Dropbox.
That piano patch sounds top notch, on par with Ravenscroft and the ones found in Module.
The spectral looping sounds perfect for Ambient and Soundscaping as well, something I've tried many times to make on iOS but haven't been entirely satisfied with. (Basically, crafting a drone based on a found sound.) Pair it with a couple of synth patches driven by Rozeta's Particles (I assume NS2 is compatible with Midi AUs), tempo automation and other automation, and I think it'll satisfy.
I think it's about expectations. Millions of people now expect to pay over $10 for a restaurant hamburger, hundreds of dollars to take their family to a sporting event. An app to make music on their phone or tablet? The App Store system created a market. A certain price range is now expected, and most customers don't really know or care what it takes to produce the product. If enough developers are willing to work for peanuts, that's all people are going to pay. There's also the expectation created by years of sophisticated desktop software running on more powerful and reliable systems, so many pros and prosumers aren't ready yet to invest as much on the iOS platform, even though what we can do on these devices would make musicians 20 years ago drool at the possibilities.
I wish you a nice rich fulfilling black week
Here in Norway Black Week is associated with satanist death metal week 🎸 😆
To be fair, that sounds much safer and more wholesome than Black Friday over here in the States (as well as a lot more fun!). I'd rather satanist death metal over the frenzied disregard for fellow human beings just to save $50 on an expensive-as-shit device or whatever else type of sales concocted on that day. You probably have read the multitude of US Black Friday horror stories regarding. In a way, I'm glad Cyber Monday was invented. If you want that discount, just buy it online. Bloody hell.
It’s har to find something I haven’t already grabbed & consumed
Since I’ll be deleting cubasis shortly, I decided to have another go at recording a track, and actually got something short finished. The process reminded me of the genius idea of parts/pattterns in NS1. Would have saved lots of copy/paste. Cubasis has come a long way since its first iteration, but it’s still not as intuitive (for me) as NS1. Not long now...
Nice feel. It has a Spyro Gyra feel to me. I'll be deleting Cubasis soon as well. No tears at all.
Good reading over at the NanoStudio Forum today, for those of you who can't stop themselves ... and you know who you are...
Yes. I do know...
@iansainsbury Nice little track!
cheers!
Matt has posted the complete demo tracks for NS2 on soundcloud - oh yeah...

"The NS2 Demo Projects (ie. the ones which come as standard with the app) have now been finalized, so with any further ado:"
Ho Li fook. 👊😁
Does sound fab that first track just done it for me. Definitely a iOS step up.
I saw the words release date 19th November and got all excited for a mo aha that’s the track date !
Might be a silly question but if there are no audio tracks until June 2019 how do you record the audio from your project in NS2?
Do you mean the final mix of your tune? If so, the app has an internal mixdown mechanism like NS1. Can't find where Matt talked about the details at the moment.
Like a stereo audio track for final mix? Do you perhaps know if this mixdown audio track can be edited?
Yes. Like NS1 but with more format options. So final stereo mix or individual track stems. Whole song or a fixed range/length (to export loops or the chorus or...). Just tried to find the details Matt posted again but coming up empty.
I don't but since there's no real limit on sample length, I imagine you could load the mixdown as a sample and edit there.
Sorry.. long thread... but does this have Ableton Link..
When is the release date.... ? Thanks..
And, what the deal with the names of these developers.. Matt. Matthew, Mathieu ..... BM3, SL, NS2?
