Can I ask: There were initial reports that this didn't work with Cubasis. Has that been resolved?

    @ka010

(I did read McDtracy's post above, but it made my head SWAM.)

Impressive feature update - really like it. The new layouts widen the possible scenarios 😀

I found some minor first-version-misbehaviours, which i directly send to the dev. (and removed the description from this post)

    Fantastic. Thanks.

With 3D Touch on my iPhone 6S this is gonna be fun. Turns the iPhone into a nice Bluetooth controller...

  • Works perfectly fine, always has tho. That said, if you run into any issues please do let me know.

    Here's all thats new:

    - Universal: KB-1 now supports all iPhones starting with the iPhone SE

    - Layouts: added Drum layout with up to 16 user mappable pads, velocity and roll

    - Layouts: added XY layout with up to 2 XY-pads per row, choose between CC control, Note- or Wheel-Mode

    - Layouts: added CC layout with up to 16 user mappable knobs for CC control

    - UI: Re-designed Keyboard Settings with a plethora of new options

    - UI: Improved UI contrast for better readability

    - UI: Tweaked key on/off appearance for better readability across all layouts

    - General: Added Polyphonic Note Repeat for most layouts

    - General: Added global tempo control

    - General: Added Chord Memory (records a triad and lets you play similar chords using a single key/finger)

    - General: Added Panic (All Notes Off) button

    - General: Added an option to set safe zones between keyboard rows

    - General: Wheels can now be enabled on all layouts

    - General: Added XY-Pad and a Strumming Control as alternative options to the Wheels

    - General: Controllers (Wheels, Pads, Strum) position can be set to left or right

    - General: Fixed an issue where manually unlatching keys could generate hanging notes when using MPE

    - MPE: Slide CC can now be set freely (by default cc74 is used for MPE slide)

    - MPE: Slide can now be set to send aftertouch instead of cc which is great when playing non MPE synths

    - MPE: a dedicated MIDI/MPE Section for setting midi output is now available in the settings screen when running the AUv3

    - MPE: Added an option to set a custom fixed Velocity value

    - Chord Layout: in latch mode, playing a new chord will now release the previous chord

    - Chord Layout: fixed an issue where manually unlatching a key would not work in some cases

    - Chord layout now has dedicated options for type of chords (triad, fifth, sixth, seventh)

    - Chord layout now has dedicated options for multiple rows (octaves, inversions)

    - Chord layout now supports the strumming control

    - Chord layout scale and root can now be changed from the main screen

    - Performance: optimized overall cpu and memory footprint

  • Thank you.

There's a comment in an App Store review that reiterates the falsehood that Cubasis is problematic. That must be really annoying for developers.

    Bought.

  • Thanks for the great update :)

  • Sweet! Awesome update :)

  • Brilliant update.

Has quickly become my most used app.

  • I get a crash in both BM3 and Cubasis when in scale mode and I try to change midi channel.

  • Awesome update - thanks :)

  • I'll wait for Doug's review. I'm really interested in the XY pad in note mode. @ka010 Can you set note repeat / gate settings in XY note mode? Is there an Arppregiator for the XY pad? I am a long time Kaossilator Pro user and the only XY pad works for controlling notes is first off you have scaling options (as to not hit the wrong notes in the blind) and that there are gating/note repeat options. Other wise everything sounds out of tune and notes just run into each other, which sounds like mush.

  • I’m having an issue and it might be a user error or not. When trying to record my performance in bm3 no midi notes show up in the sequencer. I got the midi all set up and can see bm3’s keys being pressed when playing kB-1 in chord mode but nothing shows up in bm3.. help, lol

Thats a problem with all AUv3 midi plugins in BM3. You can use 'em but not record them to the timeline. There's some kinda workaround using routeMidi app that you'll probably be able to find if you look over on their forum at intua.net.

Or, use the IAA / Standalone version and route the midi into BM3.

  • WAHT?!?!?!?! Shows how much I have messed with BM3. Cant record AUV3 into the time line? That SUCKS!!!!! I love BM3. So disappointed to read about this limitation.

  • @SMKArtist You just can't natively record midi AU results to the timeline. A new toolbox of midi AU plugs fixes the issue, though. Has a lot of other useful tricks as well, and works in most DAWs.

  • Best updated feature: Dead zone between rows...

Especial good in chord mode... Thanks Kai!

    Thanks for the shoutout!

@SMKArtist Here's a tutorial page for AU midi recording into DAWs which don't have this functionality: http://audioveek.com/route/

Edit: I'm told on BM3's discord channel that there's some crashes with KB-1 and BM3 currently anyway, so there might be issues there regardless of whether or not you use MIDI Route.

  • Thanks y’all!!

  • Thats fixed already. Minor bugfix update will be out shortly.

BM not being able to record MIDI is a known problem but I'm sure this will get fixed eventually.

Now, I'm not aware of any crashes other than the one outlined above, so if any of you do notice things like that please do report them, theres simply no way me or the beta team can find them all with the number of DAWs being out nowadays.

  • [ BUG ]

Changing Octaves per Row has no effect on the Drum Layout.

  • so does this have 3d touch functionality? can you assign any parameterany to pressure?

  • edited February 2019

Thanks, just fixed that one :)

The iPhone version does, yes. It'll send aftertouch either per channel (MPE) or on a single channel when not using MPE, it's up to the receiving synth what to do with this tho. So, just like with any other keyboard you don't assign anything in KB-1 but assign an aftertouch destination in the synth you're playing.

Edit: I should note that with the new update it's also possible to have the key slide send aftertouch instead of the slide cc# which is great when playing synths that don't support MPE but classic aftertouch

  • This update is great!!!

  • how does the chord mode work? i select a scale and type of chord to play, but when i press. chord it only plays a single note.

  • update. i tried it in stand alone it worked fine. might be an AU only bug.

  • Thats most likely a config thing. Sounds like you're playing a non MPE synth with MPE enabled.

When using the AUv3 there's an additional tab in the settings where you can set the MIDI mode and output channel, make sure to set the MIDI Mode to regular when playing non MPE instruments.

If it still wont work please let me know.

  • I’m very impressed, blown away even. I got to be honest, I was disappointed when I got this originally. Now its very comprehensive and designable. The only change/feature request I have is to have scale and root key selectable on the top bar when in scale mode, maybe designable banks where you could select 3 key/scale combos or just like octave + and - buttons.

it is a bit buggy, for example it has stopped talking to the synth a couple of times in Audiobus and also if you drag from the XY into the keys it keeps going and also stops working.
