Curious what the “press” button in kB-1 is for?

    Pressure aka Aftertouch.
It appears to be Polyphonic Aftertouch (individual values sent per key), not Channel Aftertouch (1 value sent for all keys).
Only shows up on my iPhone 6s Plus, not my iPad.

Would make for quite the closing number ;)

Glad @StudioES was able to be more helpful though. I really dig this app, just got inspired to fire it up in AUM right now and play around.

Anybody have fun tricks or workflow tips they would like to share?

So far just used it to play chord progressions and melodies on a synth. All while loaded in AUM.
I know there is more this thing can do.

I only get the "press" button when using as an AUv3 on iPad. It's not there in standalone mode on iPad.

And, I can't hear any difference whether it's activated or not. Maybe it has to be a synth that supports it?

It's cool to use in standalone mode with your keyboard of choice, a chord layout, add another panel of cc knobs, and a final panel of x/y controllers.

As with any modulator, it will only have an effect if the receiving instrument uses that information.

Ah, you're right - just fired up apeMatrix on the iPad & see the 'PRESS' icon there, but the circles don't get larger if I press harder on the iPad's screen.

On the iPhone, in apeMatrix using KB-1>SynthMaster One with Aftertouch controlling Filter Drive. It works! And it's polyphonic aftertouch too. Very nice.

The Haptic Touch/3D Touch may only be availble on iPhones though: https://www.macrumors.com/guide/haptic-touch-vs-3d-touch-whats-the-difference/

Ah! So it may ONLY be for 3D/haptic touch then? Can you hear what it's doing why you're using it on the iPhone? My iPhone is only an SE with no 3D touch, but I'm getting a refurb 7 plus with 3D touch soon.

Yes, I can hear what it's doing, & it's doing it well! I had no idea 3D Touch could be used this way for additional expression. But it's worth mentioning that there's no min/max or offset settings - actually there are no other settings in KB-1 other than enabling it (with the 'PRESS' button).

3D Touch has variable pressure sensitivity, unlike Haptic Touch. I read somewhere that only a small percentage of owners knew about 3D Touch, so Apple saved lots of money by removing the required hardware for 3D Touch, & implemented Haptic Touch which only relies on software. And that years ago 3D Touch was an offshoot of the $1 billion Steve Jobs & Apple spent perfecting the haptic-feedback trackpad on Macbooks.

If you're in the US, Walmart still has the iPhone 6s Plus for $149 & iPhone 6s for $99.

I'm going to test it over Bluetooth, controlling my iPad. Also worth mentioning is Velocity Keyboard by Blue Mango, which apparently reads finger surface-area for variable sensitivity, but I don't have it yet.

Yes, I have Velocity Keyboard too and like it. I like it's kind of retro-alien interface too. ;)

Already ordered the 7plus. My SE still works fine but the battery is giving out and 64GB is too restrictive if you want to load it with apps AND use it for stills and 4k video. It's basically the same as a 6s so it wouldn't have been any upgrade other than a bigger screen. I went for the 7plus because I want to play with the double camera stuff they introduced with that one.

Yep, got confirmation from the dev Kai. It’s for 3D Touch. He said it shouldn’t be showing on the iPad. Sounds cool. Can’t wait to try!

Quite effective on the non -classic keys pads with an Apple Pencil—Sends after touch.
EDIT: using iPad Pro, 3rd gen.

Sorry I must be stupid BUT I think I missed the option that I was mostly interested as to match a Note keybord with a chord keyboard so that the note keyb plays according tho the chord one.. :) Mostly the root note

Is setting CC values for xypads working for anyone? It's not letting me save anything besides the default cc values: 12, 13, 14, 15.

@ka010 Can you take a look?

I am still having problems with this. You can’t save custom mappings. You can change parameters like name and cc#, but it saves them in the default_xy mapping. Having two instances, and changing parameters in 1, weirdly changes the parameters equally in the other one. So can’t have 2 instances of X/Y pad?
Saving as a preset doesn’t save the mapping, rather always has default_xy.

Also, you can export the mapping, but you can’t import it back in?

  • Apologies if this has already been answered, but will this keyboard allow you to store your own chords voiced whatever way you want, as in ChordPolyPad or the in-house Cubasis keyboard? I'm not talking about chord symbols (as per ChordBud).

    Nope. Sorry.

  • Just got KB-1 today. Most excellent.
One thing I cannot figure out yet. In standalone I can save sessions with the entire setup of multiple keyboards. However I have failed to do this in the AUv3 in Audiobus.
    All help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

The AUv3 version is just one keyboard per instance, unfortunately.

  • Is there a way to have harmonic minor as a scale, or add custom scales? I’ve looked on the webpage linked from the app but can’t see any detail on that...

presets -> scale and with + - you can change the scale to aeolian/min ?

I think that’s just standard minor, harmonic minor has a sharpened seventh, it’s something I’ve been playing with lately to change my musical ear a bit...

misread, so sorry! ive tried to save+edit presets but no success /:

  • Cheers @cazel no worries and thanks for trying! I’ll probably get in touch with the dev and see what they say :) 👍

  • If you have a drum map, is there any way to shift the octave being sent the way that you can with the keyboard layouts?

I did try through a dm on Twitter but he didn’t reply, it could just have been because he was trying to get agonizer out of the door though. I’ve not used it much since either, might try him again...
