nice!
Feel free to lift any ideas.
Cropped better
thx for that - I'm liking the style - its more compact & easier to draw (e.g. resize).
Yes, the style is nice, but what about the groove option?
Looks great! And recording would always operate on the selected Pad, I assume ?
Awesome!!!!
Man this forum rocks!!!
@audiblevideo
Is there a lower section that is not showing?
I am wondering if that is where the Edit controls may go.
Pad playback options too.
Silly question maybe, but which is the selected pad?
Looks like pads 1 and 8 are both selected. That would be cool to be able to select multiple pads, but not sure how that would affect how the controls change depending on which pad is selected.
i was thinking of having a button to link all - this would modify the controls for all pads, but being able to multi select first would be better (eg pads 1+2 transpose whilst pads 3+4 dont).
i did this with Quantum to good effect.
I’m using it with AB3 and AUM and I really can’t wait till all loops sync start playback with the host. Perhaps a sync with host transport option? What do I know? Just love it!
I am having some trouble with the loop start settings. If I change it to start at the bar or start at the beat, the loop playback drops out pretty regularly, especially if you change the tempo division. If I set it to start now, it does loop playback fine.
I can set it to start at the bar and get synced start of the pad. Then once it starts, I can quickly change it to start now, and the loop plays back correctly. But it is hard to do at 2x tempo.
I am guessing that the tempo drifts slightly, and when the loop point comes around it is a little late sometimes, and this causes the pad to wait a cycle to re-sync at the bar division or beat division. When the pad is set to start now, it is not trying to sync every bar or beat division, and so plays continuously.
Like it.
What would multi-select mean for real time recording? Would the same incoming stream be recorded on all selected Pads, or would there have to be a selector for each Pad to select the channel for incoming Midi ? Recording should start in synch for all selected channels, I suppose?
Step recording on more than one Pad at a time is harder to see a case for..
Good work @audiblevideo
Yes, this forum does indeed rock (and roll ... and polka, etc). Where else do you get this level of dev involvement and willingness to incorporate the Great Unwashed’s suggestions?
Updated
Missing a few interface elements, like apply buttons and the groove section but youse guys get the idea
@audiblevideo looking good. Sorry haven't replied - this forum & iphones don't work well
Have a look at the manual block diagram to be sure you capture all the functionality? You can work with something bigger - after all this is version 1 so don't want to be forever moving things to make space.
Things missing & my comments for example are:
record progress bar (perhaps a circular one around the rec button?)
song pointer on step record - this is where the pointer is most useful
the buffer display needs to be bigger - even with my one its hard to read classical midi files, but perhaps a smaller one for step is ok?
I'm going to detach the file list (make it roll out from the right). It will have drag n drop ability
I like the idea of 8 pads represented by your buttons (showing play & progress & edging for selection).
No need for arrows on the Load button - lets remove all data flow
Not sure why you have MODE label above the Rec button - mode applies to the text below it
I think some people like the current display, so will offer this as a 'compact mode' display - you can then choose
I'm working through the couple of bugs at the moment (finally fixed the copy pad to internal), after that are the main enhancements, so can start this rework of the UI soon.
no record is to one pad only - as you say not much sense recording to multiple pads, besides I want record to be fast and transparent without cpu overhead - otherwise it could spoil your recording, so better to copy/paste after record/audition
that's the idea - capture your sessions - edit later
It currently uses the host transport (its passed in the render) and I'm detecting bar/beat changes but I think its a bug is causing some issues - its on my list.
I needed to cater for transport not running too & different hosts not sending all the info I need.
I like it so far.
Maybe when the user resizes the display to a bigger view then the buffer/midi view can be down below the screen in a bigger size to fill the space? I quite like the idea of being able to select the pad and see the midi view at the same time so you can switch easily. I think it's a good idea to make use of the bigger AU views as much as possible. Audiobus for example prefers the fullscreen view to the letterbox ones anyway, plus they are much more useable on larger ipads then the letterbox ones. :)
I need to revisit the sync - Its not quite working (was when I first tested it!). One problem I found was that loops weren't really integer beat length, so I'm improving by giving options to round them up on load.
Tempo div always restarts the pad - I want to fix that so it can work on the fly.
Cool, I think you have just found yourself an UI designer, @midiSequencer :)
Most definitely! Nice design work at a price you can't refuse.
funny - its really difficult(for me) to design something modern - I keep wanting to 3d the controls and over engineer/photoshop it ;)
I'm keeping the current design though, this will be an alternative compact ui - but you can switch at the touch of a button
you, my friend, are awesome. And @midiSequencer , cheers for implementing this optional design. Love the app, but I have to admit the UI sort of throws my eyes all over the place (especially the arrows). Simpler GUI will really help this powerful little plugin!
anyhow, awesome work all around. ☺️
@audiblevideo I really like the design, looks pleasing
I have a few remarks
In general all UI elements should use a consistent layout and color, this should differ for the various types of UI element:
Emphasising the important main record button with the circle and red background is good to distingiush it from the other UI elements.
@midiSequencer @j_liljedahl and everybody else for the kindness and feedback.
The never read up on any UI guidelines and to be honest this was clearly done off the seat of my pants.
If you’re truly interested in offering this as a alternative I’ll take it to the next level. I was making this in Adobe Comp on my iPad to see what could do and sort out in my head the flow of @midiSequencer Photon app. It’s been slow going mostly due to the limitations off that app.
@midiSequencer DM me if you want to give additional ideas and keep it available for the public. I just need one place to read what needs to be adjusted.
Could you please mock-up what you’re intending the midi list behavior to be?
everyone cool with green and gray? If not what color? ;P
