Im looking at these for the iphone layouts since they are compact. On the ipad you will be able to switch skins.
I like these overall. Photon text might look better a bit more bold. And, I’m not sure I like the background abstract design elements. They kind of confuse the readability and they look like sperm and/or like someone blew there load on it and didn’t have one of Jakob’s handy wipe cloths to clean up after themselves. ;)
i do like the idea of something subtle and abstract to visually break up the interface monotony a bit.
I notice 8 Pads in the new UI design.
Are we getting 8 Pads anytime soon?
Insightful comments , though I didn’t get a “jizz” vibe at all from the graphics, as spermatozoa tend to move in a wiggly manner rather than a straight line.
That said, I’m very happy with the app, happy enough that I just might blow my load (but will catch all resulting fluids in a paper towel).
Was just clowning around some ;) but I do think the ghosted background graphics distract a bit. I’d choose a different abstract design or pull back on the ones currently used so that they don’t compete as much with the core visual control info.
Any plan to make the midi editable via a piano roll?
Yes, as part of the new Looper I want to expand this to 8 pads
Yes. I've already written one (4 years ago infact with the first midi recorder I created) so need to convert it to AUv3 & modernise it.
Looking to do this after next update & Looper enhancements (as you can already export to NS2 say & use that editor & import back again)
It will most likely be an IAP though.
@skiphunt You're quite right - the background gfx are not background enough so compete with the actual controls. Easy to fix though :)
@midiSequencer Like the plan to concentrate on the looper but what about state saving? In the works?
yes, thats part of my bug fix as it currently just state saves the au parameters. All bugs take priority :)
I've just reworked the internals to allow selection of multi-track & correction of lengths. This will probably go out as update 1.
Excellent, thx.
Excellent, yeah liking the new UI direction, but agree that the pattern is a bit much. Easy to over egg the pudding when in design mode though :) Maybe worth thinking about a larger view, alternate fullscreen mode where the midi display appears below the pads so you can select pad and see the midi easily, switching views when you resize the gui.
Good to see that an editor is in the pipeline as well....!
Yep, I can move these panels around to take advantage of full screen. For example I also want a fullscreen midi window - only then I can offer editing on notes/events.
I've already toned down the background buffers & lines so they are much fainter :) But even this gui will probably see those removed entirely as I add more controls.
Any news on the synch issues (both recording and playback)? Saw some comment about loop length, but that would hardly explain all the issues (like the recording issues I reported earlier)..have you been able to track it down?
Its close to the top of my list to do - I'm going to look at what is happening between loop end (reaching the end of the midi length) and loop start - e.g. is it waiting for a sync or not to start the next loop
Not sure what you refer to. In the case I reported the’s no looping going on in Photon. I just recorded a drumbeat from Rozeta and it just drifted, more and more for every bar..That drifting was visible on the screen, did not even need to play it back..
ah, sorry you mean the 48k issue. I know what to fix (its an Audiokit issue) but don't have a 2018 iPad to test with.
It explains the stretching you see and the perfect timing I see.
But I think I can recreate this with idam(connecting an iPad to a mbp and recording) - it forces to 48k rather than 44.1k
Yes, I’ll happily (beta-)test it if needed, just PM me...Glad you found the reason.. this bug pretty much makes Photon unusable for me..
Ok IDAM is the way to go - I've replicated this using Rozeta baseline & QuickTime recording. (48k is stretching, 44.1k is perfect) - so can fix it now. :)
fixed the 48k issue in Audiokit - it records Rozeta bass on the beat now - nice n regular like 44.1k
@NoonienS will send you the beta to test tomorrow to confirm
Just a reminder, I have a sync problem on an iPad Air 2. Even perfectly timed loops sometimes end up randomly skipping a bar before looping. This seems to happen more often when there is more than one pad loaded, but it can happen with only one. Mine may be unrelated to the other issue, but is definitely not 2018 iPad related.
I am having similar issues. If I change the loop playback to ‘Start Now’ it seems to stop the random skipping. You don’t get synchronized start though.
What I have been trying to do when possible, is set it to start synced to the bar, and after starting playback, switch it to start now for smooth(er) playback. Suckypain, though.
I am optimistic that an update will be out really soon to fix this issue, though.
(I use an Air2 as well, BTW).
Cool workaround @CracklePot. I’ll give that a try.
@midiSequencer I should also note that Start on Beat can have the pause issue as well. The pause is just shorter is all.
@wim & @CracklePot thx for the info. I'm about to look at the sync issue.
I have an air 2
@midiSequencer files section you were mentioning drag and drop
Does this work for either a press button to load or drag and drop?
@midiSequencer
Sorry wrong one in previous post
added expand buttons for the pads and the step sequencer as well as discussed loop section
Removed spermatoza replaced with wave.
Absolutely gorgeous!
Now it looks like a uterus!
jus playin.
I think it looks quite fab.
