I disagree that Zeeon and Moog apps are "too heavy for what they do" - what they do is analog emulation, which requires a lot of processing power to get right.

Agree. I often wonder just how much some users on here need to do at once to prefer inferior quality/multi-instance use over a better-sounding solution. But to each their own.

I think it is kind of unfair to imply that people that don't like the Moog apps or Zeeon (all of which I love fwiw) have a preference for inferior quality.

People have different tastes on what sounds good to them. Having a different preference doesn't make them lovers of the inferior.

SM1 is a versatile synth that can also be used as an audio processor (by putting it in an AU effect slot)

It offers both wavetable and traditional style oscillators, rich modulation options and is surprisingly CPU efficient. Many people (clearly not all ) think that is a great-sounding synth. It is capable of a quite broad range of sounds.

I personally don't use it as much as my Moogs and my favorite Korgs (I don't think all of the Korg synths are non-descript), but that may be because I don't know SM1 well enough. There is a lot there.

I'm just giving my opinion, and I'm not implying anyone has 'inferior taste' for choosing otherwise . It's just that I have seen several instances on here of people who have explicitly expressed their preference for lighter CPU weight synths over the Moogs, Zeeons, DRCs, etc. Probably because they are playing live or recording multiple tracks at once, or some other use reason that's different from mine.

I thought you offered honest critique about the app. Good counter-balance.
    Thanks for the input.

No prob. Sometimes I've been told I get too negative on here. I am hyper-critical I admit, but I feel there's a place for that on here since I, too, was once in the habit of buying everything that came out only to realize after a couple years of doing so that it's not the most productive way to go about things.

That’ll be me then - I like to load up loads of synths and fx, get them all going and record the jam live. Since my Air2 can’t cope with more than two Moogs or Zeeons without having a hissy fit, lightweight AU’s do the business.

Saying that I’m going to be doing less jamming and more overdubbing in future, so the big chaps will be making an appearance.

I kind of start out assuming that I’ll have to print to “tape”as I go. But then when I started with synths patch saving involved pencil and paper and flow charts, a four-track reel-to-reel, and a sequencer was a thing with 16 knobs. So, everything we can do seems like a luxury. I kind of miss those days in a way because it forced when to make decisions and move on. I am easily distracted by possibility.

  • Sm1 is pretty good. I like it for massive type stuff, all around good sounding synth, easy midi learn etc. On my first version ipad pro i tend to stick a ton off stuff into aum, including at least one model15 per session plus a lot of fx etc and performance is pretty great. One important tip is to map stuff with a controller so i don’t open the synth windows when recording/jamming. Cuts out on glitches.

Oh yeah, me too. I started with a synth, guitar, Wem Copycat and two cassette recorders - the ultimate in lo-fi recording! A few years later I upgraded to a 4 track, until many years later the luxury of a desktop pc.

I think that’s why I record everything live as jams, I can never trust MIDI tracks - and funnily enough when I did a few weeks ago in Reason, a couple of my saved songs had missing tracks and instruments when reopened!

Next year will be Auria time, though I’ll still probably stick to recording everything as audio.

    They are samples @kobamoto
    Download is just over 400mb

  • Touchable Pro for Windows seems to be full price again. That was a bit quick, wonder if if that’s a mistake or if the sale price will be reinstated for longer.

Yes, back to full price for iOS as well. Must be a mistake since it still says in the description the sale is supposed to be until New Year’s Eve.
